A. The student council is petitioning to prepare an arts festival in your school, but the administration is
reluctant to agree to the plan because it involves taking two days off the students' normal classes. As
one of the organizers, you are tasked to write a position paper which argues your stand for the
establishment of the activity to the administration.

Greetings,

Organizing school activities such as art festivals, intramurals, and foundation day are always the
part of the school programs every year and these are significant aspect of a student’s total education
program. These provide opportunities for students to further develop their skills. It also provides
experiences that will help students grow physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and morally.

The issue is about the plan of student council in preparing an arts festival in school but the
school administration is reluctant to agree to the plan of student council because it involves taking two
days off the students’ normal classes. As one of the organizers and also a student in school, the
following are the arguments regarding to the issue:

 It will only take two days and I believe that this will not affect the whole school year for the
students.
 The students deserve to experience enjoyment once in a lifetime in their school life and not
always stress in school because of overflowing schoolwork and projects.
 Art festivals can help students learn about the cultural history and background of our country.

An arts festival is a type of festival that can encompass a wide range of art forms including
music, dance, film, fine art, literature, poetry and isn't solely focused on visual arts. Arts festivals may
feature a mixed program that include music, literature, comedy, children's entertainment, science, or
street theatre, and are typically presented in venues over a period of time ranging from as short as a day
or a weekend to a month. Arts festivals can be not only as a way of entertainment, but can also be an
importance and enriches knowledge about arts and even culture to learning students especially those
who are aspiring to be artists.

Arts festivals can also be a way to relieve stress, especially to students. Today’s world is full of
stressful things, ranging from work or school-related issues to family stuff. Sometimes, all one needs is
to step into a peaceful area and have some quiet time. Getting immersed in the world of art can boost
your mood immediately and make you forget about the things which are stressing you. Students can
think of it as some form of intervention to prevent you from sliding into the health risks associated with
stress. They deserve at least a day off or even a break from schoolwork.
Arts festivals is a platform to social interactions. The world today has almost cut out physical
interaction with humans. Almost everyone spends most of their time stuck on their computer screens
without face-to-face interactions. Attending art festivals breaks the coldness and makes you interact
with other people, talk to them, socialize and even enjoy one another’s company. This can also be
helpful to students interacting with each other from different sections.

Arts festivals enriches knowledge to students about art. Every country has a different art and
culture scene, and a key element to present and help to produce art in each respective country are
festivals. Because festivals provide a platform to engage with large and diverse audiences. Ireland for
example has a long tradition with festivals, and its Art Council acknowledges the key role that festivals
play in bringing art to the masses. And festivals are also critical in providing access to the arts in local
communities and a chance for the artists to meet the public, and vice versa.

By preparing an arts festival in our school, this can give an opportunity to give students a good
time and even learn new things about arts and culture about our country at the same time. They also
deserve a time out from their schoolwork for a while. We hope you can consider our decision that can
be a very big opportunity for the students and even the school as a whole.

Sincerely,

The Student Council
