Preface
Many of us were taught that business people are stingy,
and only do what’s best for themselves. Whether it was our
parents, grandparents, teachers or even the mainstream
media who taught us this, the image of stingy wealthy people
has for years permeated our imaginations. For the successful
businessperson, this stereotype has caused an internal
conflict that if you have a financially successful business, you
couldn’t possibly be Godly, because business people are
ruthless and selfish!

Throughout this book, you’re going to discover why it is

completely okay to be wealthy, as long as your priorities are
aligned with His priorities. Making a lot of money doesn’t
necessarily mean you’ll simply walk away from God, and on
the contrary, if your goals are kingdom-oriented, you’ll
inevitably draw closer to God! What you’re going to learn in
this book is that God’s purposes for our lives will only be
discovered and maintained as we build a bond with God. More
powerful than a relationship, which can be separated, a bond
is unbreakable. Such a bond can only be built by spending
time together with Him.

A bond with God means that you get to know Him

intimately, learning everything you can about Him, and
understanding His voice and direction for your life and
business. I want to show you in this book not only how to
create a bond with God, but how to get your desired results
out of that bond.

Friend, maybe you’ve had success financially, success in

your business pursuits, and you want to find out the secret to
increase what you’ve started. Perhaps it’s the exact opposite:
6
your finances are in a shambles, your cash flow is anything but
flowing! And the business you dreamed about starting - has
become a nightmare.

From my experience and what the Holy Spirit has taught

me over the years, our results are always a product of what we
believe. If we align our beliefs with His beliefs, then we’ll begin
to see God sized results! If you’re not where you want to be
financially or in your business, instead of elevating your
opinions, and running around seeking answers from others’
experiences, get in the presence and source of all wisdom and
knowledge: God! For too many believers, their relationship
with God starts and ends with salvation, and the occasional
crying out to Him in a crisis.

If you are the one I wrote this book for, and you want to
understand how to live a life of God’s financial abundance as
you develop a bond with Him, talk to Him right now. Find a
private place where you can share your heart and speak your
mind: “Father open up my mind and my heart. Show me how
to develop a close bond with you, to the point where I can hear
your voice and I know what you’re telling me to do in my life
to create financial abundance. I know you are my God and
Jesus is my savior, but I want to go deeper with you, to know
you more, and to tap into all that you have for me in this life.”

I believe as you dig through the pages of this book you

will uncover your greatest source of wealth, a bond with
Almighty God. And Friend, when you have that, not only will
you have success in your business and finances, but you’ll find
success with your family and your health as a byproduct! Let’s
dive in…

Chapter One

The Crisis

My world had collapsed in front of my disbelieving eyes:

no job, living on maxed-out credit cards, house and car
repossessed. All the pieces necessary to create this crisis in my
life and my fledgling family had fallen into place over a period
of only months. The expectations, hopes and dreams of
success in business and living a prosperous life seemingly
evaporated in the heap of financial disaster. That was my new
reality.
I found myself a long way away from where I started in
life. Already, at the early age of fifteen, God spoke to me about
being an entrepreneurial business leader. Throughout my
teen years I had expectations that great things would happen
professionally in my life. From nineteen to twenty-one, I
worked as a sales manager for different companies, but the
call to be an entrepreneur was always somewhere in the
background.
At twenty-one I finally felt God wanted me to step out on
my own in business. At first, I ignored what He was telling me
to do. I lacked confidence. I thought I needed a lot of cash in
the bank before stepping away from a job with a regular
paycheck. I was a successful sales person with a great income.
So, now God was blessing me financially and telling me to
leave the blessing. I ignored His voice.
Twelve months later the CEO and owner of the company
I worked for came to my office and said they were shutting the
company down. My thoughts were conflicted: I was scared,
had just gotten married and had another mouth to feed, what

9
if it doesn’t work, what if I fail, what if I end up homeless, what
if I cannot support my wife, what if…?
Somewhere in the whirlwind of my thoughts I
remembered God’s prior direction to me. I was unsure how it
would work out, but realized this was my beginning as an
entrepreneur. I was annoyed and frustrated that God was
forcing me out of my comfort zone: a 100K a year salary plus
sales bonuses. Yet, what most people would have viewed as
God trying to hurt them, I ultimately saw as an opportunity.
In my discomfort and anticipation, I left the company.
Observing the great money people were making in real
estate, I charged twenty-five thousand dollars on my credit
card to participate in a real estate investing seminar. I was
certain this was it. The expectations of professional success
and desire to make millions was wrapped up in what I learned
in that seminar. I thought, this is God’s plan for me, I will be
successful!
Leaving behind a regular pay check, and stepping out
into the uncertainties of entrepreneurship, it seems that all
my fears became reality: my cash flow abruptly stopped, and
a short time later I found myself at this crisis point.

The Revelation
In the midst of that crisis, I felt profound failure and fear.
My wife had recently informed me that she was pregnant with
our long-desired son. I wanted to bring him into a secure
world where I was able to provide for him and his mother—
not into the current circumstances of a house in foreclosure, a
car being repossessed and maxed-out credit cards.
In my despair, I confronted God. I was a believer, had
acknowledged Jesus as my Savior and Lord. I was in church
weekly sitting on the front row. I was faithful in tithing ten
10
percent of my income to the Lord’s work, generous in giving
above my tithe when I saw others with needs. And, I “kind of”
prayed. In my mind I was doing everything right, I was one of
the good guys, I was trying to live a godly life. I was not
supposed to be expecting a baby with no money for food, a
decent car to drive, or permanent roof over our heads.
As I asked God how this financial disaster was happening
to my family, He told me if I take care of His kingdom, He
would take care of me. I didn’t understand at first—wasn’t I
already doing that? That crisis moment where I brought my
frustration over my collapsing world, and fear of the future to
God was the catalyst for a revelation that has transformed my
life—God told me I needed to develop a bond with Him
He shared that many people are convinced that they are
putting His kingdom first, but they are not, because they are
doing it for the wrong motives. James 4:3 talks about why
prayer is not answered: “You ask [God for something] and do
not receive it, because you ask with wrong motives [out of
selfishness or with an unrighteous agenda], so that [when you
get what you want] you may spend it on your [hedonistic]
desires.”
People are convinced they are doing something good:
faithful church attenders, tithers, even praying. But it doesn’t
work when the motive is for what you want, your kingdom. It’s
actually a dangerous place to be—thinking you are living in
and for the kingdom, when in reality you are blindly living for
the wrong motives and desires. It’s similar to an alcoholic who
always has a drink in hand, but adamantly denies that they are
addicted to the drink. They think they are ok, but the reality is
far from their perception.
To help me understand the point He was making, He said
if people spent as much time with their kids, wife or other
loved ones as they do with Him, those relationships would fall
apart or be nonexistent. People take God for granted. We

11
know He’s always there, so we give Him some worship and a
short prayer on Sunday, but the rest of the week we go on with
our lives without much thought of Him. If there is a crisis, we
know where to find Him, so He gets our full attention, and
requests for help, until the crisis is over and we return to
normal.
Matthew 6:31-33 says, “Therefore do not worry or be
anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted), saying, ‘What are we
going to eat?’ or ‘What are we going to drink?’ or ‘What are we
going to wear?’ 32 For the [pagan] Gentiles eagerly seek all
these things; [but do not worry,] for your heavenly Father
knows that you need them. But first and most importantly
seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His
righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude
and character of God], and all these things will be given to you
also.”
Matthew 6:33 is the antidote to James 4:3. Instead of
living your life out of your own agenda and desires, live your
life with the primary goal to seek after His kingdom agenda
and desires—and He will take care of all the things that you
need and desire in life.
I am to seek, aim at, and strive after His kingdom. That
means I am seriously attempting to find Him, His word, His
ideas and wisdom for my life. Most people—including the
pagan Gentiles in Matthew 6:32—have the priorities reversed;
they are seeking after the “all these things,” the wealth,
property and prosperity of life. They worry about the next
meal, or getting the latest fashion accessory or ride, or how to
pay the bills.
Proverbs 10:22 states, “The blessing of the LORD brings
[true] riches, And He adds no sorrow to it [for it comes as a
blessing from God].” When we seek after the things of the
world, we are the owner who has to be responsible for those
things. The stress and anxiety in life come from having to

12
maintain what you birthed and created. When we seek His
kingdom first, all those things will be given to us, without the
stress, worry or fear that comes when we are the one’s
dependent for our success. We can live in the highest place of
faith—resting in God’s promises because His Word will do
what is promised.
When our blessings come from God, we are managers of
what He gives—He is the owner and One ultimately
responsible. Think about the owner of a great mansion. The
owner hires a manager who manages the affairs of the house.
But the house manager doesn’t need to worry about paying the
bills for the house, because he or she is only the manager.
To seriously seek after His kingdom and righteousness,
we must develop an indestructible bond with Him. Instead of
being a person who only goes to God in a crisis, diligently and
consistently engage the Father. Many people go through the
motions of prayer, but there is no bonding experience with
God. For most of us, if we begin our day with a short “God
bless my day” prayer or no prayer, God is not at the forefront
of our thoughts throughout the day, nor do we make time to
pray except for the crisis moments. To develop a strong bond
with God, we need to invest in the bond.

All These Things

Through the pain of financial devastation and lack, God
started to share with me about creating a bond with Him
through prayer. That He is the source of all the solutions for
any problems I can and will experience. He is the One who
knows my life from beginning to end. He is the One who
promised if I seek His kingdom and righteousness first, all
these things would be added to me. The verses before
Matthew 6:33 tell us that “these things” are the daily
necessities of life: food, drink and clothing. Add to that list
13
your house, car, work—everything you have need of to live
your life.
And, it’s not just our needs that He wants to meet. Psalm
37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the LORD, And He will give you
the desires and petitions of your heart.” As we build a bond
with Him, and seek first His kingdom, His desires will become
our desires. He will give us our petitions and desires as we
shift our focus from our kingdom wants and desires to His
kingdom and His people. I used to look at myself as the source
for everything I needed in my life, that if things were going to
happen in my life it was up to me—a mindset that left me
emotionally broken and humiliated.
Seeking God’s kingdom means I study His word,
pursuing His wisdom, knowledge and understanding. It
means I pursue His righteousness—His way of doing things,
and obey the Holy Spirit’s direction in all things. As I do that
I am rightly positioned to receive God’s best—all these
things—because I am living for the kingdom of God. I obey His
voice and command because my life is about His kingdom
instead of the kingdom of Mario.
As I began to put God first, spending time with Him
every morning before work, busyness, distractions, phone
calls and social media, our bond began to develop. From years
of being someone who occasionally prayed, I was now
developing consistency, and a bond with Him was forming. A
result of the bond was that I began to hear His voice more
clearly, and He gave me wisdom and direction to eventually
climb out of the financial pit I was in. He showed me what to
do, and I obeyed and saw the fruit of obedience.
Obeying God’s voice is sometimes very difficult. It’s easy
when the obedience demands little from you. But, when the
call to obey requires sacrificing something near and dear to
your heart, obedience becomes costly. Think of Abraham and
Isaac! God’s command was to physically kill the one who was

14
the gift and promise of God to Abraham. The command to
Abraham was really a test of his trust in God. For you and me
it is often the same. He will ask you to step out in obedience in
something that is big, for you, to see if you trust Him. Your
bond with Him builds the trust in Him that allows you to obey
Him.
One of the first things He told me to do was to give $1000
away. I didn’t have the money in my account, but felt His
direction so strongly that I charged the $1000 on my credit
card. The key is that God directed me to give this gift. I don’t
advise going into debt on your credit card to give gifts, unless
God gives you clear direction to do so.
As I obeyed, I had an expectation that He was going to
bring me a new business. In His presence He told me to go to
a particular conference. Seven days after the conference, He
gave me and my brother an idea for a retail company that I
launched with my brother. We started in a garage with
nothing, but over five years that company generated multiple
seven figures.
In 2013, God said to sell the company. My brother and I
had discussed selling but never actually wanted to until God
spoke to us to sell. The scary part was, what were we going to
do after the sale? We sold for a great price, but now what? It
was a huge decision, not made based on our wisdom or
comfort level, but based on the Holy Spirit’s—our CEO—
direction. As soon as we sold the company, the whole industry
changed. When God said to get out, the industry was at its
peak, and we got out with no debt and more money in the bank
than I thought I could ever have.
Over the past few years, His call on my life as a business
entrepreneur has been abundantly blessed as I have invested
in my bond to Him first. And, I have recognized that my
business and entrepreneurial endeavors is my ministry—what
God has called me to do while I am on the earth. My ministry

15
is to create businesses that generate wealth as a resource for
building the kingdom. As I take care of the kingdom, He takes
care of my family. And, as a businessman, I can touch the lives
of secular people that a preacher could never touch.
James 1:17 says, “Every good thing given and every
perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of
lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom
there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by
His turning [for He is perfect and never changes].” God is the
source of all blessings: our family, health, peace of mind, and
our success in business and resultant wealth. He can teach you
how to experience all that His way with no strife, stress or
worry.
You may be at a financial low point like I was years ago,
or you may be successful in business but not know how to use
that business to promote His kingdom. Perhaps you are
financially successful but losing your family, or lacking peace,
fearing that you will lose all you have. You may be a faithful
believer in your church attendance, tithing and devotional life,
but find your bond with Him is not as close as you desire.
Wherever you find yourself, change will happen as you shift
priorities and make some sacrifices to develop a bond with
Him.

Chapter Two

What Is A Bond?
“Human bonding is the process of development of
a close, interpersonal relationship between two or
more people. It most commonly takes place
between family members or friends, but can also
develop among groups, such as sporting teams and
whenever people spend time together. Bonding is a
mutual, interactive process, and is different from
simple liking. Bonding typically refers to the
process of attachment that develops between
romantic or platonic partners, close friends, or
parents and children. This bond is characterized
by emotions such as affection and trust. Any two
people who spend time together may form a bond.”

When God said He wanted to build a bond with me, it

was a new concept. As I was only familiar with human
bonding, I looked up that term in Wikipedia. I discovered that
in human relationships, a bond is that invisible attachment
that connects and unites us with another person. I can’t see
the intangible bond of friendship, but I experience it
emotionally as we share deeply about our lives, mentally when
we debate over the issues of the day, solving the world’s
problems, or spiritually when we pray together.
We each have the capacity to develop multiple bonds
with other persons in each stage and age of our lives. The
Wikipedia definition talks about bonds with parents, children,
close friends, athletic teammates, or romantic and platonic
partners—an endless list of potential relationships.
19
The connection that ties you to each of your relationships
can be emotional, mental, spiritual or a combination of the
three. I have friends that mentally challenge me, family ties
where the bond is a deep emotional connection from years of
walking together through life, and still other relationships
where I have a spiritual bond with another person.
Human bonding is the process of developing a close
interpersonal relationship between two persons signified by
affection and trust that develops as we spend time together.
It’s more than simply liking someone. I can like you, but if I
never spend time with you and communicate with you only
occasionally, the bond between us will be weak or nonexistent.
I can call you my friend, but the bond is not tight without a
commitment of time and regular communication.
Most of us have experienced the exhilaration of a new
friendship, the euphoria of a new love, and the heartbreak
when a relationship ends: the friendship dies, or the marriage
separates. We experience the ups and downs of relationships,
but never analyze what we did right or wrong that contributed
to the success or failure of our relationship with the other
person.
Relationships are created and die all the time, but a bond
is more powerful than a relationship. Instead of a one-shot
investment of time or communication, developing a bond
requires regular attention. We may have started a friendship
when we spent the day together back in 1998, but without any
ongoing investment in that relationship there is no bond. You
change, I change, the world changes—and while I may
consider you my friend, I may not really know anything about
you all these years later.
The closer the bond, the greater the commitment and
investment necessary to maintain the bond. If you are
married, you can’t ignore your spouse for long periods of time
and expect that you will remain married. Talking only

20
occasionally, not communicating the issues of your hearts
with each other, spending little time together as a couple can
form a rift in the relationship that may eventually lead to
divorce court. If you are married, your marriage is your most
important bond with a human being and it needs consistent
and creative work to keep the bond tight. It needs honesty,
integrity, time alone and constant communication.
I know, children are added to the marriage, mortgages,
job stresses and the like stretch a bond that should be close. If
you want to maintain the bond you began with your husband
or wife on the first date when you knew he or she was your
soul mate, you are going to have to invest in the time and
communication that will keep the bond strong and rejuvenate
the bond when the relationship gets tired.
If you are not married, the same principles apply to
building a bond with family members or a friend. My best
friend in high school was a guy named Mike. We spent every
day together in school and after school at each other’s houses.
Because of our commitment of time and communication, trust
was built. When we moved away from each other, despite the
geographic distance between us, Mike and I have attempted
to maintain the bond. Unfortunately, we only talk once every
three months but when we reconnect, it’s like we were never
separated.
With friends, you can pick up exactly where you left off
the last time you spoke, but the bond will only be so deep
because you’re not spending enough time together as you
could or should be. It’s not like the bond I have with my wife
where I see her and share with her what I am experiencing
daily.
Sharing personal issues is only done with someone
you’re close to, in a relationship that is as transparent as
possible. Someone you connect with, talk to, spend time with,
someone you see or hear from on a regular basis. That’s the

21
type of person you will share your deepest, darkest, secrets
with. The only way to get to that place in a relationship is to
cultivate a bond.

A Bond With God

Building a bond with God consists of the same elements

that are in human bonding: an investment of time together,
communication and transparency.
I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior at age sixteen.
God had dramatically touched my life, and after years of
knowing about Him, I now felt I knew Him. But, it wasn’t until
I was twenty-three that God gave me the revelation of the
bond. So, from age sixteen to twenty-three I was religious but
didn’t really develop a bond with Him. I did what most people
do: attend church, occasional prayer. I loved Jesus and knew
He was there for me, but there was nothing intentional about
what I was doing.
I borrowed other people’s prayers, repeating the words
with my hands together in front of my face, on my knees
beside the bed or a chair. I had perfect religious form,
imitating what I thought prayer was supposed to be. The
problem was that my relationship with God wasn’t growing. I
was going through the motions, saying the “right” words, but
it was something that I was doing, just to do. I loved God, I did
pray here and there, but lacked a deep intimate bond with
Him.
Besides the direction of what to pray, I received other
advice: two-minute prayers were OK as long as you gave God
the glory; just start out the day saying hello to God and go on
with your day. The multiple guidelines and rules and
suggestions actually confused me at times until I understood
that God wanted an intimate bond with me, and I took it upon
myself to seek the Lord based on my own schedule and “rules”.
22
To develop a bond with God will require an investment
of time. You can start your day and say, “hello” to Him on your
way out of the house, and say, “thank you, good night” before
you doze off for the night, but it will leave you with a
superficial relationship with Him.
Ask yourself a question: If you spend as much time
with your wife, husband, children or someone you love as you
do with God what would that relationship look like right now?
Most people wouldn’t have a great relationship with that
person because their time with God is so limited. Put down
this book for a minute and meditate on your answer to that
question. I’m sure you recognize that if you spent the same
amount of time with your husband or wife that you do with
God, your marriage would likely not survive. You cannot get
to know God intimately unless you are willing to invest time
in His presence.
Similar to your human bonds, a bond with God will be
built as you get to know Him. As you spend time in His
presence, opening up your heart in conversation with Him,
allowing Him to encourage, strengthen and care for you
through His Spirit and Word, a bond is developed. After years
of praying “religiously,” once I got the revelation of why I
should spend time with Him, I began to ask Him what
specifically I should do to build the bond.
I quickly realized that God wanted me to spend a certain
amount of time with Him every single morning. The purpose
for my daily time with God is to communicate with Him. It’s
not just getting on my knees, with my hands folded, praying
my rote prayers, clocking in my time with Him, trying to get
something from Him. It’s a set-apart time for me to be
transparent with Him, thanking and praising Him for who He
is and what He’s done and is going to do. A time to open my
heart about the issues of my life, asking my questions of Him,
and waiting in His presence to allow Him to talk back to me.

23
He is the creator of the universe who understands
everything from how the solar systems interact to the
minutest detail of your life. In Luke 12:6-7, Jesus was
encouraging His disciples that God was watching out for
them. In verse seven He said, “Indeed the very hairs of your
head are numbered.” The God of the universe knows how
many hairs are on your head at any given moment. He created
you, He knows you intimately, and you can trust Him with
your deepest secrets and unspoken issues.
He already knows all about you, but He wants you to
open up your heart to Him. As you talk to Him, asking
questions, let Him talk back. Ask Him specific things like how
to deal with the rebellion in your child, or how to develop in
your job or business. It can just start with a question: “Help,
what do I do with my son?” “Hey, what changes do I need to
make in my company to cause financial growth? What am I
missing?” Let Him answer.
Psalm 25:14 states, “The secret [of the wise counsel] of
the LORD is for those who fear Him, And He will let them know
His covenant and reveal to them [through His word] its [deep,
inner] meaning.” The Hebrew word translated as “the secret
of the Lord” has an implied meaning of a company of persons
in close intimate deliberation. The fear of the Lord is a
reverence for Him. As I honor Him by spending time in His
presence, and open my heart to Him, He opens the secret
things of His counsel and covenant to me.
I spend time with Him because I love Him, just as I spend
time with my son based on my pure love for Him, not to get
anything. It’s the same with God. I have experienced Him as
my King and father, mentor, teacher, counselor, CEO, the
lover of my soul and love of my life!
I reserve a set time each day to come into God’s presence
in worship, prayer and His written Word, the Bible. I will
share with you later in the book about some of the parts of my

24
daily time with God. Although I have a set time with Him, and
some regular activities that I participate in, it is not the same
as my years of rote praying. Developing a great bond requires
a flexibility that allows for spontaneity. If He has a different
agenda than I do for my time with Him, I let Him interrupt
my schedule. I meet with Him because He’s my father and I
love Him. I want to learn from Him, sitting in His presence
waiting for Him to show me His secrets and covenant
promises and how they apply to details of my life.

Time With The King

There is a biblical concept of the first-fruits. In Bible

times you would bring the first of the grain you harvested to
the temple and offer it to the Lord as a sacrifice. It was an
acknowledgment that God was first in your life, and was your
provider. It was giving Him the best instead of the leftovers at
the end of the harvest season. It was also a sacrifice, because
if God got the first of the harvest, you had to wait awhile to
enjoy your portion of harvested grain.
This principle should be applied to giving the first fruits
of our money to the Lord. Malachi 3:10 says, “Bring all the
tithes (the tenth) into the storehouse, so that there may
be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says
the LORD of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of
heaven and pour out for you [so great] a blessing until there is
no more room to receive it.” As we obey and give the first tenth
of our income to the Lord, He promises blessings that we will
not be able to contain.
As He taught me about the bond, I began to understand
that the first fruit principle was not just for my money, it was
also for how I spent my day. If I wanted to develop a bond with
God, and seek His kingdom first, was I willing to wake up early
and give Him the first fruits of my time each day? Mike
25
Murdock said that what you do with the first will determine
the blessing on the rest. How I spend the first moments of
each day determines how the rest of the day is blest.
Jesus is our supreme model and mentor for life,
including prayer. From Jesus’ example we learn the following:

1. Even though He was one with the Father, He was

dependent on the Father, and consulted Him
regularly. In John 5:19, Jesus said, “I assure
you and most solemnly say to you, the Son can do
nothing of Himself [of His own accord], unless it is
something He sees the Father doing; for whatever
things the Father does, the Son [in His turn] also
does in the same way.”
2. Jesus prayed first thing in the morning. Mark
1:35 says, “Early in the morning, while it was still
dark, Jesus got up, left [the house], and went
out to a secluded place, and was praying there.”
Jesus woke prior to sunrise to be with the Father.
3. For Jesus, prayer was a habit. “And He came out
and went, as was His habit, to the Mount of Olives;
and the disciples followed Him” (Luke 22:39).
4. The majority of Jesus’ prayer life was alone. Luke
5:16 tells us, “But Jesus Himself would often slip
away to the wilderness and pray [in seclusion].” Of
the many times the Gospels mention Jesus praying,
there are only a few recorded words that He actually
prayed. The majority of His prayer life was
secluded, face-to-face, with His Father.

Jesus consulted the Father before He made decisions,

after ministry times, in the morning and at night. He did
nothing without consulting the Father. If Jesus is our model
for life, and as the only begotten Son of God had to spend time

26
with the Father to get direction to succeed in life, how much
more important is it for us to do. You wonder why you can’t
figure anything out in life, but you are not spending time with
the Father the way Jesus did…
The majority of Christians see prayer as only petition—
asking God for things. Jesus spent time with the Father
because He loved His Father, to pray for others, to praise and
thank Him, for direction and counsel, or the Father’s will to
take place in his life.
To know what the Father wants, we must be intentional
about spending time with him. It is okay to meet with Him at
different points throughout the day. The Bible says, “be
unceasing and persistent in prayer” (I Thess. 5:17). But, we
must also honor Him with the beginning of each day. The
problem most of us have is that we don’t really believe we need
Him to succeed each day. We can say we depend on Him, but
our lack of spending time with Him exposes our lie. Jesus
knew He could do nothing without the Father’s direction and
counsel, which He obtained as He prayed.
If you are satisfied doing life in your own strength and
wisdom, great—this book is probably not for you. If you, like
Jesus, recognize that you can do nothing without Him, yet are
not hearing or understanding what He wants from you. And,
your current habit of occasional prayer is not effective, you
need to make some changes to get different results.
Most people in this generation don’t understand honor
and protocol, especially not in the context of a kingdom. If you
are invited to an audience with the Queen of England and
don’t follow the proper order, nor give her the honor and
respect due her position as queen, you will quickly be removed
from her presence and never allowed back. The same applies
to the President of the US or other heads of state.
As there is an order for coming before the queen or the
president, there is an order for coming before the King of

27
Kings (I’ll talk more about this order in a later chapter). The
God of the universe invites you to an audience with Him.
Jeremiah 29:13, says, “Then [with a deep longing] you will
seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will]
find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” Most
people would follow protocol when coming before the
president or the queen, but treat lightly their time with the
King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
If you received a call from the president’s office inviting
you to meet with him the next morning at 6 a.m. you would
hopefully do everything possible to be there on time, best
clothes, clean shaven, no excuses. Yet, we have a long list of
excuses that keep us from our audience with the King! If we
believe He is who He says, we need to make time with Him the
number one top priority before anything else. No more giving
Him the leftovers of our time—a couple minutes before bed, a
quick prayer for help in the middle of our hectic day.
He desires to meet with us, to be intimate with us, to be
our source and our strength. He deserves our best, when our
minds are not cluttered by the activities of the day, in the quiet
of the morning when we can focus solely on Him. I’m not
talking about a religious activity, but with open hearts coming
into the presence of God, honoring His presence, bowing our
knees and hearts before our King.

Reflection Questions:
In your own words, what is a bond?

What are the main components necessary to

creating a bond with God?

Answer the question I asked in this chapter: If

you spent the same amount of time you spend with
God with your spouse, kids or another loved one,
what would that relationship look like right now?

In your own words, explain the concept of first

fruits as it relates to your money and your time with
God.

How is Jesus your model for prayer?

What are your excuses that keeps you from

spending time with Him?

Chapter Three

Why Build A Bond?

When you read about successful people in any field of

endeavor, their success can generally be attributed to them
having a strong ‘why’. The ‘why’ is the purpose behind what
they are aiming for in business, the arts, social services,
athletics, or for God’s kingdom. Their ‘why’ gives them a sense
of purpose for doing something, keeping them inspired to
achieve, and moving forward through obstacles, failures,
road-blocks and success.
When you’re building any endeavor, you’re always going
to have tests and tribulations. For example, statistics show
that fifty percent of Christian marriages end in a divorce.
Marriage becomes too hard when the two partners can’t agree
or are unwilling to compromise to keep the marriage
together—so the easy way out is for them to throw in the towel
and give up.
If you dig down beneath the failure in a marriage, many
times the problem is that the husband and wife lost the ‘why’
they had when they originally got married. They lost the desire
to please one another, they lost the willingness to compromise
out of love and most of all they stopped caring because it
became “too hard!” When this happens, people get into a place
where everything turns into a blame game.
Unfortunately, marriages of forty and fifty years are
ending in divorce. Could it be that the ‘why,’ the strong sense
of purpose that inspired them through years of hard work,
child rearing, sickness and health, better or worse, richer or
poorer, needs to be revisited and revived and recommitted to?

31
It’s the same for business persons and entrepreneurs.
How many projects or endeavors have you started then
stopped prematurely? How many times have you said you
were going to create a business, but stopped working on it, so
it crumbled before you. Sometimes the reason that happens is
because you haven’t developed a strong enough ‘why!’ You
lack a purpose, a reason to succeed: that thing deep down
inside that says that nothing can stop you from getting to your
goal, and if any obstacles are thrown at you, you will not budge
until you get to your expected outcome! When you feel like
quitting you can look at your ‘why’ and say this is the true
reason I’m moving towards my goal.
I encourage you to develop a powerful ‘Why’. A ‘why’ will
keep you inspired to read this book to the back cover and will
spill out into your life. Unfortunately, eighty-five percent of
people who pick up this book will not finish it! Their initial
excitement over the cover art, title and first few pages does not
translate into a compelling purpose for completing the book.
If you have a strong enough ‘why’ you have something inside
of you that keeps you moving towards your goal, which will
inspire you to finish this book.
You will need to sacrifice some things to develop a bond
with God. For most of us that means carving out time with
God first thing in the morning, which means you’re going to
have to give up some sleep! If you have to get up at three a.m.
to prepare for work, then get up at two-thirty a.m. and get in
His presence. The only way you’re going to do that is to have
a purpose that gives you the energy to say, “I’m getting up
today for this reason,” even though I’m tired and I don’t feel
like doing it.
Your ‘why’ is a strong sense of purpose that will keep you
going forward during the times you will be tested or tried
when the temptation is to quit. At first you have to create the
‘why’. Why do you want to bond with God? Why do you want

32
to develop an intimate bond with Him? Why do you want your
bond with Him to be closer than anyone else in the world: your
spouse or children or even your pastor?
I’m closer to Him than anyone else in the world because
my ‘why’ in life is so compelling. I believe that He is the source
of all wisdom. My success in life is based on me seeking His
kingdom first. As I connect to Him, draw from Him and put
His kingdom first, He is the source of all I have achieved in
life. Whoever your closest relationship is, God wants to be
even closer. Take another break from this book, close your
eyes and ask yourself, ‘why?’ Why do you want to build a bond
with God? Grab a pen and write down your thoughts.

I Love Him!

The answer to ‘why’ that most people give is that they

love Him. Who can argue with wanting to love God and
demonstrating that love through acts of devotion. But,
unfortunately, many say the words, “I love Him” but haven’t
come to grips with what that love means to them, and how that
love affects their actions. What does love for Him mean to you,
and how will that love inspire you to get up early in the
morning to spend time with Him? You need to be inspired and
motivated or it won’t happen.
Some people are natural morning persons. They jump
out of bed at the first light of dawn, and dive headlong into the
activities of the day without even a cup of coffee. But, if truth
be told, most people are not morning persons and it will take
more than a vague understanding of “love” to get them out of
bed early. Even if you are an early person, you will still need a
reason to develop a habit and consistency in early-morning
prayer, or you will eventually find a reason to stop.
For example, you may love your husband or wife, but
how many want to get up at dawn to talk to your spouse just
33
because you love them? If the fire alarm goes off, or your child
runs into your room sick, or someone calls with an emergency
early in the morning, you will certainly communicate with
your spouse. But, the words, “Honey, I love you!” no matter
how earnestly they are said at four or five a.m. will likely be
met with a groan.
If I told you that at the end of six months, I would give
you one million dollars, would you get up at six a.m. each
morning? Yes! You could do a lot with a million dollars.
Because of your desire to experience the benefits of the
money, and the wonderful changes it would bring to your life,
you would be willing to give up some sleep. So, if you would
do it for money, what will it take to inspire you to do it for your
Father. You have to find your motivating reason—your ‘why’—
for getting in His presence. Your reasons why it is important
for you to get up in the morning to meet with God.
My number one reason for getting in the presence of my
Father every single morning is my love, appreciation and
thankfulness for who He is and what He’s done in my life. Just
as I desire to spend time with someone I love in the natural
world, my love for Him has grown over the years as I
understand who He is. He is the King of Kings and Lord of
Lords, and I honor Him for that. Also, it is a sign of my trust
in Him. I give Him the first fruits of my time each day, which
communicates that I trust Him to take care of the rest of the
day for me as I dedicate the beginning to time with Him.
Beyond the foundation of my love for Him, my reasons
for wanting to get in the presence of God daily include the
following:

1. He is the source of all wisdom, and if I get in His

presence my problems and issues in life can find
answers and solutions—which directly affects my
quality of life.

34
2. I want to be so close to Him that I know nothing
is impossible in this life. I want to have more faith
than anyone walking this earth. I want to be able to
accomplish anything in this world that I put my
head to because I can hear His voice at any given
moment of the day, and I can act based on what
He’s instructing me to do.
3. I want to build a bond with God so that
supernatural miracles will follow me. Not just
healing miracles but supernatural provision and
increase in my business. Since God has called me as
an entrepreneur on this earth, I want people to look
at my life and business and see that it is God who
has blessed, protected, and guided me in my
business.

I only began to understand what it means to love Him

first in my life as I spent time with Him over the years. While
my love for Him is my goal, I would not have spent the time
with Him without the other goals I listed above.
Starting with the foundation of your love for Him, what
is the ‘why’ that will inspire you to pursue an unshakable bond
with God? Write down your initial ‘why’ then take it to a
deeper level, and write down additional reasons that come to
your mind. For some this will be a revealing exercise, as you
will begin to explore things about yourself that were not in
your consciousness.
Having a compelling ‘why’ is the only thing that I know
that will give you a sense of purpose and inspire you to seek
after a bond with God. It’s the only thing that drives me when
I don’t want to get up in the morning. On those mornings
when I don’t want to get up, I think about ‘why’ I want to be
closer to Him—have more wisdom and faith and miracles—
than anyone else in the world. I want to be able to do anything

35
that God asks me to do with confidence. The only true way I
know how to do that is by developing a close bond with God.
A sense of purpose will help us finish what we were
created to do, even when there are seasons of obstacles that
stand between us and our goal. In the garden, Jesus
experienced unbelievable agony, but He fought through the
temptation to give up His mission because He had a sense of
purpose. And, within His purpose, He ultimately wanted to
please the Father by fulfilling His will. Jesus is our model. As
Jesus prayed, we need to pray to have the faith and courage to
continue in His will and receive instructions on what to do
when we are tempted to give up and give in to the pressure.
There will be times where you are going to be tired, or
busy, or simply not feel like doing it. Remember, anything you
have to work for is something you will cherish forever once
you achieve it. What will drive you is your ‘why’. It will keep
you driven when you are tired, keep your confidence level up
when you aren’t feeling very confident and will ultimately
pave the way for you to become successful in building a bond
with God.
Once you have your ‘why,’ I want you to keep it I front of
you. Write it down, and verbally repeat it to yourself every
single day. If you say it and it doesn’t inspire you then you
need to keep digging deeper, until you finally figure out what
is your true desire. If your ‘why’ doesn’t motivate you to keep
going, then you haven’t found the true reason of why you want
to develop such a close bond with God. You have not
discovered what is really important to you.

I Love Him, But…

Maybe you don’t really want to have a close relationship
with God. Be honest with yourself. Dishonesty will keep you
from moving forward in life. For example, an alcoholic may
36
say they are not an alcoholic. In their mind they are not an
alcoholic, even though they have issues when it comes to
having a drink and not being able to stop. If they want to stop
being an alcoholic they have to admit their problem and then
ask for help.
If you don’t have a desire to be close with God at this
very moment, then you need to be honest. Don’t feel bad. I
haven’t always had it. It’s okay to go to God and be real with
Him, tell Him when you don’t feel like doing something, tell
Him to give you the desire to go deeper, tell Him to teach you
how to strengthen your will and desire to know Him more
intimately, tell Him to lead you, guide you, instruct you on
how to be focused and alert when in His presence.
Many of our beliefs about God developed from what we
experienced as a kid, and learned from those around us in our
family or circle of friendships. And when I talk to you about
developing a bond with God, your emotions and mind are
taken back to the past. Perhaps your biological father was
absent or abusive. So, when I talk about God as Father, you
recoil in anger or fear. Or, for some of you, religion was
pushed down your throat. You spend most of your pre-adult
years trying to measure up to other’s standards, and you
developed a distaste toward God.
Stop worrying about meeting everyone else’s
expectations in life. You will never measure up to what anyone
else wants you to be. You are you and you need to be who God
called you to be. Stop worrying about not doing something
right the first time, or not being efficient enough for your
friends or family members. Rely on God and His direction to
get you through whatever you are going through and lean on
Him for His wisdom. Stop and be honest with yourself and
with God even if it hurts.
Be honest with yourself and God. God will meet you
where you are, even if it’s to the point where you say, “God, I

37
don’t have a desire to wake up every day and be close to you, I
don’t have a desire to pray every day, I don’t have a desire to
be in your presence every day, because I didn’t always have
that desire, I have never had that driving force to be in your
presence every day but I am now wanting to learn how to do
that.” God will honor you more for your honesty than you
trying to give Him lip service when your heart believes
something totally different.
Allow Him to help you deal with the emotional issues
that keep you from wanting a bond with Him. God just wants
a pure, open, honest and teachable heart. It was difficult for
me to get into God’s presence because I didn’t have a desire to
pray. It was even more difficult for me to admit that to God.
The reality is, God knows your heart. He knows the depth of
the issues of life you deal with. He knows your deepest,
darkest, secrets and His only pleasure in life is to be believed
and to be trusted by you.
Our problem is that we try to hide our issues from Him.
Instead of leaning on Him for the answer or going to Him for
direction or a solution to the problem, we keep all our
emotions inside, and all of our thoughts in our head. Open
your mouth. Speak out loud just as you would to a friend
seated in front of you. You need to voice your issues to Him so
He can help you get past them.
Hebrews 4:13 says of God, “And not a creature exists that
is concealed from His sight, but all things are
open and exposed, and revealed to the eyes of Him with
whom we have to give account.” As God, He already knows
every issue you have, but wants you to bring those issues and
burdens to Him: “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily
burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I
will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]”
(Matt. 11:28).

38
For the first twenty-three years of my life, I didn’t have a
desire to pray. I tried so hard to act like I didn’t have an issue!
In church when the Pastor asked, “who in this room likes to
pray?” and everyone’s hands go up ... I knew people were
lying, because I was. I lied to myself about something that was
very difficult for me.
There were times I got in His presence and didn’t feel like
talking so I just sat and waited to hear from God. One day He
told me, “Mario, just be honest and open. If you’re honest and
open I can help you and deal with you. If you’re not open and
honest with me, there is only so much I can do to help you.”
So, I went to Him one day and said, “God, Father, Lord
Jesus I don’t know how to say this, but I have no desire to
pray, I have no desire to spend time with you.” Through that
confession God gave me wisdom and ideas of how to make a
shift in my life in this area.
What eventually happened to me is my spirit became
stronger than my flesh. Spending time with Him eventually
became easy because my human spirit desired it. Start with
your ‘why’ and you will eventually get to the place where the
spirit outweighs the flesh trying to stop you.
The only way you’re going to get to the place where you
have a close bond with God is by your ‘why,’ your success and
your desire being solely focused on Him. “But you shall
remember [with profound respect] the Lord your God, for it is
He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may
confirm His covenant which He swore (solemnly promised) to
your fathers, as it is this day” (Deut. 8:18).
The power to make wealth come from Him. It is through
your bond that He will give you the ideas, wisdom and
strategies to make you successful. And as He opens doors in
your life, and you obey, you will see His covenant confirmed
in your life!

Reflection Questions:
What is your ‘why’ in life?

Why do you want to build a bond with God?

What does it mean for you to love God?

Starting with the foundation of your love for

Him, what is the ‘why’ that will inspire you to pursue
an unshakable bond with God? Write down your
initial ‘why’ then take it to a deeper level, and write
down additional reasons that come to your mind.

Chapter Four

The Fruit Of The Bond

The Bible is filled with the story of a God who desires a

bond with humanity. The first chapters of Genesis set the
template for the bond, with God conversing with Adam and
Eve, in the same way you and I would talk if we were face to
face.
From the beginning of Genesis, we also see the
connection between a bond with God and provision,
prosperity and wealth. Genesis says that God planted the
garden in the east of Eden, and placed the man in the garden.
Interjected between the planting and the placing is a narrative
that describes four rivers that originate from the garden: “The
first is named Pishon; it flows through Havilah where there is
gold. The gold of this land is good. The land is also known for
a sweet-scented resin and the onyx stone” (Gen. 2:11-12).
The garden was God’s provision. God did the planting,
and Adam and Eve only needed to manage what God had
given them. The gold, resin and onyx were extra—symbols of
God’s prosperity. They had no need for gold, resin and onyx
in the garden, but in the ancient, post-garden world where
Adam and Eve would live the remainder of their lives, the
three costly items were widely used for currency. And Genesis
stresses that the gold of that land was good.
We all know the end of that bond between God and the
first couple: broken by their disobedience and
mismanagement of what God had given to them. God gave
them the garden to manage. They disobeyed the owner’s
instructions, thus mismanaging what they were given—
leading to their expulsion out of the garden. When you
42
manage what God has given you, it will increase. When you
mismanage it, you will lose it (See Matthew 25:14-30).
After Adam and Eve’s disobedience, Genesis 3:8 states,
“And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the
garden in the cool [afternoon breeze] of the day, so the man
and his wife hid and kept themselves hidden from
the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.”
God then calls to Adam by name. The stories that follow in
Genesis show that God and man still talked, but the
relationship became increasingly distant as humanity’s
disobedience increased.
Throughout the remainder of the Bible, in the midst of a
fallen humanity, we see individual people who built a bond
with God, received wisdom and direction from God, and
prospered financially. Here are a few of the stories:

Abraham
Abraham is an early example of wealth connected to the
blessing of God. Appointed to become the first patriarch of the
chosen people, in Genesis 24:35, Abraham’s servant says of
his master, “GOD has blessed my master—he’s a great
man; GOD has given him sheep and cattle, silver and gold,
servants and maidservants, camels and donkeys.”
Abraham was not a perfect man. He vacillated in his faith
at times, and he notoriously lied about his relationship to his
wife Sarah twice. But, despite his character issues, he had a
bond with God, and He obeyed God. Abraham’s life was an
ongoing conversation with God, from God’s call for him to
leave his home to venture to a land of promise that God would
give him through to him receiving a visit by the Lord in his
tent.
Abraham’s obedience to God cost Him something. When
God told him to pack up and relocate, he was seventy-five

43
years old. Imagine, in your old age, leaving the place you lived
your whole life—your family, church, house, money,
employment—to go to a strange and unfamiliar place.
The quality of Abraham’s bond with God is best seen in
Genesis chapter 18 during God’s visit to Abraham’s tent.
“GOD appeared to Abraham at the Oaks of Mamre while he
was sitting at the entrance of his tent. It was the hottest part
of the day. He looked up and saw three men standing. He ran
from his tent to greet them and bowed before them” (Gen.
18:1-2). Abraham recognized that God was in the group that
stopped by his tent. He showed proper honor by bowing, and
then called for a meal to be prepared for the guests.
In the course of the visit, God talks to Abraham about
Sarah’s soon pregnancy, and then speaks about His plans to
destroy the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because of their
wickedness. Genesis 18:22 says, “The men set out for Sodom,
but Abraham stood in GOD’s path, blocking his way.”
Abraham then began to challenge God; would He destroy the
cities if there were righteous people still living there.
Abraham’s bond with the God of the universe involved
dialogue with Him about what was going to happen, and what
needed to happen. It was a bond based in honor, yet a trust
that allowed him to challenge God in a direct way when he saw
potential injustice. Abraham fought to free Lot, and was
willing to sacrifice his son at God’s request. And, despite
Abraham’s issues, God says to Abraham, “I’ll make you a great
nation and bless you. I’ll make you famous; you’ll be a
blessing. I’ll bless those who bless you; those who curse you
I’ll curse. All the families of the Earth will be blessed through
you” (Gen. 12:2-3).
Note Genesis 12:3, “All the families of the Earth will be
blessed through you.” For those of you wondering how your
business success and wealth accumulation relate to your
relationship with God and His kingdom, that small verse

44
contains your answer. God’s purpose for Abraham was to
bless and prosper him, to even make him famous. But the
purpose was so that God’s blessings through Abraham would
be passed on to others. In all your business success, God wants
His blessings to you to extend to others through you.
God wants to build a bond with you, where He can give
you wisdom, and direction in your business pursuits—leading
to success and prosperity. And the end game is that your
prosperity will finance the work of the Kingdom: missions and
ministries that feed and clothe, teach and preach, manifesting
God’s kingdom on this earth.
Abraham’s son Isaac walked in the same blessings as his
father. Genesis 26:12-13 says, “Isaac planted crops in that land
and took in a huge harvest. GOD blessed him. The man got
richer and richer by the day until he was very wealthy. He
accumulated flocks and herds and many, many servants.”
And, the blessings continued through to Isaac’s son Jacob,
who later became Israel.
Both Abraham and Isaac were rich and loved and
honored God. God blessed them because their number one
priority was God Himself and the kingdom. And their bond
with God was deep enough that they talked to God, and even
negotiated with Him. It’s OK for you to be financially blessed,
as long as the money doesn’t replace the number one focus of
Him and His kingdom. Money is neither wrong or evil, and it
doesn’t have to pull you away from a godly life. As a matter of
your priorities, you can put your house, car, work, spouse or
children before God. Yes, money can replace God in your life—
the same as all those other things I just mentioned.
If money is above God in your life, all of your trust will
be in your ability to make money, and in the money you
make—if you have enough to support your family you are OK;
if the money is short, you freak out. If money is before God,
then money is your God. And, when money is your God it will

45
control every decision you make in life. You will make
decisions based on money, not based on what God is asking
you to do. It will result in a life that feels empty, lonely, fearful,
lacking peace.
When God is number one, then money doesn’t control
you—you own it. If money is your god, you have an issue that
you need to deal with. You need to make a shift and begin to
see money as a resource to take care of God’s kingdom, and
then allow God’s kingdom to take care of you.

Joseph, Daniel And Moses

Throughout the Old Testament there are many who
walked with God, and God blessed with wealth. From them,
we can learn much.
Joseph, the one with the multi-colored coat and jealous
brothers, experienced a series of ups and downs financially, in
the end becoming a foremost ruler in Egypt. Joseph’s life was
walked by faith, and not by the circumstances he saw and
experienced. He had a dream from God that gave him the
needed focus and hope to move forward expectantly, believing
the dream would be a reality. His life teaches us the
importance of walking in integrity and God’s favor. That when
we do what is right despite devastating circumstances, deceit
and temptation, God will favor us.
My personal story reflects that. Go back and read the first
chapter of this book to see how low my circumstances had
taken me. It is tempting to ditch integrity before God when
things aren’t going well. Temptations to take shortcuts to get
yourself back on your feet will abound. But, Proverbs 11:3
says, “The integrity of the honest keeps them on track; the
deviousness of crooks brings them to ruin.”
I made a decision to walk by faith and the promises of
God through His Word and Spirit, instead of walking by what

46
my natural eyes saw. When you walk based on what you see
with your natural eyes, your life will be turned upside down
quickly—not for the good! True faith is walking based on
God’s promises, resting in Him, knowing that His promises
are already complete—even if you can’t see them with your
physical eyes.
Joseph’s integrity kept him on track in his life. It had ups
and downs and what appeared like detours and defeats. But
his integrity through every season in his life brought God’s
favor, and caused him to finish in a position of influence and
wealth where he was ultimately able to help his people during
a famine.
Daniel was another prophet who stood in his integrity
before God in the face of an autocratic pagan king. Daniel had
position and perks available to him, but his first allegiance
was to his God. In the end of his story, the king promoted him
to third-in-charge of the kingdom, and clothed him in the
trappings of wealth: a purple robe and gold chain.
Moses started out as the baby of a poor Hebrew slave.
Taken in by Pharaoh’s daughter after his mother entrusted
him to the Lord, Moses is raised in the wealth and comforts of
the palace. Like the example of Abraham, Moses’ blessings
had a greater purpose. He was in the right place at the right
time, with the right access to Pharaoh to lead his people out of
400 years of slavery in Egypt.
Each of those Bible characters had a bond with God: they
conversed with God regularly. Go back and read some of the
Bible stories. The conversations with God were not
monologues, but honest dialogues. As they conversed with
God, they obeyed His direction, using their position and
prosperity to fulfill God’s greater purposes for their families
and peoples.

47
Solomon
Solomon was a complicated person in Bible history. He
made many mistakes during his life, later becoming unfaithful
to the Lord. But he is known for his great wealth. Solomon had
a bond with God. He didn’t just believe that God existed. He
didn’t just go do religious duty at the temple, he knew how to
pray to God. And he understood his dependence on God
enough to ask God for wisdom.
Many believe and teach that Solomon was blessed
financially because he asked for wisdom. I don’t believe that
was the reason. When we are told in Matthew 6:33 to seek the
kingdom of God first, and hunger and thirst after
righteousness, it means we seek after God and who He is. It
means we have a passion and priority for the kingdom.
Secular seminars often state that reaching a goal means
it needs to be a passion and obsession. When you are obsessed
with something, you are %100 in for that thing: you eat, sleep,
dream about that goal. God’s promise to add to our lives
wealth and success is based on Him being our priority, our
obsession—the One we hunger and thirst for.
If you read in I Kings 3:11-14, you will see that God asked
Solomon what He could give him. Solomon asked for wisdom
to lead God’s people—the purpose God had on his life.
Solomon’s priority was to do what God wanted, his priority
was the kingdom. And because of Solomon’s proper focus on
what God wanted, God added great wealth to his life.
In Mark 10:29-30, Jesus said, “I assure you and most
solemnly say to you, there is no one who has given up a house
or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms,
for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, who will not receive a
hundred times as much now in the present age—houses and
brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms—
along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.”

48
We are certainly called to love the people and blessings
God places in our lives. But Jesus is stressing what Solomon
knew, that the priority must be the kingdom. And when
kingdom is number one, all those other things become
secondary. And when you focus on the kingdom, and make
Him number one, He blesses with a hundred-fold return.
There is always a blessing in giving. But, the hundred-
fold return is guaranteed to the person whose priority,
passion, obsession, hunger and thirst is for the kingdom of
God. Solomon knew he had a purpose on his life. He went to
God acknowledging his call as king to lead the people—it was
his kingdom purpose. He asked God for the wisdom to fulfill
the purpose that God had on his life. His focus was on pleasing
the Father by faithfully leading His people; and, God blessed
him.
As Solomon asked from God, He gave him wisdom.
Wisdom gave Solomon the ability to acquire vast amounts of
wealth. Unfortunately, his love for foreign women eventually
led him to the worship of false gods. God had instructed him
on who he shouldn’t hang out with. He disobeyed, eventually
walking away from God.

Walking With God

In the Bible, a bond with God is sometimes referred to as

walking with God. Genesis 5:24 says, “Enoch walked steadily
with God. And then one day he was simply gone: God took
him.” Enoch’s bond with God was steady and close, so much
that he didn’t die—like all the millions of other humans in
history. Hebrews 11:5 says that Enoch pleased God so much
that he didn’t see death, he was just translated out of this
world into God’s presence.

49
Genesis 6:9 says, “Noah was a good man, a man of
integrity in his community. Noah walked with God.” Through
his bond with God, Noah received detailed instructions on
how to construct, furnish and fill the ark. He also prospered
and was wealthy due to his relationship with God. There is no
way Noah could have financed the building of the ark over
many decades, and the accumulation of pairs of all the known
animals for the ark, and the amassing of supplies needed to
sustain his family and feed the animals for their months on
the ark without some serious financing.
An often-quoted verse from Micah 6:8 states, “He hath
shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD
require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with thy God?” (KJV). Walk with God. Humbly build
a bond with Him. God will give you the instructions you need
to build or expand your business, as long as you are habitually
walking with Him. And, He can use your life and prosperity to
bless multitudes of others, and expand His kingdom on this
earth!

Reflection Questions:
What examples does the Bible give of the
connection between a bond with God and provision,
prosperity and wealth?

What was the greater purpose God had for

blessing Abraham financially?

What do the examples from the Bible show us

about the need for trust and integrity as we build a
bond with God?

What does it mean to “walk with God”?

Chapter Five

The Power Of Habit

As I’ve studied the lives of successful, wealthy persons,

I’ve recognized that there are common factors evident in each
of their lives. One of the factors is their habits. The successful
or wealthy person has the same twenty-four hours in a day
that every other person alive on earth enjoys. So, it isn’t that
they have more of the basic commodity of time than you or I,
it is how they spend their time. Their habits and routines are
different, their goals are more defined, their dreams are
crystal clear, and they never stop until their goals are
achieved.
The successful and wealthy develop these habits daily,
and they don’t stop until they have reached their desired
outcome. They don’t allow the distractions around them—
what they hear or see—to dissipate their commitment to their
goal. Most importantly, they always keep their ‘why’ in front
of them.
I struggled at first when I began to understand the power
of the bond with God. One day I would be in His presence and
get excited but then miss the following three or four days.
Unfortunately, if you are not consistent in what you do it is
easy to take a detour, or let a distraction get the best of you.
Before you know it, you are a few steps behind instead of a few
steps forward.
Experts say it takes anywhere from twenty-one to forty
days to create a habit. In that time frame, if you are serious
about creating a habit, you can’t allow one excuse, not one
missed day, not one “I didn’t feel like it!” Nothing! Within that

53
twenty-one to forty days you need to stay consistent,
committed, and determined.
If you want to develop a bond with God you have to
create an everyday habit, a routine, something you will do
daily, that little by little will get you closer to your desired
outcome. Most people have habits—what are yours? Brushing
your teeth, eating at certain times, showering, work. Those
habits developed over time and often included someone
teaching you what to do.
If you want to create an extraordinary bond with God,
and be so deeply connected with Him that you hear the Holy
Spirit’s voice, receiving the guidance you need in your life to
become wealthy and financially free, you’re going to have to
develop this thing called, ‘Habit’.
Why do I believe in getting up and into God’s presence at
the same time every day? It’s because I love God and His
Word, want to honor Him, and out of my gratitude develop a
habit. When I started to train myself to wake up at a certain
time each morning, before I knew it, my internal alarm clock
began to wake me up before my physical alarm clock. That is
when your habit becomes consistent! I want you to develop a
habit that requires no thought process, it literally becomes
second nature to you.
How many of you right now, reading this book, would
have to remind yourself to pray? I can guarantee a lot more
people than you would think struggle with this. However, once
you develop a habit, you begin to wake up and cannot give God
the glory or start your day without praying.
For all my coffee drinkers, imagine starting your day
without that fresh, hot, amazing smell of coffee in the
morning. Would that determine how happy or how grumpy
you are that morning? Imagine not starting your morning
without God? How would your mood be throughout the day?

54
Creating A Habit
Most of us reading this book have created habits that we
don’t like or need in our life. So how do we create a new habit
that we like? Hebrews 11:6 says, “It’s impossible to please God
apart from faith.” It also talks later on in that chapter that,
those who diligently seek Him will be rewarded. God will
reward you for getting in His presence every day. Creating a
habit and seeking His presence is going to give you the ability
to hear His voice.
A great phrase that describes how to develop a habit is,
“same time, same place, every day.” People often make
commitments to themselves, but because they’re unclear of
their commitment they can’t fulfill their commitment. At this
point people say I’m going to get in His presence for one hour
every day, then they pray for five minutes and wonder what to
do next.
We want to develop not only a habit but I want to show
you the things you need to do inside of the time that you spend
with God? Once you understand this you then can create a
habit. If we put a time frame on it and say you should be in the
presence of God for one hour a day in the morning, some
people might say, “Mario, how will I do that? I have all these
things in my life that I have to do.”
The first thing I say to that is how bad do you want it?
Everybody desires success but only a few want to work for it.
If you are going to spend an hour with God, be specific with
how you will spend the time. Write down what the hour
should look like. What do you want to accomplish in that
hour? What things do you need to bring to God in that hour?
For those first twenty-one days you need to discipline
yourself. The discipline is part of the ‘why,’ because when you
don’t want to get out of bed to pray in the morning, you need
to go back to your ‘why’. Why are you doing this? Now you

55
realize the reason your ‘why’ has to be so powerful, when
you’re trying to develop something that you do every single
day it’s important to keep yourself inspired as to the reason
you are doing it.
There are some people who say they want to go to the
gym, but for some reason their car only drives in that direction
once in a blue moon. They will go for a week, then take off a
few days, they will go again for fifteen days then take off for a
month going into “rest” mode from working too hard! But
then there is that person who is dedicated to the gym,
dedicated to seeing their body transformed because they have
an underlying ‘why’ driving them. Do you know anyone like
these two types of people?
Think about your life right now? Think about doing the
same thing every day, think about a place that you would like
to see change. Most of you reading this book would like to see
a change in your finances. In what financial areas would you
be in a better place now if you had developed good habits the
past ten years? Think about that for a second. What did you
come up with?
Some of you said that you should have put more money
in your 401k, instead of buying that new car. Or if you didn’t
buy that five-dollar Starbucks coffee every morning, you
might have an additional twenty-thousand dollars in your
savings account. Some of you know if you were disciplined to
put fifty dollars in your savings account every day, you would
be a lot further along than you currently are. Anybody can find
habits that you should have done but didn’t do, and if you had
done those specific things, then you would be in a different
place financially.
Some of us think that there will be a day where God will
rain money out of the sky for us. Maybe for you He will do
that. However, in most cases, it’s about making small shifts in

56
your everyday habits where you will see the most change! The
only way to get money is to change habits.
Many people create habits without getting in the
presence of God every day. As you read this book, you have
many habits in your life that have nothing to do with spending
time with God. I’m interested in the right habits. I’m
interested in doing the things that God wants me to do and
living the life that God wants me to live. if you’re like me, the
only way I know to do that is to spend time with the Father
and get instructions from Him for the things that I need to do.
I once saw a seven-year-old boy who was a great wrestler
in New York, and he had no legs. On the back of his shirt, it
said, “No excuses”. What’s your excuse? The only reason why
you won’t follow through with this challenge and with your
commitment is that you’ll find a reason not to, you will find
your own excuses. There are two options, find a reason why
you must do it or find a reason why you must not do it. If the
reason of why you must do it is more power, then you’ll stick
with it and push through the difficulties. I once heard a very
wise man say this, “Excuses only satisfy those who make
them.”

Commitment
A big part of developing a habit in your life is to create a
routine. Decide the time and the place you will meet with God.
Find a location similar to where Jesus prayed: a secluded spot
where you can be alone and uninterrupted. A secluded spot
doesn’t need to be out in the woods. It can be that unused
bedroom or corner of a basement. I have an office in my house
where I know I can close the door and my wife and son will get
the idea that I want to be alone.

57
Get in His presence every day at the same time, same
place—routine. We develop other routines in life without even
thinking about them. I have a routine for showering, combing
my hair, brushing my teeth, and getting dressed. I have
routines for when I eat, when I go to bed. I have routines
around my church and business commitments. Over time the
routines become habits.
I’ve learned to get in the presence of God every single
day. I’ve learned to develop a consistency with God, having a
conversation with Him, listening to Him and getting advice
from Him. When our business wasn’t doing well, He gave me
the ideas to help save and develop our business, eventually
leading to us being able to sell it. I was in the presence of God
every day, not just on my knees praying to Him in a crisis time.
To develop the routines that become habits, you have to
be committed. People easily say, “I’m committed”. It’s similar
to those New Year’s resolutions. Walk into any gym the first
couple weeks of January and it will be packed. People say
they’re committed to a certain new activity or lifestyle change,
but fast forward a few months later and that commitment
diminishes, the excuses increase and the dedication to hard
work starts to dissipate until it dissolves into nothing.
People find excuses why they shouldn’t go to the gym.
There is something in their brain telling them that even
though they committed to this very thing, they can walk away
from it and its okay! To develop a bond with God, you have to
be committed no matter what happens, no matter how you
feel, no matter what you’re experiencing in life, no matter
what people say, no matter what your thoughts tell you—stay
committed to see this out for the rest of your life.
Many people make commitments and walk away from
them because they have not developed a strong ‘why’. There is
nothing persuading them to keep going. Some don’t know how
to decide: there will be a lot of questions, doubts and concerns,

58
but little action. I’ve taught many people how to invest in real
estate. In the beginning, people often say that they are fully
committed, but in the next sentence they say, “Man, I hope
this works”. Essentially, they have already set themselves up
for failure.
When people say they’re committed but they’re already
finding reasons why it may not work and what’s going to go
wrong, I literally have to stop them and say, “No, there’s only
one way and option and that’s to make it happen, there is NO
plan B!” Commit to making it happen, commit to getting to a
place where you know that you’re so close to God, that no
matter what happens you are going to move forward on your
original commitment and not let distractions pull you away
from your goal.
I taught people how to invest in real estate and make
large returns on their money, but almost all my students had
internal conflicts. They were saying one thing with their
mouth but their heart was saying something else. They were
thinking one thing in their mind, and seeing their end goal but
when they checked their heart, their belief system was telling
them something totally different. Make a commitment and
stay with your commitment until your desired outcome is
achieved.
Commit to developing the routines and habits in your life
that will make time with God the number one priority in your
life. The resultant bond that you develop with Him will
transform your life, your relationship, and give you the
wisdom and direction you need to succeed in every business
and entrepreneurial venture that you put your hand to!
As you make the commitment to spend time with God,
you are not trying to get something from God, instead
positioning yourself to be able to handle what He tells you to
do. As you develop a habit of spending time with Him, you will
begin to recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit who will instruct

59
you in the way you should go. When your mom calls you long-
distance, you recognize her voice because you spent time
together. The more time you spend with Him, the clearer His
voice becomes, and you develop an unwavering faith and
confidence in Him.

Reflection Questions:

What financial changes do you want in your life

that require you to develop new habits? What are the
habits?

The phrase describing a habit is “same time,

same place, every day”. What is a time and place that
works for you to meet with God each day?

What routines can you establish that will ensure

your success in building a bond with God?

How committed are you to building a bond with

God? Hint, go back and review your ‘why’.

Chapter Six

Building The Bond

“Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving.

And His courts with praise.” Psalm 100:4

When you wake up, before you check your email, use
your phone or spend time with family, dedicate the first
precious moments of your morning to God and allow Him to
direct the remainder of your day. Find a quiet place that you
can spend time with God without distractions.
During this bonding process I came up with seven
different activities that I do in my daily time with God.

One: Praise and Worship

Psalm 100 lays out the steps for entering the presence of
God with worship and praise. It talks about God’s character,
our relationship to Him, and the attitude and activities we
should have when entering His presence.

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.

2 Serve the Lord with gladness and delight;
Come before His presence with joyful singing.
3 Know and fully recognize with gratitude that the
Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, not
we ourselves [and we are His].
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
4 Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving.
And His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, bless and praise His name.
63
5 For the Lord is good;
His mercy and lovingkindness are everlasting,
His faithfulness [endures] to all generations.

Verse five speaks of His character as good, full of mercy

and lovingkindness, and faithful. Verse three defines our
relationship to Him; He is God alone, He created us and we
are His people, His sheep. (He is the Good Shepherd!)
In response to who He is and our relationship to Him,
the attitude and activities we are to display include;
1. Attitude of gratitude, (v.3),
2. Joy, “shout joyfully to the Lord” (v.1), “joyful
singing” (v.2),
3. Thanksgiving and praise, “Enter His gates with a
song of thanksgiving” (v.4), “Be thankful” (v.4). I’ll
talk more about thanksgiving in the next section.
4. Praise and worship, (v.4), which includes speaking
and singing.

Psalm 100 it is clear that worshipping God involves us

doing or saying something. I can think about God, but that is
what is called meditation. If I worship and praise Him, I am
opening my mouth speaking good things about Him and who
He is in my life, or I am singing to Him.
Psalm 100:2, “Come before His presence with joyful
singing” is translated in the Message Bible as “sing yourselves
into His presence.” That’s a profound spiritual truth! Psalm
22:3 says, “But You are holy, O You who are enthroned in [the
holy place where] the praises of Israel [are offered].” God is
enthroned, or dwells in the midst of the praises of His people.
When I start my time with Him with worship, I am honoring
Him for who He is and His Spirit comes and rests on me in a
special way. I literally sing my way into His presence.

64
One excuse people often give for not praising or
worshipping is: I can’t sing, or I’m not comfortable singing out
loud. Another Bible version of Psalm 100:1 tells us to “Make a
joyful noise unto the Lord” (KJV). You may not sing great, but
you can make a joyful noise. God is not interested in you
having perfect pitch or singing on beat, or even knowing the
right words to the song. He is pleased when our hearts
overflow with gratitude and the praise and worship is
expressed through our lips.
Another excuse people give for not worshipping is: I
don’t feel like it, there are too many issues happening in my
life right now. The answer to this excuse is found in Psalm
34:3, “O magnify the LORD with me, and let us lift up His
name together.” When I lift up and magnify His name in
worship, I am focusing on His greatness and power. When you
use a magnifying glass, you make the object of your attention
look bigger in your eyes. It’s not that the object becomes
larger, but to your perspective it appears larger. As I magnify
Him, who He is becomes greater in my eyes than who I am
and the issues I am dealing with in my current circumstances.
Another way to create an atmosphere of worship and
praise is to make a play list of worship music and play it in the
background during your time with God. You can learn the
songs and sing along, or meditate on the lyrics and soak in the
presence of God’s Spirit.
Start your time with God in worship and praise. It puts
things in proper perspective and sets the atmosphere for the
rest of your bonding time with God. Your focus is placed on
who He is, not on your issues and problems. And, as you
worship—focusing on His goodness and greatness alone (not
on your issues or petitions), His Spirit comes and dwells in the
room with you. This time is to solely focus on Him and praise
Him for who He is.

65
Two: Be Thankful
Psalm 100 also speaks about thanking God. As an
extension of your worship and praise, write down ten-twenty
things that you are thankful for and thank Him every day. For
example, you have food on your table one more day. You may
take that for granted, but there are tens of millions of people
who have little to nothing to eat, or only get to eat once every
couple days. Millions would be very thankful for what we take
for granted and are often ungrateful for. Thank God!
Thank Him for both the large things in your life and the
small. Review the list every day and update it as you are aware
of more things that you are thankful for: your health, His
provision, your family, and the roof over your head. As you
begin to give Him thanks an attitude change happens similar
to when you magnify the Lord. You begin to focus on what you
have and become more aware of the blessings around you, and
less conscious of any lack in your life.
I Thessalonians 5:18 says, “In every situation [no matter
what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give
thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ
Jesus.” It takes discipline to give thanks in every situation.
Some days I don’t feel thankful, other days it seems like my
world is spinning out of control. But even in the worst of days,
there is always something to be grateful for—if you are
disciplined enough to look.
Giving thanks is not just an optional exercise for a few
people—it is the will of God for us all. I like how the Amplified
version of the Bible adds the [no matter what the
circumstances]. God wants us to understand the power of
gratitude. That we can give thanks to God when the sun is
shining or its raining, when we feel thankful and when we
don’t feel like giving thanks.

66
Philippians 4:6-7 states, “Do not be anxious or worried
about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and
situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue
to make your [specific] requests known to God. 7 And the
peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that
peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace
which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in
Christ Jesus [is yours].”

Be Thankful For Future Blessings

Three years ago, God challenged me to write down four
things I was thankful for that had not happened yet. Things
that I could thank Him for in advance. For example, you make
ten dollars an hour but really want to be at twelve dollars an
hour. Tell God what you need and make a commitment to
thank Him for your needed raise. Be specific with the request
and put a date on it when you need it to happen. Then keep
proclaiming, “I’m making twelve dollars an hour,” and thank
Him every day for it.
Over time, I developed a ninety-day list of things I am
thankful for in advance. For one of the items on the list I
wrote, “Father, thank you, over the next three months I’m
going to purchase ten properties.” I thanked Him every day
for giving me the wisdom and knowledge and putting the right
people in my path and bringing me to the right deals.
I encourage you to find four things that you want to see
God do for you over the next ninety days. If you are not sure
what to add to your list, I suggest something practical and
measurable dealing with your finances. Be specific, put a date
on it, and start thanking Him every day in advance for those
things happening.
Use your faith but don’t overextend yourself. For
example, if you make ten dollars an hour, don’t pray, “Thank
you Father, that in the next ninety days I’ll be a billionaire.”

67
I’m not saying you can’t stretch yourself, but you need to pick
something that you believe could happen. Work with your
faith. If you’re on ten dollars an hour, shoot for twelve or
fifteen dollars an hour. Don’t try for something that you doubt
in your heart will ever happen.

Three: Talk To Him

After you spend time in worship, praise and
thanksgiving, spend time in conversation with Him. Talk to
Him about what is happening in your life. What do you want
to see changed in your circumstances? What is going wrong at
home, on the job, in your relationships, your health? Ask Him
specific questions about why certain things are transpiring in
your life. Tell Him your concerns.
He already knows what you need but is waiting for you
to come to Him and ask. James 4:2 says, “You do not have
because you do not ask [it of God].” God knows what you need,
and could just give it to you. Because He desires a bond with
you, He waits for you to come to Him and ask. My bond with
God has grown exponentially as I have talked to Him about
things I needed or issues I deal with, and I see Him faithfully
provide or give the wisdom or direction I need for specific
situations.
Let Him lead you in your conversation. Sometimes you
may need to ask His forgiveness for a sin or failure. Sometimes
you will spend the time talking to Him about your family, your
business or the country. Let Him know what is on your heart:
your hopes, fears, joys and desires.
I often spend about thirty minutes of my hour with God
in prayer. There might be times where you spend the whole
hour. There are times when I get into conversation with God
and He tells me to use my imagination today or to confess the
word of God.

68
This isn’t about being religious; I’m just giving you a
reference point and a guideline of what’s worked for me. In
my time with Him, I am spirit led. That means God can
interrupt my schedule and flow. Listen to the promptings of
the Holy Spirit as He tells you what to do. If He tells you
something different than what I’ve outlined here, just go with
it. Once the spirit is done leading you in your prayer time, go
back to where you left off praying.

Normal Conversation

When I got the revelation why I should spend time with

Him, and actually started getting into His presence every day,
I asked myself, “God, how do I pray to you?” “What’s the right
thing to say? What are the right questions to ask?” “Do I pray
one day for people, then the next I pray for my family, then
one day pray for me? Should I pray for certain people every
day?”
This was new for me. Remember, from age sixteen to
twenty-three, I copied other person’s prayers and prayer
styles attempting to look and sound “religious.” I was asking
Him these religious questions like everything is supposed to
be perfect and in order, and one day He responded:
“Well, how do you have a conversation with your mom?”
I replied, “What do you mean Lord?”
He said, “When you talk to your mom what do you do?”
I said,” I just talk.”
He said, “You just talk? That’s all I desire from my people
is to just have a conversation with me, just talk to me and be
real with me, be real with what you really want to ask me and
what you really want to say.”

I began to think about how I would talk to my mom when

something was bothering me. As a good parent, would she get

69
mad, crazy and upset with me? Not my mom! I knew she
would let me rant and rave for a while, then ask me why I feel
the way I do.
God is my Father—I can have normal conversation with
Him. He wants me to talk and be real and speak my heart so
the He can help me deal with what I am experiencing. God is
not interested in me being religious, feeling like I have to say
certain things while not being real and not speaking my heart.
We act that way because we feel He is going to judge or punish
us if we are honest with Him. Those are wrong beliefs.
Sometimes I have felt like my relationship with Him was
not progressing. I told Him, “Father I’m upset with you, you
know why? Because I have a real relationship with you but I
feel stuck!” And, He didn’t reject me, condemn me, or judge
me for my honesty. In fact, my honesty opened the door for
Him to speak to me and direct me in ways that wouldn’t have
happened if I continued to be fake.

Limiting Beliefs

Years ago, my son used to watch a cartoon where they

put a monkey inside a 1x1x1-foot box. The monkey jumped
around like crazy inside the box until someone let Him out, or
he would bust the nails off the corners of the box to break out.
This character’s name was Wild Mike. When Wild Mike finally
came out of that box he felt free. While he was in that box he
felt constricted, unable to move, boxed in, confined. All Wild
Mike wanted to do was get free.
There was a point in my life where I felt like I was Wild
Mike jumping around and trying to get out of that box. The
box I was confined in was the wrong beliefs that people were
projecting on me—that I didn’t know how to pray, that If I
asked the wrong thing God would be mad at me, if I raised my

70
voice and showed Him I was upset or angry he was going to
punish me.
I remember there being things that I really felt deep
down inside that I’ve never said because I felt like He would
be mad at me and punish me or judge me or He would take
something away from me. I believed that when He was
blessing me financially if I said something wrong to Him He
would take His blessings away from me. What limiting beliefs!
Imagine you serve the most caring, loving, merciful,
gracious God yet think you need to walk on eggshells around
Him, otherwise he is going to punish you. That is not what
God wants! His only desire is to be believed, God just wants
you to talk to Him, trust Him, give Him glory when He blesses
your life. He wants to know you and He wants you to know
Him!
When God said to me, “Mario not only do I want you to
be free from this, but I want my people to be free from the
same way of thinking. I want my people to have normal
conversations with me and not feel like they can’t say what
they really want to say that’s on their heart.” Be 100%
authentic with Him. There’s no special way that I pray, there’s
not a special way that I say things, I say what it is that’s on my
heart. I pray for the people that are in my heart. I talk to God
the way I would talk to you in normal conversation.
Imagine if you got in the presence of God today and told
Him truthfully what was in your heart? What if you said, “I’m
really upset that I’m struggling financially. I’m really upset
with you because I feel like I shouldn’t be struggling, why is
this happening to me God?” Imagine you came to God poured
your heart out and asked Him, “Father, show me why I am
going through these things. What do I need to change in my
life right now?” Talk to Him as if He’s standing right in front
of you answering your questions.

71
Four: Petition God
Write down what you are asking God to do in your life. Find
some scripture passages to back up your request, and present
your case before Him: “Father, you say in Malachi 3:10 that if I
tithe you would open the windows of heaven and pour me out a
blessing.” Your ability to approach the Father boldly comes
through your relationship with Jesus.
I John 2:1 speaks of Jesus being our advocate with the
Father. Advocate is a legal term that is similar to a lawyer. An
advocate offers counsel, support, and speaks on our behalf. You
can boldly approach the Father knowing you have the best legal
support at your side.
Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious or worried
about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and
situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue
to make your [specific] requests known to God.” Let God know
specifically what you need and want. Argue your case before
Him like you would a judge.

Five: Listen
Communication with God is an interactive conversation,
not a monologue. Forming a bond with God will not happen if
you do all the talking. You need to honestly express your
thoughts and heart to Him, but also allow Him to speak back
to you. To do that involves what is perhaps one of the most
difficult disciplines: listening.
As you ask God questions, learn to let your guard down,
and leave room for God to speak to you, minister to you and
respond to your needs. He wants to give you specific
directions and wisdom for the situations and issues you are
dealing with. Trust Him! He will guide you through each
instruction given to you!
72
God will speak to you in a number of different ways as
you listen for Him. One is through the Bible. He will direct you
to a passage of scripture that will speak to your circumstances,
or while you are reading the Bible, a passage will seem to jump
off the pages—the exact word you need. Another way God
speaks is through His Spirit with an impression in your
human spirit or image in your mind.
When He tells you something, don’t judge it. If you do,
you may discount what He is saying because it doesn’t make
sense to your natural mind. As the God who sees all and knows
all, He has a better perspective on your life than you, and will
direct you according to His wisdom. Allow Him to work in
your life.
A third way God will speak to you is through other
people. He will lead people into your life that might make you
feel uncomfortable at first, but they will challenge your beliefs
for the better! Kind of like I’m challenging your beliefs right
now, revealing truth to you.
It’s difficult when you’ve been taught something your
entire life, and all of a sudden, a young guy comes along
teaching something different. Your beliefs are challenged as
new truth is revealed to you. Speak with Him and trust in Him.
And, listen for God’s voice and direction through that other
person, instead of fighting it. It takes a great deal of humility
to open your heart and listen to direction from God that is
unfamiliar.
Imagine having a conversation with Him as if you were
talking to your earthly father or mother sitting directly in front
of you. How would you talk to them, what questions would
you ask, and most importantly how would you receive what
they have to say back to you?
God desires you to have a normal conversation with Him
as if he was sitting across from you and you were asking Him
questions and telling Him how you really feel. When you tell

73
Him how you really feel. It will free you, the weight will be
lifted off of you, you will be able to breathe lighter and not
worry about anything.
Not only will you feel free, but you will begin to create a
real bond with God. Get away from your limiting beliefs, ask
the Lord to take your current belief system and infiltrate it
with His thoughts, ask Him to think like Him, see things the
way He sees them, talk like Him, care for people the way He
does. I sit in His presence to learn from Him, listen to Him
and have Him speak to me. It is a benefit to me to be in the
presence of God.

Six: Faith Statements

The power of our confession is that it is based on faith
statements: scriptures and scriptural truth that is applied to
our lives.
Faith statements are made to increase your level of faith
in any given area. For example, if you need to increase your
level of faith for your finances, you need to find scriptures
dealing with finances and repeat them morning and evening.
God’s Word is called a spiritual sword. When doubts flood
your mind, the Word is your weapon to fight back against the
enemy’s lies and discouragement. Even Jesus when He was
tempted in the wilderness, resisted the temptations by
speaking the Word of God. If Jesus is our example, we must
do the same thing.
I wrote out statements using the Word of God to increase
your faith for finances. You will find them in the appendix at
the back of this book. Speak the thirty financial scriptures
daily. Read, and meditate on each scripture, then personalize
it to your life as you speak the truth over your life.
For example, Proverbs 22:29 says, “Do you see a man
skillful and experienced in his work? He will stand [in honor]

74
before kings; He will not stand before obscure men.”
Personalize it to yourself, “I am a skillful and experienced in
my Business! I Stand before kings and not before obscure
men.”
As you meditate on God’s Word, and confess that Word
over your life, you will see transformation in your thoughts, a
strengthening of your faith, and a greater release of God’s
blessings over your life.

Seven: Read The Word

(One Proverb A Day)
The Book of Proverbs is full of practical wisdom written
by Solomon. Proverbs 1:2-4 says that the purpose of the book
is that we would be able:

To know [skillful and godly] wisdom and

instruction; To discern and comprehend the
words of understanding and insight, To receive
instruction in wise behavior and the discipline of
wise thoughtfulness, Righteousness, justice, and
integrity; That prudence (good judgment, astute
common sense) may be given to the
naive or inexperienced [who are easily misled],
And knowledge and discretion (intelligent
discernment) to the youth.

There are a few clear advantages to reading Proverbs

expressed in those three verses: 1. We will know wisdom and
instruction; 2. We will discern and comprehend
understanding and insight, and; 3. We will be instructed in
behavior, thought, righteousness, justice and integrity.

75
The results will be that even the most naïve or
inexperienced due to age can gain common sense, knowledge
and discretion.
Conveniently, there are thirty-one Proverbs—one a day
for most months.

Eight: Meditate On The Word Of God

Using Your Imagination
One thing I do daily is meditate on the Word of God.
Joshua 1:8 says, that if you read and meditate on the word day
and night than YOU (key word) will make your way
prosperous. Reading and meditating are different. Meditating
on scripture means to think deeply about a passage you read,
usually in silence, focusing on the words, message and what
God is trying to speak to you (remember listening).
Most of us, in a normal day, read thousands of words on
signs, our phones, computer screens or written materials.
Most of what we read is forgotten by the end of a day. It takes
discipline and focus to take a passage from the Bible and really
think about the meaning and its application to your life.
There are a couple different ways to find a scripture
suitable for meditation. One, is to read a portion of scripture
each day. There are excellent programs that will help you read
through the Bible in a year. Usually, they have a few assigned
chapters in the Old Testament and New Testament for each
day. As you read through the Bible, you will be amazed at its
wisdom, encouraged by the stories of great men and women
of faith, and challenged by its eternal truths.
As you read, there will be verses or chapters that seem to
jump off the page. Reference those passages in a journal so
you can go back and further study them, and meditate on
them.

76
You can also find passages of scripture based on themes
by doing an internet search or using one of the online Bible
programs. For example, you have been dealing with anxiety
over your business. Sales are down and expenses are up. Even
though you’ve made it through other similar seasons, this time
it’s kept you up at night. Do a search for “anxiety in the Bible.”
It will bring up a number of websites with scriptures that deal
with that topic.
One of the scriptures I found for anxiety is Psalm 55:22,
“Cast your burden on the LORD [release it] and He will
sustain and uphold you; He will never allow the righteous to
be shaken (slip, fall, fail).” Think about what those words are
saying. You have a heavy burden. What does it look like for
you to really cast it on the Lord—so that you are not anxious
about the situation? Meditate on the promise He made that
not only will He sustain and hold you up, but you won’t be
shaken.
One reason I like to read the Amplified version of the
Bible is that it helps me meditate. For example, He promised
I won’t be shaken. The Amplified further explains that that
means I won’t slip, fall or fail! What does it look like in the
current difficult business climate for me to not slip, fall or fail?
As you meditate on a passage of scripture, there are times
you will need to do additional study on the passage or topic.
Again, do an internet search, or Bible software search on the
passage to find out what other believers say about it, or to
discover the meaning of the words in their original Hebrew or
Greek languages.
If you have not had much experience with the Bible, start
with some of the scripture passages I added in the appendix
under the thirty faith statements.
I like to use my imagination when I meditate on the
Word of God. For example, if I was worried about paying the
bills, I could pull up Philippians 4:19,

77
“And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every
need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” As I am
alone with God, thinking on that passage, imagining God
coming through on my behalf (provision coming into my bank
account, and the pile of bills shrinking in front of me) and
thanking Him for providing. Or, Psalm 1:3 says that as I am
planted in Him, whatever I do will prosper. So, I read that
scripture and see God using me in my business to prosper!
According to Joshua 1:8, many people are not
prosperous because they don’t meditate on the Word of God
day and night. I’ve given you some direction on how to
meditate on the Word. As you start out your mornings with
God, and meditate on scripture during that time, keep the
Word in your mouth and in front of your mind through the
day. When you feel the anxiety coming back, quote the
scriptures you read. As you meditate on His Word, it becomes
not only an encouragement for you, but a weapon against
discouragement.

Power of Confession and Imagination.

Meditation on the Word of God is closely linked to your
confession of the Word, and the use of your imagination. To
build expectation for what God can do in your life, find the
passages of scripture that apply to your current circumstances
or need, and speak those words over your life each day. Then
use your sanctified imagination to see the changes coming in
your now and your future.
Proverbs 23:7 states, “As a man thinketh in His heart, so
is he” (KJV). What are you thinking on in your heart?
Meditate on the Word of God that applies to your situation
daily. Use your imagination, begin to see yourself getting that
promotion, begin to see yourself meeting your future husband
or wife, begin to see yourself accomplishing all the goals you

78
desire to accomplish, and back it up with what God says, back
it up with His promises!
I have used the power of confession and my imagination
in my life to help me build a deeper bond with God. It has
strengthened my faith that despite the “reality” of the
circumstances in my life, God has promised me so much
greater!
As I shared earlier in the book, at age twenty-two I was
struggling financially. My car was repossessed, my house was
being foreclosed, and my wife was about to bring our baby boy
into this world. As a faithful tither I couldn’t understand why
this was all happening until one day God shared with me that
my confession was off.
As God taught me about the importance of a bond with
Him, He also began to show me the significance of confessing.
Romans 10:17 says, “So faith comes from hearing [what is
told], and what is heard comes by the [preaching of the]
message concerning Christ.” After hearing that from Him, I
began to feel so strongly about this book and specifically
teaching people how to build a bond with God just like He had
taught me! I also believe this is also where the financial
blessing comes from!
The only way that I was able to get out of that situation,
was to get in the presence of God every morning and night.
That is when I truly began to build my bond with God to where
we became best friends, like brothers! I needed faith in that
moment but the only way these things were going to happen
was by me speaking the Word of God and expecting my
desired outcome and meditating on His word!
One of my favorite scriptures in that time of my life and
still to this day is, Psalms 1:3 “Anything my hands will touch
shall prosper.” Stop and think of how powerful that is! God is
telling you that anything you put your hands to shall prosper.
The definition of prosperity is: To succeed, to be financially

79
successful! So why do people fail if that is what God promises
you? It’s because of their lack of confidence and their lack of
trust in what God wants to do for them!
I used my imagination and saw myself doing the things I
wanted to accomplish! My business began to prosper, my
relationships began to flourish. My wife and I have the best
marriage, she stood by my side faithfully in all we have ever
gone through. My relationship with my son is irreplaceable
and I owe God all the glory because without Him none of this
would be possible!
I imagined my businesses growing. I imagined that God
was blessing them astronomically. And, it was as if I were
watching God come straight down from heaven and literally
command the blessing before my eyes. I saw these things
unfold over and over again, watching my life just grow, and
prosper, and watching my businesses flourish, and multiply!
These were the things I saw in my imagination until God
began to bring them to pass in my life and my imagination
then became my reality!
Before you finish out your time with God, write down one
thing that you are expecting God to do today, and look for it
throughout the day. For example, Father, I am expecting
today that you will bring me a new client that has a house for
sale. Throughout the day, expect it so much that you are
looking for it. When you were a child and you knew your mom
or dad were coming home, you were at the window looking for
them. Have the same expectation, looking for the blessing to
show up in your life that day—look for it.

How to Build an unbreakable bond with God in

less than one hour a day!
For those of you ready to develop a bond with God, here
is a suggested breakdown of how much time to spend on each
of the seven activities I introduced in this chapter:

80
1. Praise & Worship—seven minutes.

2. Thankfulness—seven minutes.
a. Write ten things you are thankful that God
has blessed you with. Read them daily,
editing the list as desired.
b. Write four future things you are believing
God for during the next ninety days.
Include the end date for each item. Thank
Him they are done in advance daily.

3. Talk with God seven minutes, normal

conversation.

4. Petition God—seven minutes asking God for the

things you need. Back up your need with
Scripture. Present your need to Him. (Have your
Scriptures prepared before coming into His
presence.)

5. Listen to God for seven minutes (quiet, still and

without distractions), and write down what He
says.

6. Read the faith statements in the first person (Faith

statements are located in the appendix)—seven
minutes.

7. Read one chapter of Proverbs a day—seven

minutes.

8. Mediate on God’s Word by using your

81
imagination—seven minutes (I recommend
starting with the four things you are believing God
for in the next ninety days. Have a scripture to
back each up. Use the four things you are believing
for and see those things coming to pass in the next
ninety days, and thank Him for it as you see it in
your imagination. You can start with these and
allow God to lead you as you develop bigger goals.)
a. Write down one thing that you are
believing God to do for you today.

82
Reflection Questions:
What are the five different activities that I do in
my daily time with God?

Which of those five activities do you do; which do

you need to improve?

Why are worship, praise and thankfulness an

important foundation to have in building your bond
with God?

Explain the importance of confession,

imagination and faith statement in your relationship
with God.

Chapter Seven

Everyone Needs A KING!

After Adam and Eve sinned, they hid from the presence
of God in the garden. “But the LORD God called to Adam, and
said to him, ‘Where are you?’” Gen. 3:9). God desires a bond
with each of us. And even when we have spent our lives
running and hiding from His presence, He still calls to us by
name and asks the question: Where are you?
God already knows where you are spiritually,
emotionally and mentally, so He doesn’t ask the question for
His benefit; He asks us the question to force us to stop, take
stock of our lives in relation to Him, and hopefully recognize
that we need Him in our lives.
Unfortunately, Adam and Eve’s sin broke their
relationship with God. And, that sin has been passed down to
all men and women, and stopped any type of relationship
between mankind and God. To restore the relationship with
us, John 3:16 says, “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly
prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only
begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as
Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
Jesus was fully God, and fully man, and carried the
penalty of the sin of the entire world when He died on the
cross. Your relationship with God can be restored by honoring
Jesus as Lord, receiving the sacrifice of Jesus’ life for your
sins, and making Him king in your life. Your bond with God
begins with King Jesus. In John 14:6, Jesus said to him, “I am
the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and
the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

85
So, here in the final pages of this book, I ask you the
question: Where Are You? All that I spoke about in the pages
of this book. All that I have learned over the past decade.
Every blessing I have experienced in my finances and
relationships originate from one point: my bond with God!
And my bond with Him started on the day I acknowledged
Jesus for who He is.
He is King of the universe, Lord of Lords, the Great and
Mighty God, the heavenly Father, my Savior. You need a king,
a CEO, a Father in your life. But, to experience Him as that
you must submit your life to Him. If you have not done that,
and are ready now, here is a prayer to guide you:

Father God, I come to you in Jesus’ name,

thanking you for who you are. I acknowledge that
I have been running and hiding from your
presence and voice in my life. I acknowledge my
rebellion and sin that has blocked a relationship
with you. Thank you for the sacrifice of your Son
Jesus. I am sorry for my sin, I turn away from my
sin, and I accept the forgiveness that Jesus offers.
I desire to build a bond with You, making
you the priority in my life, submitting my life
completely to you. I want you to be king over my
life. I want to know your heart and your ways, and
walk close to you all my days, speaking with you,
worshipping you, and receiving the wisdom and
direction that only comes with an unbreakable
bond with you!
If you already have submitted your life to Jesus, but want
to go deeper and develop an unbreakable bond with Him, here
is a prayer for you:

86
Father God, I thank you for Jesus, my
Savior, Lord and King. I thank you that I have
tasted of your goodness, mercy and grace in my
life, and that you have been faithful to me all my
days. I love you, but I want to develop a bond with
you.
I am sorry for acknowledging you with my
lips, but not with my actions. I repent of not
making you priority number one in my life. I desire
to know you in the same way the great examples
in the Bible knew you: prioritizing prayer and
worship in my daily activities, looking to you and
your Word for direction and wisdom.

Appendix
30 Faith Statements
Before getting into God’s presence, I recommend finding

honoring your Word in Numbers 23:19 that you are
not a man that you should lie. From this Moment
forward my business will prosper like never before.)

continue to bring in my life.

continue to work your principle for seed time and
harvest. I will sow seed often and receive harvest more
often!

because they don’t meditate day and night on God’s
Word. They spend more time listening to the news,
sports, music, etc. than the Word of GOD. Spend ten
minutes at night and ten minutes in the morning and
mediate on God’s Word. See yourself financially
succeeding the way you want, not for what you think
you can accomplish. Use your car for faith building.
While you drive ONLY listen to prosperity faith
teachings for ninety days and see what happens.)

30. Numbers 23:19: Father, thank you that you are not a

together! Thank you for honoring your Word my
