WITHIN SCHOOLS
Vocabulary ...
Ecole primaire : Primary school. The pupils are aged
between 6 and 10 years old.
Cité scolaire : Both secondary school and high school.
The pupils are aged between 10 and 18 years old.
Collège : Secondary school. The pupils are aged
between 10 and 15 years old.
Lycée : High school. The pupils are aged between 15
and 18 years old.
Classe prépa : Pupils aged between 18 and 20 years
old who follow specific classes after high school and
before university.
CDI or CDR : the school library.
Vie scolaire : a department that takes care of pupils
when they aren’t in classes with teachers.
SEGPA : classes for pupils with learning difficulties or
special needs.
Foyer or MDL : a room where pupils can go and do
activities during lunch break.

1 german volunteer

You will do your mission in the secondary school and
the high school. It is based in the east of Marseille
(30 minutes from the city center by bus). You will
be accomodated in a building inside the school
campus, but with a separated entry. You’ll live alone
or with language assistants.
Your main mission will be helping the german
teacher during german lessons. You don’t teach
yourself but for example you help the pupils when
they have exercices to do, you help them with the
pronounciation, you play games with smaller groups.
Sometimes you’ll have missions at the library (one
day per week). Depending on your skills and interests
you can help organising workshops during lunch
break (clubs). You can even participate in other
classes (like english lessons) and many more things
like helping the «vie scolaire» if you want to.
Lycée Valabre, Gardanne
1 spanish volunteer

You will do your mission in the high school that is based
in the countryside, near a city called Gardanne.
But you will live in a flat based in the city center of
Marseille, with 3 other volunteers. To go to the high
school, you’ll have to take a train and then a bus (the
travel is payed by Hors Pistes). The travel is 50 minutes
long. Be ready for this!
Your main mission will be helping the spanish teachers
during spanish lessons : you can propose some
activities and workshops, help the pupils. You can
also help organising a school exchange between
the highschool and another high school in spain
(organising visits, contacting the school in spain,
etc). You can help at the library (CDR), and prepare
activities for the «café lecture». You can develop your
personnal project on the subject of your choice, that
will be exhibited at the library.
Lycée Vauvenargues, Aix-en-Provence
1 spanish + 1 german volunteer

You will do your mission in the highschool based in
the city center. It used to be a monastery so it looks a
bit like Hogwarts. There are many pupils, a baskeball
court, a climbing wall and even a small theater in
an old church. You’ll be accomodated in a building
inside the school campus, with other volunteers.
Regarding the german volunteer : Your mission can
be to accompany classes on trips or to events. You
can also help the german teacher during german
lessons (do presentations, organise activities or
workshops, help pupils with exam preparation, tutor
pupils who want to learn more and who need it,
propose individual conversation trainings). You can
also help the teachers of the Euro classes (a specific
class where pupils learn german doing sport). You
can propose activities, do presentations on different
topics, accompany the pupils on school trips (rather
sport oriented).

Regarding the spanish volunteer : Your mission can be
in the highschool or in an association based in Aix-en-
Provence, helping spanish teachers (create material
and activities for classes, prepare conversation
workshops, help the pupils with homeworks, and
accompany the pupils on school trips).
Collège Bosco, Vitrolles
2 european volunteers (open)

You will do your mission in the secondary school
based in the city center of Vitrolles (it’s a small town
but close from Marseille or Aix-en-Provence). There
are regular classes, a SEGPA class, a school library, a
«vie scolaire». You will be accomodated in a building
inside the school campus, with another volunteer. The
apartment has a really nice terrasse!
Your missions will be providing assistance to the school
librarian (book registration, organising workshops
or exhibitions). You’ll also be able to help the italian
teacher during language classes or the SEGPA
teacher who is working with pupils with special needs.
You’ll have the opportunity to organise activities in
the «foyer» during lunch break, and participate in
school trips.
Cité Scolaire Mistral, Avignon
1 greek volunteer and 1 german volunteer

You will do your mission in the secondary school or in
the library of the high school. It is based right in the city
center and only a few minutes from the famous «Palais
des Papes» and the «pont d’Avignon». Avignon is a
relatively small charming city in the south of France.
You will be accomodated in a building inside the
school campus. You’ll live with another volunteer and
language assistants.
One volunteer will be at the library : your mission will
be to help at the high school library (organise books,
organise clubs or exhibitions at the library, help the
pupils find books).
One volunteer will be in the secondary school : There
are many different tasks to manage however you
have still a lot of freedom to chose which topics
you are interested in. The only fixed hours are the
two hours each day except Wednesday during
the lunch break where you have the chance to
implement workshops, play games or do sports with
students. On wednesdays you work together with
the dormatory students for four hours. The remaining
eightteen hours are to your free disposal. You can use
them to work together with the language teachers
to discuss several different topics with the students
e.g. stereotypes, culture, language, youth mobility
etc., to hold classes but also to just observe classes.
Sometimes you also get the chance to participate in
school trips.
Lycée les iscles, Manosque
1 italian + 1 european volunteer (open)

You will do your mission in the high school, close
from the city center of Manosque. You will be
accomodated with other volunteers.
Your missions will be helping in the english teacher, or
italian teacher. Moreover, every wednesday, you’ll be
able to do a few missions in the school library, and in
the afternoon a few missions with the boarding school
pupils (organising workshops, cine clubs, etc). Last
but not least, a big part of your mission will be at the
«foyer» and the cafeteria (where pupils can go and
socialise) and help the pupils with the responsabilities
of running a cafeteria, interact with them regarding
life in high school, future choices, or any issue they
face.

_In primary or secondary schools based in Manosque
You will be accomodated with other volunteers.
In the committee: your missions will be to promote
german-french friendships throught small projects. For
exemple: small german classes for adults, organising
something for the french-german day, meeting once
a month at the committe to discuss about new ideas
for the future.
In secondary schools : helping the german teachers
during language classes, helping at the «vie scolaire».
In primary schools : organising classes for the pupils to
discover german language and culture.
Anywhere : you’ll have a lot of freedom and creativity!

You will do your mission in the secondary school,
close from the city center of Manosque. You will be
accomodated with other volunteers.
Your missions will be to take part in the linguistic classes
of your choice and help teachers. You’ll also be able
to organise activities aimed at raising awareness on
environmental issues and eco-friendly daily practices.
In a section for non-French native speakers students,
you’ll be able to participate in the follow-up of the
pupils and support the teachers with non formal
education methods.
Collège Itard, Oraison
1 german + 1 european volunteer (open)

You will do your mission in the secondary school,
based in a small village called Oraison. Be ready to
live in the countryside! But don’t worry, it is close to
Manosque, where other volunteers are doing their
missions. You’ll be accomodated in a building inside
the school campus, with another volunteer.
Your missions will be mainly with the language teachers
during english, german, italian, spanish classes...You
can propose games to the pupils, help them with
the homework, propose some workshops on specific
topics, etc. You’ll also be able to participate in the
organisation of a school exchange if there is one.
Collège Yves Klein, La Colle-sur-Loup
1 european volunteer (open) + 1 german volunteer

You will do your mission in the secondary school (and
sometimes in primary schools next door). The school
has a bunch of clubs, a library and a department
that focuses on children with special needs. You will
be accomodated in a building next to the school
campus, with volunteers and language assistants.
Your mission will be to raise awarness on societal
issues among the pupils. You’ll have a lot of freedom
and you’ll be able to choose topics such as human
rights, sexual orientation, gender, ecology, etc. and
organise clubs for the pupils. One volunteer will have
other missions with the german teacher, one volunteer
will have other missions with the english teacher.
You’ll also have the opportunity to implement your
own projects, for example a «language week» or a
«green week».
Lycée L’Altitude, Briançon
1 european volunteer (open)

You will do your mission in the high school based in
Briançon (in the alps!). The high school offers general
classes for pupils from a large area, therefore there
is a boarding school. You will be accomodated in a
building inside the school campus.
Your mission will be to help at the MDL, a club room
for pupils. You’ll also be able to organise activities for
the pupils of the boarding school, to participate in
specific projects such as the «green week», to
participate in outdoor activities with the pupils (sport
events, cultural events), to help english teachers
during language classes. One part of your mission will
also be to document the school life (taking photos,
writing articles, etc).
Ecole primaire de Forville, Briançon
1 italian volunteer

The elementary school of Forville is a Bilingual School
French/italian and receive around 150 pupils, from
3 to 10 years old, supported by 10 teachers. The
particularity is that, half of teaching time in italian and
half in french.
The volunteer will come to promote multiculturalism
by learning a foreign language, respect of the nature
and other human beings. You will take part in the
school daily life by organising activities for the children.
As activities that you could set up, during your mission,
mostly cultural and ecological workshops but you will
have also the space to propose your own topics. You
could also be invited by the volunteer hosted in the
highschool of Briançon to create commun activities.

The mission takes place in the garden of la

Your tasks are to keep the shared gardens,
the paths where the public walks on, the shed
where the tools are stored and the entrance
of the gardens in a good shape.
You’ll also work a lot with the gardeners who
rent a parcelle.
You’ll do workshops, at least twice a week,
where you’ll plant plants. When you want to
implement your own workshop, you’ll have to
prepare the planning and the communication
(posters).
If you want to : you can get your own parcelle
and work on it a little bit.

Habitat Alternatif Social (H.A.S) is working to
provide support to people who face social
difficulties, especially towards access to
housing.
H.A.S is running different shelters, the activities
of the volunteer will take place in one specific

Missions Supporting organization
Your mission is to work together with the team Porta Nuova Europa / Website here
to break the isolation of the women hosted by
HAS, and create a group dynamic.
This is done through collective activities, such
as going to the cinema, organising cine clubs,
going to the museum, and many other things.
Your mission will als to keep in touch with the
cultural local partners, and search for new
ones.
The volunteer is accompagnied by the whole
team: they will give you ideas, help you widen
your network, support you in your missions,
especially with the residents.
