WHERE ITS NAME COMES
FROM?
FRANCE

It was originally produced in a town in

the south of France called Nîmes,
hence its name denim
FIRST
GARMENT
In 1800 this material was created in order to
protect the skin of the workers

Then the first garment with this material was

created, the famous overall
.
In 1853 Levi Strauss opened a store in San Francisco
where he sold materials for workers, including jeans or
better known as denim; then together with his partner
Jacob Davis patented the pants that changed the
course of fashion

POPULARIZATION
It is not until the 50s that it begins its
popularization as a garment, starting
with young people.

The end of the second war helps this

event since also with the end of this one
ends in turn with segregation and
stereotypes; and this is how jeans begin
to be used by people of all social strata,
genders, races and sex.
DENIM IS
FASHION
At the beginning of the 80s great fashion houses such
as Yves Saint Laurent and Kenzo; were the main sources
of "diffusion" of this garment.

The avant-garde and music gave a new

aesthetic to this garment, since they are the
main garments of the great rock stars

DENIM in the present

TODAY
Over the years until today this textile
material has managed to transcend
over the years and exceed the
seasons, adapting to trends
in the past
POLLUTION
Unfortunately, the production of one of the garments created with this material, such as jeans, generates great
environmental pollution, since in its production can consume up to 3,780 liters of water, in addition to using a
huge amount of pesticides in the cultivation of cotton.which is also used to form this textile.
WHAT IS DONE
ABOUT IT ??
Today thousands of firms such as Re/Done,
Levi's and Everlane have opted for a
sustainable production of this material, either
using second-hand denim or innovative
environmentally friendly processes
CONCLUSION
In our opinion we believe that this textile material is still used today due to its great versatility,
since the innovation of its texture allows vary patterns and designs in this fabric, therefore,
designers are allowed to create new garments with this material. With regard to fashion we
believe that it could be considered "essential" since we want it or not, this is part of how people
express who they are.
