Classroom Management

Before you take your seat, please observe

your proper seating arrangement.

Now, as you can see, we’ll be conducting our

seatmates, and be participative.
And lastly, raise your hand if you want to say
or share something to the class.

Is that clear?

and never answer me in chorus. I want
everybody to be participative and active! Will
that be all possible? Yes, sir.

I am always fan of love stories even when I

was a kid. I always believe in the magic of
love. To note, I have always been a fanatic of
princes and princesses. Let me sing you a
song of one of my favorite of One Thousand
and One Nights. You may sing with me.

(Will sing “ A Whole New World”)

Are you familiar with the song? On which

musical play of Walt Disney is it included?
Yes sir. It is from Aladdin’s theme songs.

And because I came prepared I have here

Aladdin’s magical carpet.
Unfortunately, Jafar made a curse on this
magical carpet! It cannot fly anymore. Jasmine
and Aladdin cannot go on with their vacation
here in Lipa (lonely tone of voice).

Jafar:

Aladdin and Jasmine:

The genie told me that the curse could only be

removed once we helped Jasmine and Aladdin
in conquering the challenges on the magical
carpet.

Oops! Tsk tsk. This is what magical carpet

looks like right now. How poor!

What observations can you get from the

cursed magical carpet? The carpet doesn’t look the same as before.

Correct! What particular game could you think

of once you see this picture? It looks like a Patintero field, sir.

Precisely! Who among you knows how to play

this game? (Learners will raise their hand)

III. ABSTRACTION
Thank you! Let’s start our discussion.

Patintero, also known as harangang-taga or

tubigan, (Intl. Translate: Escape from the hell
or Block the runner) is a Filipino traditional
children's game.

History of Patintero

Patintero is derived from the Spanish word

tinta ("tint" or "ink") in reference to the drawn
lines. Another name for it is tubigan, tubiganay,
or tubig-tubig ("water [game]"), due to the fact
that the grid lines are also commonly drawn by
wetting the ground with water. It is also known
as harangang-taga or harang-taga (lit. "block
and catch"), referring to the game mechanics.

Thank you everyone for participating! I know

Jasmine and Aladdin are so happy in knowing
that St. Agnes are helpful and generous
learners! Look! They are waving their thanks
and good bye!

(Insert another soundtrack from Aladdin)

Going back to the reality, Anyone here who

has an experience in playing Patintero?

Answers may vary.

Game Description

Patintero is played on a rectangular grid drawn

into the ground. The rectangle is usually 5 to 6 (Learner will raise their hand and read
m (16 to 20 ft) in length, and 4 m (13 ft) wide. It the slide.)
is subdivided into four to six equal parts by
drawing a central lengthwise line and then one
or two crosswise lines. The size of the
rectangle and the number of subdivisions can
be adjusted based on the number of players.
The individual squares in the grid must be
large enough that someone can stay in the
middle out of reach of someone standing on
the lines.

Thank you. How about the materials?

Materials of Patintero

The equipment requires for the game includes

chalk or paint, a score sheet, a whistle, and a (Learner will raise their hand and read
stopwatch. The playing court should be a the slide.)
rectangle of about 7.5m long and 5m wide
divided into six.

Thank you for sharing. This time, we have its

mechanics, who wants to read?
Answers may vary.

Mechanics of Patintero

 Line 1 is guided by the leader of the

taggers. He is at the front line of
defense but he can move to any of the (Learner will raise their hand and read
lines to tag. the slide.)

 His teammates stand along Lines 2 and

3 ready to block any coming Invader
who has crossed line 1.

 With outstretched hands, all the taggers

go back and forth along the lines to
prevent the entry of any invader.

 The invaders try to distract the tagger

on line 1 so they can enter the
rectangle.

 If an invader succeeds in crossing lines

1, 2, and 3, he traces his way back to
line 1, trying to avoid any tagger who
will prevent his exit.

As soon as this invader crosses line 1 gain and

gets out of the rectangle without being tagged,
he shouts “Tubig”

He scores one point for his team.

If a team of invaders scores three points, their

team stays on base as taggers in the next
game and the opponent stays outside as
invaders.

The team with more points within the agreed

time wins. A runner who is tagged while
crossing a line or trying to cross causes his
team to lose the game. They become the
runners. Players may repeat the game as
many times as they want.
Points to remember during the game:

1. Avoid being tagged when crossing a line.

2. Save your team from the penalty of avoiding
a tagger.
3. Going out of the rectangle sidelines to avoid
a tagger.
4. Being tagged before your team can store
any point.
Yes, Sir.
Are all those points clear?
Answers may vary.
Do you have any questions?
Answers may vary.
How about clarifications?
Thank you, Sir.
That is the end of our discussion

how well you grasped our lecture today. As
a result, you will be separated into four
groups of six players each. Group 1 will

championship match. Each group will be
given five minutes to examine the game
mechanics and plan their game play.
