1. How do you determine if the product is sustainable?

To determine whether a product is sustainable, three factors must be considered. First off if it
does not exhaust or deplete natural, nonrenewable resources. In other words, products that are
renewable or will not deplete over time and can be replenished. Secondly, a product is sustainable
if it is harmless to the environment. This means that the overall manufacturing of the requires the
least amount of energy, produces less waste, and properly disposes it. Lastly, a product is
sustainable if it is made in a Socially Responsible way. In which businesses are concerned with
the health, wellbeing, and success of their workers and their community.

2. Personally, if you are buying a product or goods, will you consider that the product is
sustainable?
Yes, I personally have the desire to help the environment so even in my own little ways I make
sure I can help to keep it clean and green. So, when I buy products, I always look at their
packaging to see if it indicates that they are made from recyclable materials or they are
biodegradable. Also, when I found out that a business supports a certain community especially in
rural areas and supports their livelihood or the specialties of that community, that product will
immediately catch my interest, I think I will remember it for a long time, and make sure that I can
buy it next time.

3. When patronizing a business, is it important for you that the business is sustainable?
Yes, a business that practices sustainability always has a great impression and impact on me. That is why,
it also makes me want to support and patronize the business. As I have said I am interested in
products that are eco-friendly, especially with their packaging. But businesses that are ethically
and socially responsible also appeal to me better. I realized that as I grew older, I started to put
emphasis on the importance of health and wellness, as well I become more concerned on how
climate change keeps getting worse. That is why when I see socially and sustainably responsible
businesses, I try my best to patronize them because I know that it is a win-win situation between
us. As they make profit because of people patronizing them, they also help in reducing energy use
and pollution, and protecting valuable ecosystems which in turn are also beneficial to their
consumers in living sustainably.

4. There are five biggest supply chain issues. Please select one and give resolution or
recommendation to the issue.
Businesses strive to achieve a sustainable supply chain, however one of the issues that
challenges them to realize this is the high Transportation Cost. Several costs such as fuel,
vehicles, and transportation-related logistics comprise it. Even more so, these costs will always
face inflationary as well as competitive pressures.
In a blog spot written in ACSM, they listed several steps to help reduce transportation
costs. This includes using a route planner which ensures the driver an accurate and well-
optimized route. This is a tool that automates the route-planning process, factoring in traffic,
weather conditions, sunrise/sunset times, one-ways, avoidance zones, weight and load capacity,
and more. In this way, drivers will not spend more time on the road stuck in traffic, traveling
longer-than-necessary distances, and will not increase fuel usage and expenses. Ensuring regular
vehicle maintenance helps the business avoid breakdown costs and maintain their vehicles in top
condition. An effective program keeps track of total distance traveled, number of stops, and
quantity of gasoline used, as well as frequent vehicle inspections (3) Lastly, considering
warehousing services can also drastically reduce transportation cost, especially if the business is
shipping a lot of goods in a long-distance area. They can store their products closer to their
customers.
5. How will you assist business organizations in practicing product stewardship?
In the module, Product stewardship is referred to as the act of minimizing a product's and
its packaging's health, safety, environmental, and social impacts across all lifecycle stages while
also maximizing economic benefits. As a normal consumer, I can help assist business
organizations in carrying out product stewardship by using practical ways such as staying
informed. Companies play a vital role in product stewardship, but their efforts are meaningless
unless educated customers support them. That is why, as consumers, we must also be aware of
the current environmental problems and the reasons behind them. Another act that may sound
cliché but plays a huge role in product stewardship is Recycling. When we turn something old
into something new, we help the environment in a variety of ways. Natural resources and
materials are not will not be wasted. Paper, batteries, plastics, and glass are the most common
recyclables. Another thing is when we are buying products, like what I stated in the previous
questions, it is important to check the label or the packaging of that product and keeping an eye
on the terms that may have environmental impact such as those with lead and mercury content, or
other chemicals that can harm the environment. With this, we will be informed on the businesses
that are not sustainable and we can stop patronizing their products so that manufacturing of these
may reduce which in turn will also help in reducing environmental problems.
