3 OPERATIONS STRATEGY

3.1. DEFINITION
Operations strategy is the collective concrete actions selected or stimulated by the
corporate strategy. The operations strategy joins together the operations decisions and
actions by connecting firm policies, programs, systems and actions into a systematic
response to the competitive priorities selected by the corporate or business strategy.

3.2. OPERATIONS STRATEGY EXAMPLES

It’s possible that several operations strategies may exist within a company simultaneously.

Market Penetration Strategy. Market penetration means capturing a larger piece of the
1 target market. Developing an operation strategy for market penetration has several potential
focus areas. One strategy might employ one or more geographic locations, centered around
a demographic target.

Product Development Strategy. Initially, when a product is offered it is compared to other

2 products on the market. Being the best is a good strategy, but it also means that competitors
will immediately work to exceed your product characteristics.

Improve the Supply Chain. The supply chain refers to the process of creating a product via
3 its delivery. One operation strategy can improve costs in the creation of the product or make
the delivery of goods more efficient.
