An essay is a short piece of writing which is set around a specific
topic or subject. The piece of writing will give information effective learning.
o
surrounding the topic but will also display the opinions and
thoughts of the author. It is also written to convince someone or to
simply inform the reader about a particular topic. In order for the
reader to be convinced or adequately informed, the essay must
include several important components. The main parts (or sections)
of an essay are the introduction, body, and conclusion.

Introduction
(Chocolate Hills in Bohol is a famed tourist attraction in the
Philippines which continues to draw attention for its unique and
majestic characteristics.)

The beginning, otherwise known as the introduction, is the writer’s

opportunity to present the main idea and grab the attention of the
reader. It must provide pertinent definitions, and briefly describe
what will be covered. Above all else, the introduction must clearly
state what readers are about to explore. Take note of the following
important points in the Introduction.
• It must contain an attention grabber for the reader or at least make
the essay sound interesting, it could also begin with a quote about
the particular topic
• It ensures that the intro moves from the general to the specific in
regards to the topic
• It provides the reader with a “road map” of the essay in a logical
order.

The Body
The middle, otherwise known as the body, is to expound upon the
main idea and grab the attention of the audience with solid facts,
statistics, statements, and other supporting details. The body will be
several paragraphs long, comprising the bulk of the essay. This is
where further details will be expounded about the main idea.
Furthermore, the following are additional points about the body
 Includes the evidence and support of the paper in addition
to the author’s ideas
 Includes a topic sentence which relates the discussion back
to the main idea.
 There is a Logical ordering of ideas
 Transition sentences are present to create a good flow to
the essay
 Includes substantial examples and evidence to support
arguments • Includes examples relevant to particular topic

The Conclusion The end, otherwise known as the conclusion, is to

summarize the essay in a paragraph or two. This section wraps all of
arguments and points. This should spur the reader to want to learn
more about the topic. It ensures the reader is left with something to
think about, particularly if it is an argumentative essay. There is a
sentence or two reiterating what was learned about those topic
areas.

Identify the following parts of an essay and tell whether it is an

introduction, body, or conclusion.

1. So, the next time you are wondering whether or not you
should have that second cup of coffee to perk you up, relax.
At least now you know what it will – and won’t – do for
you!.
2. How many of you consider yourself caffeine addicts? How
much coffee do you drink in a day? Two cups? More? How
about caffeinated sodas?
3. Caffeine does help you wake up and feel more alert and it
has been shown to increase attention spans. This is a
beneficial effect for people who are driving long distance
and for people who are doing tedious work. Calling the
health benefit may be stretching it, though staying awake
while you are driving a car definitely contributes to your
well-being!

the given time, the last group to finish will be the first one to
present the answer. The reporter will present the answer of the
group, while the checker will check whether the group answered
it correctly.

Annotations:

According to subject matter expert Beverly Jobrack, “Educational movement such as inquiry-based learning,
active learning experiential learning, discovery learning & knowledge building are variations of CONSTRUCTIVISM.
This lesson plan shows that I have used research -based knowledge and or principles of teaching and learning in
all components of my lesson. From the REVIEW and PRIMING part, I was able to ENGAGE my students into using their
prior knowledge. While in the ACTIVITY part I was able to let my students EXPLORE more ideas about the topic. I let
my pupil EXPLAIN in the ANALYSIS part and ELABORATE the concept learned in the abstraction part where the
progression of learning also took place. While the RESEARCH-BASED KNOWLEDGE was used in the APPLICATION
part wherein the COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE and CHALLENGING TASK was used.
