DRAW COMMANDS

POINT COMMAND

Point objects can act as nodes to which you can snap objects. You can specify 2D and 3D locations for a
point.
Command: POINT or PO

Changing POINT properties

Command: PTYPE
or select Point Style from the Format Menu

From the Point Style window, you may able to:

- select the point style
- assign Point Size
- choose between ‘Set Size Relative to Screen’ or ‘Set Size in
Absolute Units

Notes:
1. If you have already assigned point style and you change at a later stage, then all point styles on the
drawing area will also change to the new point style.
2. If you want to hide points or do not want to plot points, you may select the point style represented
as blank box.

DONUT COMMAND

Donut command is defined as a solid-filled circle or filled ring object.

Command: DONUT or DO

or select Donut icon under Draw Menu or Draw Interface
Specify inside diameter: enter desired value
Specify outside diameter: enter desired value
Specify center of donut: pick center point or enter coordinates
Press ESC or Enter to exit

PLINE COMMAND

Creates a 2D polyline, a single object that is composed of line and arc segments.

Command: PLINE or PL

Specify start point: pick point or assign coordinates
Specify next point: pick point or assign coordinates
or assign Width from the command bar

Specify starting width: assign values

POLYGON COMMAND

Polygon command is used to create polygons. Maximum number of sides to create polygon in Autocad is
1024.
Command: POLYGON or POL
Specify center: pick point or assign coordinates

There are two types of polygon:

1. Inscribed in Circle – polygon is drawn inside the circle wherein the vertices or corners of the
polygon touches the circle.
2. Circumscribe about Circle – polygon is formed outside the circle.

Note: Polygon can be drawn with or without a circle.

ELLIPSE COMMAND

Ellipse is a curve surrounding two focal points. Ellipse in AutoCAD can be created by
specifying a two-point on an axis and the endpoint on another axis.

Ellipse Center
The first axis is determined by the center point and endpoint, while the second axis is determined
by length.
Command: ELLIPSE or EL
or click on the Ellipse icon on the ribbon panel and choose Center from the drop-down list of the
Ellipse.
Specify center of the ellipse
Specify endpoint of the first axis

1. The Ellipse will be created, as shown in the below image:

If the vertical axis was chosen as the first axis, the ellipse so formed is shown in the below
image:

Axis, End
The Ellipse is formed by defining the three points similar to above.

It is shown below:

The location and length of the first axis is specified by the points 1 and 2, while the
distance between the center and the endpoint of the second axis is specified by the point
3.

Elliptical Arc
The Elliptical Arc command is used to create an elliptical arc.

For example:

Consider the below image:

The location and length of the first axis is specified by the points 1 and 2, while the
distance between the center and the endpoint of the second axis is specified by the point
3.

The fourth and fifth specified points are the start and end angles.

Let's understand with an example:

The steps are listed below:

1. Click on the Ellipse icon on the ribbon panel and choose Elliptical Arc from the
drop-down list of the Ellipse, as shown in the below image:

Or
Type el or ellipse on the command line or command prompt and press Enter.
Type A or arc on the command line or command prompt and press Enter.
2. Specify the endpoint or the center of the elliptical arc.
3. Specify endpoint of the axis, as shown below:

4. Specify endpoint of other axis, as shown below:

5. Specify the start angle. For example, 30. It is shown in the below image:

6. Specify the end angle. For example, 120.

7. The created elliptical arc is shown in the below image:

We can also specify the Parameter angle instead of the normal angle.

Parameter
It creates the arc using the following vector equation for the specified angle values:

p(angle) = c + a * cos(angle) + b* sin(angle)

Where,

a and b = negative lengths of the major and minor axis

c = center of the ellipse

MODIFY COMMANDS

FILLET COMMAND

The fillet command is used to create rounded edges between the adjacent lines and faces in 2D and 3D. It
is also used to connect two tangent arcs in 2D.

Command: FILLET or F

In the command bar choose select radius:

Specify fillet radius <default>: enter desired values
Select first object or: pick first line
Select second object or: pick second line

Note: for multiple fillet, click Multiple first before entering the radius.

CHAMFER COMMAND

The chamfer command is used to create slanted edges from the two adjacent lines. Chamfer can be done
in either Distance or Angle.

Where: 1 and 2 are the selected lines

Command: CHAMFER or CHA

Or select the icon from the drop-down list of Fillet,

In the command bar choose select Distance:

Select first chamfer distance or: enter desired value
Select second chamfer distance or: enter desired value
Select first object or: pick first line
Select second object or: pick second line

Note: Choice of first and second line must be referenced from the first and second chamfer distance

Command: CHAMFER or CHA

Or select the icon from the drop-down list of Fillet,

In the command bar choose select Angle:
Specify chamfer length on the first line: enter desired value
Select chamfer angle from the first line: enter desired value
Select first line or: pick first line
Select second line or: pick second line

Note: Choice of first and second line must be referenced from the first chamfer length and chamfer angle,
respectively.

MIRROR COMMAND

Mirror command used to create a mirrored copy of the selected object. Mirror is useful if you want to create
the other half the same as the half of the object across the center line.

Command: MIRROR or MI

Or select the icon from the ribbon panel,

Select objects: pick the object/s you want to mirror

Specify first point of mirror line: pick first reference point
Specify second point of mirror line: pick second reference point

PAGE SET-UP

A named page setup specifies settings such as the plot area, paper size, and scale, which determine the
appearance of a plotted or published output.

Note: Instead of creating a named page setup from scratch, you can import a named page setup from a drawing
that is properly setup for plotting or publishing.

1. Click File Page Setup Manager. Find

2. In the Page Setup Manager, Page Setups area, click New.
a. If you want to change the setting of the default Layout in Layout Tab, click the Layout and
choose Modify, then skip step 3 and 4.

4. Under Start With, select a page setup close to the settings you want, and click OK.
5. In the Page Setup dialog box change settings as required:
a. In the Printer/Plotter section, specify the default plotter to use while plotting or
publishing.
b. In the Paper Size list, select the default paper size to use for plotting or publishing.
c. In the Plot Area section, specify which area of the drawing to plot.
1. Window: Under Model Tab, window the object/s you will plot
d. In the Plot Scale box, specify the scale to use.
Note: If you select Layout as the Plot Area, the layout is plotted at 1:1 scale, regardless
of the plot scale you specify.
e. In the Drawing Orientation section, set the orientation.
Note: To rotate the drawing by 180 degrees, select Plot Upside-Down.
6. Click OK.
The new page setup is displayed in the Page Setups list in the Page Setup Manager.
