SCOPE

The scope of this document is aimed at operational Site.

2. PURPOSE

The purpose of this document is to eliminate the risks involved in the servicing of Fire extinguishers and to ensure
that Service providers comply with the minimum SANS Standards and OHS Act requirements.

3. SERVICE PROVIDERS

The chosen service provider is an employer and will therefore ensure that the minimum requirements in the OHS
Act are met and maintained. Inductions will be conducted before the employees enter our Site. The service
provider will also be responsible to comply with the minimum SANS Standards for servicing of Fire extinguishers
and before a contract is awarded to a service provider, copies of their company profile along with competency
certificates of their employees and SANS Certification will be requested from them.

4. WHEN A SERVICE IS REQUIRED?

When the Fire extinguishers on a working contract are due for service, the Site Agent will contact the Yard /
Buyer. The Buyer will then contact the Service provider to deliver the amount of Fire extinguishers needed on the
project to the yard, with copies of the inspection registers of the Fire extinguishers (history). All Fire extinguishers
will be marked with a small metal plate which will indicate the date on which the Fire extinguisher was last
serviced (annually) and pressure Tested (every three years). The Yard will send the Fire extinguishers to the
site or the site will collect the Fire extinguishers from the Yard. The Site will ensure that the Fire extinguishers
which must be serviced are send to the Divisional Yard for the service. The Service provider will collect the Fire
extinguishers from the Divisional Yard and return the serviced Fire extinguishers back to the Yard.

The service provider will service the Fire extinguishers at the Service provider’s premises.

The Service Provider will keep records of the inspections / tests and services of all the fire extinguishers.
