The Fault In our Dar

While boasting that the country has not defaulted, the country’s finance minster’s oversight has brought the
country on the brink. With no way forward and chest thumping claims, he has presented a populist budget of
14.4 trillion rupees. The increase in salaries of government employees, will further aggravate the situation as it
will increase inflation and subsequently unemployment. The revenues that will be generated from the taxes will
be used for debt financing and government expenditure will be met by taking further loans. There is a need to
contend with stagflation by taking tough economic decision but neither the government nor Dar has capacity or
will to take decision that will undermine their political position specially right before their constitutional life.
The expansionary budget with populist approach will make the deal with IMF further intense and there is likely
no chance of loan being released by IMF. In tough economic condition and Dar still living in cloud cuckoo land,
his claims for Plan B in case IMF deal fails, will not help the country to get out of this predicament. In fact, no
one knows the plan B even in incumbent government. The finance minister is mistaken if he thinks of getting
help from the friendly countries.
In this tough scenarios, Indian economic model is worth mentioning here and is exemplary. In times when India
was just weeks away from getting default with IMF and WB had suspended their assistance, the country took
difficult decision of pledging Gold to bank of England as collateral to secure its foreign exchange. Indian
economy took a sharp turn towards improvement and then they never looked back. The continuity of policies
after changing of government that followed the same steps as their predecessor, played another crucial role in
uplift of economy.
Dar can alone not be blamed for current economic situation but his incompetence and continuous denial of
country getting default has certainly played a major role in the decline of economy. Avoiding taking difficult
decision for political cause is jeopardizing the country’s economy and it will take us to the point where there
will be no way back.

Effective Leaders

After subliminal disturbance back at home led me to dwell on correlating effectiveness and
popularity of leaders. Popularity cannot be necessarily equated with effectiveness of a leader.
There are many examples in past where a leader is charismatic but lacks effectiveness,
Take example of Adolf Hitler who with his mercurial personality and fiery speeches intricated
hate among his people towards other nation and turned them into Nazis. After attacking on
Poland and consequently facing a major blow from Russian, France, Britan and America, he
committed sucide along with his wife to whom he married three days prior. Hitler took agenda
of restoring the lost pride of Germany after defeat in World War 1. In a failed coup attempt he
was sent to jail, but due to his fiery speeches in the court, he succeeded to get the sympathy
of court. After vivid election campaign he succeeded to become German chancellor eventually
manoeuvred to bcome head of the state and implemented one party dictatorship.
Goebbel , his propaganda minister instigated crowd at his disposal and started exterminating
Jews.
Konrad Adenauer was lord mayor of Cologne. He was courageous enough to openly
oppose Hitler. He refused to greet Hitler when he visited Cologne. A week after
becoming chancellor he removed knrad. For 10 years konard survived arrest and
Nazis hunt. After defeating from Allies, he pledged to rebuild Germany. He started
strengthening his country and restoring its dignity. After humiliation in world war
1 , he set up Christian democratic union. His ambition was based on moral grounds.
He decided to bring up the marred image of country and get it out of abyss. As a
strong character, effective leader, he became successful in portraying the positive
image of country. Imagine his challenges: overcoming the superiority of four super
powers, building coherence and confidance among people who have been defeated
in two wars. The economy was in taters and outside world was not willing to assitist
Germany after their barbaric genocide compaign against Jews. He believed in policy
of united Europe so he laid the foundation of EU. He aware of cold war knocking at
the door of eurpe so he played major role in strengthening NATO. He never
accepted berlin wall division so he laid down the foundation of reunification
eventually division ended in 1989.
