For better or for worse, football is a game of money.

There are endless questionable amount

of money being poured on a daily basis, and that means the market for the games most
talented players, is still spiraling out of control. While it was just a few years ago that
million-dollar transfer fees were breaking records, clubs can now command nine-
figure transfer fees for their most valuable stock, meaning players are worth more
and more with time. Before getti ng into our top 10, it must be said that these values are
constantly updated by transfermarkt’s database and may change from the time you are
watching this, with that being said, lets introduce the top 10 most expensive players in
the world.

Number 10: Joao Felix – 100 million euros

The Portuguese star, who recently turned 21 years old, starts off our top 10. Atletico’s Young
forward, who joined Atlético de Madrid in 2019 with a fee of 127 million euros, is starting to
take off and show what he is truly capable of with the arrival of Luis Suárez to the capital,
pushing his game to a whole new level. In 27 games this season so far, he has scored 9 goals
and assisted 5, giving astonishing performances all round.

Number 9: Raheem Sterling – 110 million euros

Manchester City and England’s winger, Raheem Sterling stepped up his game with Pep
Guardiola’s arrival at the Emirates, lifting the 26-year old’s value up to 160 million euros in
December 2019. The ex liverpool player has scored 13 goals and assisted 10 in all competitions
this season so far, having a huge impact in the Citizens success since he first arrived.

Number 8: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 110 million euros

Young Liverpool star and starting right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, has done nothing but
shine since his debut in 2016 against Tottenham, when he was only 18 years old. Since then his
team has achieved the Premier League, Champions League, Club World cup and UEFA
Supercup with him taking a crucial part in Liverpool’s rise to success. There is no surprise then,
that his value has risen as far as 110 million euros becoming the world’s most expensive
fullback as things stand.

Number 7: Erling Haaland – 110 million euros

At just 20 years old, Erling Haaland’s records and statistics are out of this world. It was no
surprise when Borussia Dortmund snapped him up from Salzburg for a small fee of 20 million
euros. The Norwegian wonderkid only needed 7 games to score his first 10 Champions League
goals, and he is averaging a league goal once every 75 minutes, which is a better ratio than any
other player in Bundesliga history to have scored 10 goals or more. This season, Borussia
Dortmund’s center forward has reached a goal tally of 27 in just 25 games, as well as assisting
7 goals. There is no doubt that Haaland will fulfill his potential and become one of the best
players in the world in no time if he keeps performing like this.
Number 6: Kevin de Bruyne - 120 million euros

Kevin de Bruyne is up next as the current 6 th most expensive player in the world. After Chelsea
got rid of him by selling him to Wolfsburg for just 22 million euros, the Belgian did nothing but
improve, catching Manchester City’s eye who one season later, signed him for 76 million
euros, still not even close to his current market value. His return to the Premier League has
had him score 39 and assist 75 goals in his 171 games as a Manchester City player. With these
stats, there is no surprise then that he has been nominated to the Ballon d’Or 4 seasons out of
6 in his new club, and was named World’s best man Playmaker in 2020, an award previously
awarded to legends such as Zinedine Zidane, Kaká, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Toni Kroos and Luka
Modric.

players in the world:

Number 5: Harry Kane – 120 million euros

After leading Tottenham to their first ever Champions League Final in 2019, England’s Captain
has kept on bagging in goals for both Tottenham and England, having him take his goal count
to 18 and giving 14 assists in the 31 games he has played this season so far. With these kinds of
stats, it seems almost impossible that a player of his caliber has never won any official
trophies. And with huge teams such as PSG and Real Madrid recently showing interest in him;
might it be time for a change?

Number 4: Mohamed Salah – 120 million euros

As the most recognizable Arab footballer ever, Mohamed Salah has been a revelation since
moving from Roma to the Premier League in 2017. In this same year, he was named the
‘African Footballer of the Year’ after scoring a ton of goals for Liverpool. That year he was
awarded Premier League Player of the Year and Golden Boot winner finished the campaign
with a surprising 32 league goals for the Reds. As if that was it, the next 2 years he reached
both Champions League finals and conquered the title on their second attempt against Harry
Kane’s Tottenham. The “Egyptian King” or “Egyptian Messi”, as others call him, shares market
value with both England’s captain and our next player in this top 10.

Number 3: Sadio Mané – 120 million euros

On to the top 3, we have none other than Sadio Mané, another Liverpool player, and it is no
surprise given the success Jurgen Klopp’s side has achieved during the last few years, lifting
Liverpool’s first Premier League title since 1990. The Senegalese has been irreplaceable for
Klopp in the left wing and was recently awarded African Player of the year award 2020, beating
his teammate Mohamed Salah. Mané has scored 7 and assisted 4 goals in 22 games this
season, attracting interest from other huge teams such as PSG, and Zinedine Zidane’s Real
Madrid. The Frenchman has admitted many times he is a huge fan of the elite Liverpool
winger.

Number 2: Neymar Jr – 128 million euros

On to number two, we find none other than Neymar Jr, the player with the highest transfer fee
ever, with a whopping 222 million euros paid to Barcelona from PSG. Although he was meant
to be the successor and future Ballon D’Or winner when he first arrived, nobody expected
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s dominance to last so long, owning modern football’s
individual awards for the last 15 years. Neymar landed in Europe at just 21 years of age after
shinning in Brazilian football since his first debut when he was just 17. Since then, his market
value did nothing but increase massively up to 150 million euros. However, the constant
injuries have had him see his value decreased down to 128 million euros. Nevertheless, after 8
years since his arrival, he is still performing at the highest level, hoping to finally help PSG
reach its most ambitious objective; win the Champions League.

Number 1: Kylian Mbappé – 180 million euros.

If there was any doubt, at the first spot as the most expensive player in the world, we have
Kylian Mbappé with a market value of 180 million euros, the same price PSG paid Monaco in
order to take possession of the player. His recent performances such as his hattrick against
Barcelona as they won 1-4 and his goalscoring capabilities at such a young age have certainly
had a huge impact in his market value, which reached 200 million last year. The young
Frenchman has scored 111 and assisted 59 in just 154 games at PSG, averaging 1.1 goal
contributions per game. There is no doubt that PSG already dominating French football, is one
of Europe’s powerhouses and is a clear contented to the Champions League title. In addition to
this, if the rumors of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos joining on a free transfer this summer are
true, we might be looking at one of the strongest football teams history has ever seen.

For the likes of players such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, their age has caused their
market value to drop down to 80 and 60 million euros respectively although we don’t doubt
their abilities as they are demonstrating they are still the best players around.
