on unix vim --version tells you the various locations of the vim config files,
system vimre file: “$VIM/vimre
user vimrc file: "SHOME/vimre
2nd user vimre file: "=/.vim/vimre
user exrc file: "SHOME/.exrc”
defaults file: “SVIMRUNTIME/defaults.vim"
fallback for $VIM; "/usr/share/vim

This tells you the directory your system vimrc is located in, but it doesn't tell you where your user vimre
