Parts of An Essay
Parts/Components of an Essay
An essay is a piece of writing that is written to provide information about a certain topic or
simply to convince the reader. In every effective essay writing, there are three major parts:
introduction, body, and essay conclusion.
 The introduction. This is where the subject or topic is introduced. The big picture,
points, and ideas are briefly written here.
 The body. All the main ideas, topics, and subject are discussed here in details. This
also includes evidence or information that support the essay.
 The conclusion. The last part of an essay and usually summarizes the overall topic or
ideas of an essay.
How to Write the Introduction Essay?
The introduction is the door to the whole essay outline. It must be convincing enough to get
the attention of the readers. The following are the guidelines for writing the introduction of the
essay.
 It must contain an attention-getter sentence or statement.
 The introduction must sound interesting to capture the attention of the reader.
 You can quote a statement about a topic or something related to the whole point of
your essay.
 The intro must move from general to specific.
 At the end, there must be a thesis statement that gives an insight to the author’s
evidence.
What Does the Body of an Essay Contain?
The body is the longest part of the essay and commonly highlights all the topics and ideas. The
body must include the following:
 The evidence and supporting details of the expository essay in addition to the author’s
ideas.
 A topic or sentences that link the discussion back to the thesis statement.
 The logical ordering of the ideas. The chronological of time, ideas, and evidence.
 A set of transition statements or sentences to create a good flow of the essay.
 Sufficient examples, evidence, data, and information that must be relevant to the
particular topic of the essay.
The Conclusion of the Essay
The conclusion is the last part of the essay, and should:
 Emphasize on the major takeaways of the essay.
 Wrap up and summarize the essay, as well as the arguments, ideas, and points.
 Restate the main arguments in a simplified and clear manner that must be understood
by the reader.
 Guarantee that the reader is left with something to think about, especially the main
point of your essay.
The Elements of an Essay
 Thesis statement. It is the main proposition of an essay. The thesis statement must be
arguable that differentiates it from a fact and must be in a persuasive writing style.
 Problem or question. The problem statements or the important issue of the essay that
must be defined and described in the essay.
 Motive. The reason for writing the essay.
 Evidence. The facts and data or information that supports the whole essay and prove
the main point of the essay.

statement that provides the reader how the evidence supports, develops, or explained
the essay’s thesis statement.
 Structure. The work that the writer does to organize the idea, the series of sub-topics
and sections through which it is explained and developed.

I. Giving Assignment

1. What factors did you consider in writing your lesson/learning plan?

The factors I have considered in writing my lesson plan are the ability levels
of the students, their backgrounds, attention spans, as well as their level of
interests.

2. What difficulties did you meet in writing your lesson/learning plan?

The difficulties I’ve encountered is writing the objectives since it is the

backbone of the lesson plan before we execute the lesson. It was very challenging to
write an objective that was SMART. Another is the strategy in motivation part
because I do not know if it will fit all dimensions of my lesson plan. Motivation is
really important to stimulate and facilitate the learning activity to achieve our
desirable goals.

3. What feedback was/were given by your Resource Teacher in your first

draft/succeeding lesson/ learning plan?

According to my Resource Teacher, I should have changed some of my

objectives that is why I aligned it in Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy. My resource
teacher also suggested to have initial activity before discussion aside from the
motivation part of the lesson.

4. What were the best features/areas for improvement of your lesson/learning

plans?

The best area for improvement of my lesson plan was the objectives because I was
able to align it across all dimensions of my lesson plan. I was able to incorporate the
the top three levels in Bloom’s Taxonomy for higher order thinking skills. It also
clarifies the transition of the topic to performance tasks to achieve coherence and
smooth flow of discussion.

Notice
Analyze the various components of your lesson plans by answering the given
matrix. Take note that you must have provisions to do lesson on a face-to-face,
modular or through online learning.

Questions Answers

1. How did you arouse students’ interest? What motivational techniques did you indicate in
your plan?
I ask question about how they feel when they eat hamburger. I used hamburger as example
because there is what we called hamburger method in writing essay. Hamburger is popular to all
students and most of them love to eat this. Therefore, there is a chance that they can easily
remember the parts of an essay and how to write it. I also set up point system to encourage
classroom participation during discussion and activity.

2. How did you respond to the

diverse types of learners?

2.1 gender, needs, strengths,

interests and experience
2.2 linguistic, cultural, socioeconomic
and religious
backgrounds
2.3 with disabilities, giftedness
and talents
2.4 in difficult circumstances
2.5 from indigenous groups

I employed differentiated strategies and activities in different ways. I also considered scaffolding
such as providing visual aids and guided
printed materials. In performance tasks, I prepared individual and group activity so that everyone
has the chance to participate and excel in discussions.

3.What instructional strategies will you employ in face-to-face or in a remote learning delivery
for this lesson? Explain.

I will employ experiential learning because students need to know the process in writing the
essay. Through this, they will become familiar on how to write it and they can apply the steps
and considerations they have learned in writing essay in other subjects. I will also employ
interactive instruction for the group and whole class discussion.

3. Was the language used appropriate to the level of students? Explain your answer briefly.

Yes, I used age-appropriate language for high school. There is no vague

language and profanity. I used simple words so that they can understand me.
5. What types and levels of I used open-ended questions to questions did you formulate? Are
they of the higher order thinking skills (HOTS)? Write two (2)
examples.

Provoke discussion, allow unlimited responses, deliver new and unexpected insights. Open
ended questions are for higher order thinking skills because it is beyond textbook-based and
literal answers.

Examples:
1. What do you think is the importance of knowing the correct structure of an
essay?
2. How can you relate the hamburger with the structure of an essay?

6. What instructional resources will you use? Why? Cite the possible online resources that you
can utilize whether done in the classroom or in remote
learning?

I will use textbook and online materials. Textbook is useful to guide the
teaching and learning of the curriculum in a particular subject. I will use online materials to
supplement the concepts from the textbook. It is also convenient
to find information on internet.

an-essay-11572332.

7. Are your modes of assessment aligned with your learning outcomes and activities? Cite a
specific example.

Yes, my target goals are for students to identify the parts of an essay, construct
an essay using correct structure and critique an essay based on its structure.

Examples:
1. Following the structure of an essay(Introduction, Body, and Conclusion), create an essay
about your experiences in learning during this pandemic.

2. Group Activity

I will give you an example of essay, then you have to critique this based on its structure and
elements. List your observations on manila paper and present it after 5 minutes.

8. Will your performance tasks ensure the mastery of thelearning competencies? Explain briefly.

Yes, because the tasks are closely aligned with learning outcomes of the lesson. There are
opportunities for students to identify the parts of an essay and write it using correct structure.

9. In a scale of 1-10, How will you rate your learning plan(s)? Justify your answer.
This is 8 out of 10.

This is not the perfect learning plan but I know my objectives are feasible and aligned across all
dimensions of my lesson plan. This is enough for effective discussion and learning.

10. If this lesson is not implemented face-to-face, how are you going to do it remotely?

I will implement this through google meet of zoom meeting. I will use point
and attendance system to encourage maximum participation of the class. I
will also record the discussion for those who cannot afford to join the discussion
online.

Why is lesson planning an integral part of the instructional cycle?

Lesson planning is important because it will allow the teachers to anticipate

discussion. It will serve as the central guide of the teachers in the flow of the
discussion and how it will be done effectively. While teachers are planning their
lessons, they have the time to prepare for the instructional strategies and
instructional materials. In this way, they can execute the lesson and be prepared in
front of the class. Therefore, teaching and learning process will be enhanced and
teachers can set standards to be followed, achieve learning outcomes as well as
utilize the materials and resources efficiently and effectively.

Reflection
Lesson planning is an integral part of instructional cycle and it serves as
central guide of the teachers in teaching and learning process. Lesson planning
requires enough time and effort, I experienced difficulties in selecting appropriate
learning materials and instructional strategies. Balancing the needs of diverse
learners is really challenging but fulfilling when the lesson is done effectively.
Preparation is really important to prevent frustration for both teachers and learners.
Therefore, teachers have to plan and be prepared to achieve the desire goals.
