Online Applying for Admission

Admission on the bases of FS.c
Step by Step Application Procedure

 Application submission will be online only. Hard copy applications are not acceptable.
 Go to http://www.pieas.edu.pk/ and click “Admission” tab
 Create an account and Login to start the online application.
 Fill in and submit online application form. [Read the instructions carefully]
 Upload recent passport size color photograph as per the defined standard.
 Upload academic documents.
 Print “Bank Challan” for Application Processing Fee.

 Make payment in nearest Askari Bank and Fill in the paid bank challan details in your
profile.
 Print the “Call Letter” (which will be made available after verification of fee through
bank).
 Appear for Test at the venue and date mentioned in your call letter.
 Merit List will be placed on PIEAS website within 3 weeks after test.
 Keep visiting your profile on our website for any update before and after Entry Test.
Application Processing Fee (APF)
APF within due date Rs 3500/-
APF within one weeks after due date Rs 4500/- -
Note: Application processing fee is non-refundable.
The Challan of Application Processing Fee must be deposited in any Askari Bank Branch of Pakistan.
There will be no bank service charges for submission of processing fee through anybranch of Askari
Bank.
Selection Procedure
Selection of candidates is made on the basis of Matric /O-level, F.Sc./A-level grades and writtentest
as per following distribution:
PIEAS Written Test 60% Matric 15%F.Sc or F.Sc (Part I) 25%
O-Level / A-Level 40% of O-Level equivalence from IBCC - [Inter Board Committee of
Chairmen]
 Test shall be conducted in major cities of Pakistan as mentioned on the application form.
However, the testing methodology may change in light of instructions issued and SOP defined
by Higher Education Commission, Government of Pakistan.
 The test will be comprised of MCQs based on English Comprehension, Mathematics, Physics

and Chemistry / Computer Science. Sample paper is available at PIEAS website.

 The level of questions for Mathematics section would be Matric/O-level or equivalent in order
to cater pre-medical students who are eligible for admission to BS Physics programand BS
Computer & Information Sciences Program.

Admission on the basis of SAT Scores

PIEAS has reserved some seats for admission in BS programs on the basis of SAT scores.

 All Pakistani nationals of both Matric / F.Sc. and O / A level streams are eligible to
compete on the basis of SAT score.

 Admission shall be based on SAT II result of three subjects

 The SAT score should be at least 2000 or more to be eligible for admission.
 Merit list on the basis of SAT score shall be prepared separately for admission in BS
programs.
 SAT scores may be sent to Registrar, PIEAS latest by the deadline mentioned in
admission advertisement.
 The PIEAS institutional code to receive SAT scores is 7272.

How many marks should I obtain to get admission in PIEAS?

One of the frequently asked questions on the forum is "How many marks should I obtain to get admission
in PIEAS?" followed by another question after the merit list is out "My merit number is x or y, will I be
able to secure a seat in z department?" It's not a simple question. Let's discuss it sequentially in a
systematic manner as there are several factors involved.

Let's say that it's a fine good day and you are sitting in your respective test centre. Exam is being
disturbed. You get your answer sheet. Every paper in the sheet have some questions which examines your
concept. It doesn't matter whether you have A-levels background or from some government college
because the underlying concepts that you have studied are same no matter the different syllabi.

Now you see a question and be like "Voila! I know it's answer" or like "Daamn! Why did I don't study
that particular topic!" All these questions collectively are intended to do some function. Well, you are
being examined how you stands out among other students or in other words why you should get
admission in PIEAS? And that's important!

Let's say you attempted some 75 questions correctly. Now, you can't actually predict that how much
students did 75+ correct attempts. There might be 100 students with 75+ correctly attempted questions or
there might be 300+ or 500+ or 700+, you see, It depends. And that's actually the point which hinders
anyone from saying with 100% surety that since you have attempted 75 questions rightly so you are able
to get admission in PIEAS.

But a rule of thumb, the higher the number of successful attempts, and the better it is.

Now, let's see another scenario. PIEAS doesn't disclose the obtained marks of students. Rather merit list
is issued. Assume that the merit list is out and your merit number is around 500. While the available seats
are around 300. Now, again, you can't predict how much students will grab their seats from top 300. May
be 100 students secure their seats or may be 200 students. Usually not all the top 300 students secure their
seats due to some reasons so let's abandon this case. Now let's say some 150 students secured their seats
and second merit list is issued so the merit number has declined to 450 (from 300, just a lil bit maths).
Again not all 150 students will secure their seats due to some reasons. Thus, in third merit list the merit
has declined to some 525. Congratulations! You got admission in PIEAS, Thanks to those students who
didn't secure their seats. Well, if those students are not so kind to you? Don't worry though, the world is
full of kind people

So, now another 25 students get admission and the merit number for 4th list has declined to 575 and so
on... Concluding it, we can say (well not with 100% surety though) that if you are in top 600-700
students, you are in kind of safe zone. Below it will reduce your chances but it's not the case always. Back
to 2020, the merit declined up to around 1800th merit position while in last year, the last students be able
to get admission had merit position around 900 or 1000.

Now you are able to secure a seat. But which department? That's again kind of uncertain thing. Different
departments go up and down w.r.t the last merit position for that specific department. But usually it goes
in order ME > EE > CS > Physics > Chemical > Materials. However, again, it's not the case always.

I hope that this post clarified some of the basic queries that some of you desperately wanted to ask. But If

Social Life in PIEAS:

PIEAS is Pakistan's most renowned educational institute. It is nurturing the talent of Pakistan by
providing best educational facilities. Every year, thousands of students try to grab a seat here but merely
2-3% students can do it. Now, the students who become successful in competition of taking admission,
think about several things beside their studies because they have to spend 4 exciting years of their life in
an institute. Study is not any and every thing of academic life sports, co-curricular activities, extra-
curricular activities these are also a part of it. So it's natural to think about it.

It's a common misconception that there is no social life in PIEAS. It's not 2010 when there were only 2
departments (for undergraduate students) in PIEAS! it's 2022 and number of departments has been
increased from 2 to 6 and in coming years more departments will be introduced. Number of students has
also been increased and it will go on further. More students means more diverse range of interaction
which ultimately results in more exciting social life. Currently, social life in PIEAS is good, not so well.
But it will eventually become more exciting as I explained above. There are several societies here. You
will surely find the one you like. If not, don't worry. You can request to establish one. And if you have
enough supportive students and you fulfil the criteria, a new society will born.

Is PIEAS like a jail?

This the question most of the juniors are asking nowadays. A straight forward answer to this is "NO".

I have spent a year in PIEAS but never felt such feelings. PIEAS is an affiliate institute of PAEC
therefore being a sensitive place, the security here is tight. There are laboratories where research work in
nuclear physics is performed so for the sake of national security, security is held tight. Because any
mishap here can cause an immense pressure on Pakistan to roll back it's nuc. program (You better know
it's consequences.:-!). But tight security doesn't mean jail. Contrary to it, you feel pleasantly secure and
safe here. You can leave and come back to campus anytime, even at 1am. No one will question you where
you had gone or from where you are coming.(In early days, for the safety of students, they impose some
strict rules but eventually they become uneffective.) Surrounded with natural beauty, greenery and
mountains, no other university in Pakistan can provide you such a peaceful and calm environment!

Scholarships

University Scholarships :

PIEAS Education Support Fund ESF

Education support fund was establish in 2018 to compliment PIEAS need based scholarship program, and
extend the sphere of financial assistance to include waivers such as hostel fee/ monthly living expenditure
support/Qarz-i-hasna etc.

PIEAS need based scholarship

PIEAS need based scholarship program aims to assist the students from under privileged or weak
financial background in continuing and completing their studies at pieas. The program includes a
financial support in the form of tuition fee only. The amount of tuition fee waivers ranges from 25% to
100% based on criterion developed by the committee

Procedure for applying on need based scholarship

A three page document will be open, read it and print the third pageFill it

Submit the application in DME (department of mechanical engineering) office (timing 9am to 4pm)
Then they will call you for interview

Each applicant is supposed to appear for an interview through which an Executive Committee will
finalize its recommendations for the grant of a financial assistance in favor of an applicant. These
recommendations are required to be got approved from Rector prior to implementation. The entire
process of disposing the financial assistance applications may require a period of 5 to6 weeks. The
applicants are advised to seek the approval of Rector for a delayed submission of their semester dues
for a period of about 06 weeks.
Few days after Executive Committee interview, list of students (those who are eligible) will be
displayed. Those who qualified in ESF have to renew their scholarship after every two semesters.

You can apply in ESF in start of 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th semester. CRs will inform their department
students when application portal is open (if information is provided to him), but it is not CR’s, duty
you must have knowledge of how to apply and when to apply.

Policies may change every year this was when I applied for ESF (in 2020)

Ehsas scholarship
Ehsas Undergraduate Scholarship Program covers

 100% Tuition fee

 Other mandatory academic charges. (it’s academic charges; mess, hostel or living
expenditure are not included)
 Give You 40 thousands per annum stipend

Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Program was launched by the Prime Minister Imran Khanon

November 4, 2019 in Islamabad. This is the largest ever needs-based undergraduate scholarship
program in the history of Pakistan. Under this program, every year, 50,000 students from low-income
families will be awarded scholarships for 4 to 5-year undergraduate degree programs. The geographical
spread of the program covers all four provinces, AJK and GB. Phase-1 Scholarships distributed in
March 2020

Phase-2 Distribution started in May (it is not confirmed) 2021

Online registration portal is now closed and will be open for phase-3 expected in Octoberbecause
phase-1 and 2 were started in October

Go to https://ehsaas.hec.gov.pk website and create your account. Make password like this 123abc@AB
(involving small alphabets, numbers, capital alphabets and special characters)

Fill application form very carefully and honestly

After filling online Ehsas Form save it and then print it and attached the required documents

Applicants are required to submit hard copies of the application form along with the supporting
documents to the financial aid office of the university by the given deadline After a month or 2,Ehsas
scholarship team will visit PIEAS and they will took your interview. From online applingto grant of
scholarship may took 3 to 4 months or more

There will be no test conducted for Ehsas Scholarship. It is based on interview and the form youfilled.
So, show integrity while filling form rather they will point out you in their interview

Hostel Checklist

You should bring:

 Hair comb, nail cutter, hair oil, body spray, cream or lotion, miswak or tooth brush, tooth paste,
soap, shampoo, conditioner etc. (bring all required personal hygiene items)
 Bedsheet and pillow (mattress will be provided), kambal or Razai (for winters.)
 Crockery (plate, spoon, bowl, cup, knife, and fork, a mini water cooler or a water bottle.).
Detergent and sponge for dish washing is provided in mess bring yours also.
 Stationary items like clipboard, calculator, stapler, Folder or files(to keep important documents
safe and organized)
 A briefcase with a mini lock (to keep your important stuff safe and secure)
 An electrical extension (for each student, usually one port is Provided)
 An umbrella, shoe brush and polish

Facilities available at PIEAS:

 Washing facility (Washing machine + Dryer)
 Ironing facility
 24/7 electricity
 24/7 internet services (both Wi-Fi and LAN)
 In-room heating (for winters)
 Geyser system for hot water in bathrooms and washrooms
 Cleaning facility (Corridors and washrooms are cleaned and sanitized with phenol daily. Sweepers
take a round of each room every week. Moreover, you can ask them to clean your room anytime.)

The fee refund policy is as follows:

 Complete refund after deduction of admission charges if the request for refund is made up to first
week of semester I.
 50% refund, if the request for refund is made in the 2nd week of semester I.
 No refund after 2nd week.

Attendance
A student shall be eligible to sit for the terminal examination provided that he/she has attended not less
than 80% of the lectures/seminars delivered to his/her class and 80% of the practical/laboratory
demonstrations prescribed for the respective course. The student falling short of the required percentage
of attendance of lectures/seminars/practical/laboratory demonstrations etc .shall not be allowed to sit in
the terminal examination of the concerned course and shall be treated as having failed in that course.

Rechecking of Papers
a) The answer book of a student in any examination shall not be re-assessed under any circumstances.
b) Re-checking does not mean re-assessment or re-evaluation of the answer book; however, it will be
checked that:-
1. There is no mistake in the grand total on the title page of the answer book.
2. The total of various parts of a question has been correctly made at the end of each question.
3. All totals have been correctly brought forward on the title page of the answer book.
4. No portion of any answer has been left un-marked.
5. Total marks in the answer book tally with the marks sheet.

c) The candidate or anybody on his behalf has no right to see or examine the answer books for any
purpose.
d) Paper rechecking request can be made within a month of result notification. Time barred applications
will not be entertained.
Procedure: The student submit the rechecking preforma along with the receipt of rechecking fee in the
Examination Cell within 30 days of the declaration of the result. Time barred applications will not be
entertained.

Summer Session
a) Registration of new (not taken by the student previously) courses will not be allowed, during summer
session. However, in special circumstances, a student may be allowed to register for Thesis
Project/Design Project in summer session.
b) Only those students are eligible to register who are full time registered students of PIEAS.
c) Students who have either failed the courses or dropped the courses may register in summer session
with the approval of the concerned department.
d) Students who want to improve their grades in courses being offered by the department may also
register in summer session. However, grade improvement in a course will be allowed only once.
e) The summer session will spread over a period of ten weeks. The time schedule will be announced by
the Controller of Examinations in consultation with the concerned Head of the Department.
f) The summer session will not be counted as a regular semester. Therefore, the maximum number of
semesters allowed will remain twelve.
g) The department may refuse registration in summer session without assigning any reason.
h) The procedure of registration and the rules for fee payment will be that of a regular semester.
i) All students, registered during the summer session will be charged the following dues at the rate
mentioned in the fee structure.
1. Tuition fee

3. Examination fee
j) A student may register for a maximum of two courses. PIEAS Academic Rules and Regulations for BS
Programs, Revised in June 2022 Page 8 of 10 k) All the courses taken in the summer session will be
mentioned in the transcript. l) The marks/GP obtained in the summer session will be counted towards the
calculation of CGPA. However they will not be used for the calculation of semester’s GPA.
m) Rules of probation and termination will not be applied on the summer session.

An Interpretation Committee comprising of the following will be asked to interpret any rule(s) if needed:

2. Deans of Faculties
3. Concerned Head of Department
4. Registrar
5. Controller of Examinations (Secretary)
