1 Introduction
2 Prerequisites
This section contains information on the documents, tools, and conditions that
apply to the procedures.
2.1 Documentation
Make sure that the following documents are read and
understood:
— Personal Health and Safety Information
Torque wrench, 13 mm
2.3 Conditions
Before going to site, make sure that the following conditions are met:
— A work order is available.
This section provides information for unpacking and checking the equipment.
Danger!
Explosion risk!
Damaged or defective lithium-ion batteries can explode or cause a fire. Do not use
damaged or defective lithium-ion batteries.
Steps
4 Replace Batteries
In each battery compartment, battery block 1 is installed on the far left, followed
by battery blocks 2, 3, and 4 in order. A temperature sensor must be attached to
the second battery block to measure the battery temperature.
Figure 1 shows the positions of battery blocks and battery temperature sensor in
Enclosure 6150.
1 2 3 4
Ge15735A
— Replace the battery only with the same type or a corresponding type that the
manufacturer recommends.
— Replace all battery blocks connected to the enclosure, even if only one
battery block is considered faulty.
— The circuit breaker (CB) for the battery string must be switched off at the DC
distribution unit before any work is started.
Warning!
Improper handling of batteries can cause them to short-circuit, which can result in serious
injury due to high energy levels. Exercise the necessary care when working with batteries.
Remove any items that can cause short circuits, such as, rings and bracelets.
Caution!
Excessive heat can cause battery casings to soften and warp, potentially allowing acid to
escape. Acid can cause injury when in contact with the skin, and can affect the throat and
lungs if inhaled. Use protective equipment when replacing batteries.
Caution!
The equipment is heavy. Lifting the equipment without the aid of a lifting device can
cause injury.
Do!
The casing surrounding overheated batteries can become soft and warped. Check
batteries for signs of overheating. Replace damaged batteries according to instructions.
Do!
Acid causes corrosion, which can seriously damage the product. Check batteries for signs
of acid leakage. Replace leaking batteries according to instructions.
Steps
1. Inform the Operation and Maintenance Center (OMC) that work is to start
on the enclosure. The OMC can then decide what measures are necessary to
minimize service disruptions.

that are interconnected. Each battery unit must be placed on a L-support bracket.
Battery 6614 is always the bottom battery in a group and Battery 6618 is always
placed on top.
For Battery 6614 1U of free space above the unit is required and for Battery 6618
0.5U of free space above the unit is required.
Free space is required over each battery unit. It is also recommended to have
some free space under each group of connected battery units for cable routing.
— Install a battery only with the same type or a corresponding type that the
manufacturer recommends.
— For more information on the battery unit, see Battery Unit Description.
Danger!
Explosion risk!
Damaged or defective lithium-ion batteries can explode or cause a fire. Do not use
damaged or defective lithium-ion batteries.
Warning!
Switching poles when replacing lithium batteries can result in an explosion that can lead
to injury. Always ensure that lithium batteries are connected to the right poles.
