Fusion 360: Master 3D Splines

This lesson teaches how to toggle 3D sketch settings in Fusion 360 and use the Move feature to manipulate 3D splines. Learners will enable 3D sketching, create a point and move it in the Z direction, then draw a spline connecting the point to create a 3D curve, adding tangent constraints. The goal is to learn how to toggle 3D sketch settings and use the Move tool to manipulate 3D spline handles.

Fusion 360 Mastery

Lesson: 3D splines
In this lesson, you will toggle 3D sketch settings and use the move feature.

Learning Objectives:
 Toggle 3D sketch settings.
 Use the Move feature.

Step 1: Create a 3D spline

1. Upload the file 3D Splines.f3d and
navigate to Preferences.

2. In the Design section select

“Allow 3D sketching of lines
and splines”.

3. Edit Sketch1 and select 3D

Sketch from the sketch
palette.

4. Select Sketch>Point and

create a point at 100mm
on the X axis.

5. Select
Modify>Move/Copy and
move the sketch point
125mm in the +Z
direction.

6. Select Sketch>Spline and

create a Spline
connecting the two lines
as shown with the sketch
point as a midpoint on the
spline.

7. Add a Tangent constraint

with the spline and each
straight line.

Note: You can use Move/Copy to

manipulate the spline handles.

8. Stop Sketch and save the

file.
