Chapter 6 Oxford Maths

Year 9

Review Of Area

-----------------------------------------------------------

Formulas
Area of Triangle: A = ½ b x h
Area of Rectangle (same as square): A = b x h
Area of parallelogram: A = b x h
Area of a circle: ∏ x r^2
Area of rhombus (same as kite): A = ½ L x H
Area of trapezium: A = a + b

Composite Shapes
A composite shape is one that can be divided
into simpler shapes.

!!!!!!!!!
Surface Area Formula
Calculate all the areas on the shape and add them together.
Closed Cylinder = 2∏r^2 + 2∏rh
Open Cylinder = 2∏rh
--------------------------------------------
Volume Formulas
Volume of any solid = A x H
Area of cross-section x heigh of the solid.
--------------------------------------------
Surface Area Of Prisms
Right and Oblique Prisms ------------------------
The axis of a prism is an imaginary line
joining the centres of the identical bases or
ends. In a right prism the axis is
perpendicular to the base or end, and the
bases or ends are joined by rectangles, as
can be seen in a net diagram. In an oblique
prism the axis is not perpendicular to the
base or end and the bases or ends are
joined by parallelograms and rectangles.
----------------------------------------------------------
How to Calculate Surface Area
Step 1: Identify all its faces.
Step 2: Calculate the area of each face.
Step 3: Add the areas of all the individual faces.
