Configuration via IP or RS 232

Configuration of GE 300 Intercom Servers can be carried out via a RS 232 or standard network cable.

For configuration of features see manual “PRO 800”.

IP (Ethernet)
Connect the PC for configuration with a network cable directly to the Intercom Server (“Uplink” port
of G3-GEM) or with a switch in the network.
In a network the Intercom Server and the PC must be in the same subnet.
The Intercom Server is automatically advised an IP-address during initialization (see “Configuration
of IP-Network Settings” on page 16)

RS232
For configuration via RS 232 a 9-way D-Submin extension cable (1:1, Plug: Server-side, socket PC-side)
is required.

This cable is connected to the 9-way D-Submin socket on the motherboard G3-GEM (see “Connection
Diagram GE 300, GEZ 300, GEI 300” on page 11).

GE 300 5. CCT-Configuration

Start-up of a Networked System

In networked systems each Server housing must be advised a unique number (Server-ID). There are
two methods of advising each Intercom Server a Server-ID:

For a maximum of 14 housings the Server-IDs can be set via the DIP-switches of the G3-GEM. This
is the easiest method, because the PC does not need to be connected to each single housing.
The numbers can also be set with the program CCT, e.g. for more than 14 housings or if the program-
ming should be prepared in advance for an Intercom Server.
Attention: The standard calling numbers, that are automatically allocated to the housings (see “Stan-
dard call numbers” on page 42), must be changed by configuration if more than 9 housings are con-
nected. Otherwise three- and four-digit numbers beginning with the same digits would occur (e.g. 110
in housing no. 1 and 1101 in housing no. 11).

Setting the numbers with DIP-switches

1. Initialize each housing with the desired number (1 to 14):
Set the DIP-switches 1 to 4 of the G3-GEM to “ON“.
Switch the Intercom Server off and back on.
Set the desired number (switch position see below).
Switch the Intercom Server off and back on.
Attention: Initialising the Intercom Server resets the configuration. Therefore any configured net-
works can not be reached anymore.
2. Connect the PC to any housing and read out the configuration of the Intercom Server with the
program CCT (Menu Intercom Server > Receive). Now all cards are recognised correctly and the
Intercom Server can be configured as usual. For configuration the PC can be connected to any
housing.

5. CCT-Configuration GE 300

Setting the numbers with CCT

1. Intercom Server > Cards
2. Click in the right hand side area with the right mouse button and select add Intercom Server. At
Intercom Server-Type select the option GE 300, at Server-ID the desired number is entered and
accepted with “OK”.

3. Repeat step 2 and enter the next number in the field Server-ID. Repeat this step for all further
housings. At Description a text for each housing can be entered.

4. Menu Intercom Server > Initialize

5. Connect one housing after the other to the PC and select Initialize. In the field Current Server-ID
the current Server-ID is displayed. In the field New Server-ID the desired number is entered and
taken over with Initialize.

As soon as the number is transmitted it also appears in the field Server-ID.

6. Receive the configuration of the Intercom Server (Menu Intercom Server > Receive, in the area
Reached all Intercom Servers must be visible). Now all cards are correctly recognised and the
Intercom Server can be configured as usual. For configuration the PC can be connected to any
housing.

Configuration of IP-Network Settings

Auto-Configuration of the Network
When a GE 300 is initialized an IP-address is automatically generated for the G3-GEM:
G3-GEM
GE 300 - Server-ID No. 1 10.10.1.1
GE 300 - Server-ID No. 2 10.10.2.1
GE 300 - Server-ID No. 3 10.10.3.1
... ...

Configuration CCT:
IP - Settings > Tab Common
Card IP Address: In this field the desired IP-address for the Server is configured.
Subnet mask: In this field the desired subnet mask for the Server is configured (e.g.:. 255.255.0.0
for Auto-configuration of the network).
Router IP address: In this field the IP-address of the router (also "Gateway") is configured, via
which the Intercom Servers communicate.
A VLAN - ID is only required when the GE 300 is in a virtual network. The ID is entered as decimal
value between 1 and 1023.

16 1.1/1209
GE 300 5. CCT-Configuration

The MAC - Address is displayed only in CCT, but cannot be changed.

In the combo-box Uplink the ethernet operation mode of the RJ45 ports can be selected:
 Autonegotiation
 10MBit / Half duplex
 10MBit / Full duplex
 100MBit / Half duplex
 100MBit / Full duplex

Configuration of Bandwidth Usage

It is possible to define the maximum bandwidth used in the network by the Intercom Server.

Configuration CCT:
IP - Settings > Tab Extended Settings
In the combo-box Bandwidth in kBit the bandwidth which is used in the network by the G3-GEM
can be selected (data + speech). The overall bandwidth must always be set higher as the Databand-
width. Recommendation: select no limitation!
Data-Bandwidth in kBit: In this combo-box the bandwidth which is used for data packets that
leave the G3-GEM cards can be defined. When the bandwidth is reduced, the packets leave the cards
with a larger time period between them (Traffic Shaping Algorhythm according to Leaky Bucket Prin-
ciple). This prevents a “Packet-burst” which can lead to a queue overflow at the router.

At bad internet connection or missing QoS:

When transmitting speech via a data network the Intercom Server carries out a automatic jitter adust-
ment. At a bad internet connection or missing QoS mechanisms this can lead to a diminished speech
quality.
Jitter Buffer Start Delay: If the speech at the start of conversations is faulty the time in this com-
bo-box should be increased.
No decrement of Jitter Buffer: If speech quality is not good during conversations this field should
be activated. This prevents automatic readjusting of the jitter adjustment.

E.g.: T170-4711-0815-4711-0815-4711
Is generated by the Intercom Server (G3-GEM) and is required to deactivate the licence at the licence
server. After deactivation and release at the licence server the licence can be allocated to a different
Intercom Server. This increases the generation number by 1 step.
Is only required when no internet connection is available during CCT-configuration

The Licensing Process

The following example shows a typical licensing process

1. Receiving of the serial number of the Intercom Server -> Allocation of the licence key to the serial
number of the Intercom Server in CCT (see page 25).
2. CCT sends licence key and serial number to the licence server
3. The licence server calculates the activation code and sends it back to CCT
4. CCT sends activation code to Intercom Server -> licensing process complete
The licensing process depends on the two following factors:
CCT has or has no connection to the internet
CCT has or has no connection to the Intercom Server
Depending on these factors the licensing process follows a different procedure.

The Program IPStationConfig

With the program “IPStationConfig” the first installation steps for IP-stations / IP-boxes are carried out
(allocation of IP-addresses).
Further configuration is carried out in CCT (e.g. configuration IP-subscriber card, allocation IP-subscri-
ber card – IP-subscriber) see page 39.

The program “IPStationConfig” can only be used in local networks (LAN).

This means, before the IP-stations / IP-boxes are installed at the respective locations, all IP-stations/
IP-boxes have to be configured in a local network previously.
The PC which is used for configuration does not have to belong to the same subnet as the IP-stations/
IP-boxes.

Additionally it is possible to save the configuration as XML-File and load it later on. It is also possible
to export the configuration as XLS-, TXT- or HTML-File.

with NAT” on page 48).

Attention:
Single Port Protocol is only supported by IP-terminals with firmware versions as of:
 ET 901: 02.4 Build 03 / 03.1 Build 03
 DSP900 (for ET 908): 03.1 Build 04
 G3-IP: 02.5 Build 03 / 03.0 Build 02
When changing the port number of IP-terminals with older firmware versions, the start port number will be
changed – the following ports are changed as well (e.g. first Port No. = 16400 → following ports = 16401,
16402, 16403 and 16404).

General note:
The port 16399 is used by the program “IPStationConfig” for configuration of the devices.

Via the checkbox Dyn, the dynamic registration via the MAC-address can be activated.
Attention: This feature additionaly has to be activated in CCT see page 39.
Short Description – Dynamic Registration:
By means of this feature, the registration of an IP-terminal on an Intercom Server even via a non-static Internet
access (e.g. ADSL) is possible (note: for the Intercom Server always a static public IP-address is required).
The registration of the IP-terminals on the Intercom Server is done with the current IP-address & port num-
ber. The allocation subscriber – device will no longer be done via the IP-address & port number, but exclu-
sively via the MAC-address of the IP-device. Thus, several IP-terminals configured for dynamic registration,
can be registered on the Intercom Server with the same port number and the same IP-address.
Consider: Static and dynamic devices NEVER may have the same port number & IP-address!

Note MAC-Address:
The dynamic registration of an IP-terminal described above is enabled by transferring the MAC-address of
the Intercom device, in the data payload of the IP-packet.
If the MAC-address can be set manually (like for the “Intercom Client”), then these IP-terminals may never
have the same MAC-address.

In the column Mac the MAC-address of the IP-subscriber is indicated.

Click on the button Advanced, to display further columns:

In the column Color a color coding can be advised to subscribers.*

In the column CallNo the call number of the IP-station / IP-box can be changed.*
In the column Description a text for identification of the IP-station / IP-box can be entered.*

In the column Host Name a name for the IP-subscribers can be entered which identifies the IP-sub-
scriber for the DHCP server. If no name is entered, a standard name will be used (when using DHCP).
In the column Version the firmware version of the IP-station / IP-box is indicated.
In the column StationType the station type (connected to the ET 901) is indicated.
In the column EB-Interface connected expansion/option boards are indicated.
In the column Password it is possible to advise a password for the individual subscribers, see

 100MBit / full duplex
VLAN:
In the following columns the so called “frame tagging” (IEEE 802.1Q) can be configured – this also
means that the Ethernet header is extended by 4 bytes:
In the column Pri the priority level can be set (IEEE 802.1P), i.e. a total of 8 priority levels from 0 to 7.
The priority for the transmission of voice/speech shall be set to level “6”.
In the column CFI the bit for the “Canonical Format Indicator” can be set (i.e. 0 or 1).
In standard, the CFI bit shall always be set to “0”.
In the column VID the VLAN-ID is set (IEEE 802.1Q), i.e. in total 4096 (212) from 0 to 4095 VLAN-IDs
are possible, but “0” and “4095” are reserved.
Attention:
In standard, switches do not accept “tagged” Ethernet frames from terminal equipment (e.g. PCs,
Intercom stations)!
Therefore when using VLAN, an appropriate configuration of the respective switch is required!

Sending the configuration

It is possible to send either the entire configuration, only the configuration of IP-subscribers that have
been modified or the configuration of the subscribers selected in the table.
Open the drop-down-list next to the button Write Settings: and select

NAT, see page 48 – must be the same port number which has been configured with the program IP-
StationConfig, see page 34 → consider also the note to the single port protocol on page 34).
In the field Subnet mask the subnet mask of the IP-subscriber defined with the program IPSta-
tionConfig, is indicated.
In the field Router IP Address the IP-address of the appropriate router (i.e. the gateway in the
WAN) defined with the program IPStationConfig, is indicated.
VLAN - ID: not supported in CCT.
Via the checkbox Dynamic registration, the dynamic registration via MAC-address can be activated
Attention: This feature additionaly has to be activated in IPStationConfig see page 34 (see also
short description of the feature on see page 35).
In the field MAC - Address the MAC-address of the IP-subscriber is indicated (can not be configu-
red).
In the combo-boxes Uplink and Downlink the ethernet operation mode of the network link (RJ 45)
configured in IPStationConfig, is indicated.

Tab Extended Settings

In the combo-box Bandwidth in Kbit the bandwidth, which is used in the network by the IP-
terminal can be selected (data & speech). The total bandwidth must always be set higher than the
Databandwidth.
Recommendation: Select no limitation!
In the combo-box Databandwidth Kbit the bandwidth which is used for data packets that leave the
IP-terminal can be defined (see diagram on page 39). When the bandwidth is reduced, the packets
leave the terminals with a larger time period between them (Traffic Shaping Algorhythm according
to Leaky Bucket Principle). This prevents a “Packet burst“ which can lead to a queue overflow at the
router.
Databandwidth for
 IP-subscribers: min. 32 kBit
In the combo-box card poll time it is possible to define, how often the card checks if the IP-sub-
scriber can be reached.
In the combo-box station poll time it is possible to define, how often the IP-subscriber checks if the
card can be reached.
Recommendation:
Activate this feature when operating an IP-subscriber over WAN (dynamic firewall, dynamic NAT).
If the checkbox VOX-Control is activated, speech packets are only transmitted when a signal is ac-
tive at the microphone. This function shall only be used if the bandwidth in the network is limited.
Attention: For this feature min. firmware 2.1 for an ET 901 is required!
In the field DSCP the bits for DSCP (Differentiated Services Code Point) Packet Marking can be en-
tered – value range: 0 to 63 (e.g.: 46 for “Expedited Forwarding”).

IP-Addresses with Subnetting

The subnet mask specifies which portion of an IP-address represents the network ID (for identification
of the subnet) and which portion represents the host ID (for identification of single network compon-
ents). “Subnetting“ is e.g. using single bits from the host ID for forming further subnets.

Router configuration with NAT

With a special configuration at the router, it is possible to connect multiple IP-stations/IP-boxes in a
remote network with only one IP-address.
For this, the distinguishing of the IP-stations/IP-boxes is done with NAT (Network Address Translation).
The router internally exchanges the IP-addresses of the packets.
Addressing of the individual IP-stations/IP-boxes is carried out via the port numbers.
