Solution: 1m = km = 0.001 km and 1 cm = km = 0.00001 km
1000 100000
Working
b. 14.25 × 4.82
b. 1425 (In 14.25 there are 2 decimal places.)
Solution: × 482 (In 4.82 there are 2 decimal places.)
2850
b. 14.25 × 4.82 114000
= 68.6850 + 570000
= 68.685 (Answer) 686850 (From the right count 2+2=4 places
and place the decimal.)

Example 6: The dimensions of a rectangular piece of land are 234.56 metres by
𝟏
150.25 metres. A farmer plans to sow seeds of vegetables in part of the field
𝟒
and wheat in rest of the region. Find the areas of the two regions of the field.
Solution: The dimensions of the land are 234.56 metres by 150.25 metres.
Area of the land = 234.56 m × 150.25 m = 35242.64 m2
1
Area of the region where he plans to sow seeds = of 35242.64 m2= 8810.66 m2
4
Area of the region where he plans to sow wheat = (35242.64 - 8810.66) m2
= 26431.98 m2
Answer: The areas of the two regions are 8810.66 m2 and 26431.98 m2.
Division of Decimals
Example 7: Evaluate: 1.21663 ÷ 0.89

Example 8: A 17.5 metre long rod is divided into two parts. of it is divided
𝟓
into 7 equal pieces and the rest of the part is divided into 4 equal pieces. Find
the measure of each of these pieces.
Solution: Length of the rod = 17.5m
