What is
Atherosclerosis?

Thickening or hardening of the arteries caused by a


buildup of plaque in the inner lining of an artery
making it stiff.
Plaque is an accumulation of fat, colesterol, calcium
and fibrin.
Causes:

Although the exact cause is unknown, altherosclerosis can begin with


damage or injury to the inner layer of an artery.

- A TYPE OF FAT (LIPID) IN THE BLOOD

Prognosis

What you should know

Atherosclerosis cannot be reversed once it has

occurred. However, making lifestyle changes and

treating high cholesterol levels can prevent or slow the

process from getting worse.
