Hardware and Software Requirements for Server and Terminal
According to the following scheme, it will be possible to work in an expandable environment, starting
from a server with the services and concentrated applications until arriving at a system of multiple
servers with the services distributed in different devices.
It is necessary to take into account that the servers can be physical, virtualized, or be in a Cloud
environment (in the cloud).

Basic Configuration
Applies to the set of applications and / or services that are installed or executed in the "single
computer" environment, which can be physical, virtual or use a mixed environment. It constitutes the
Web Server, the Data Server and the Application Server. Additionally, an independent device can
be used as a work terminal for the monitoring operator.

RECOMMENDED CONFIGURATION
It applies to the set of applications and / or services that are installed or executed in a system
made up of multiple servers, which can be physical, virtual or a mixed environment;
designating a device as a Web Server, another as Data Server and another as Application
Server. Additionally, independent equipment can be used as a work terminal for the monitoring
operator.

CLOUD CONFIGURATION (Cloud Environment)
Applies to the set of applications and / or services that are installed or run in the "single computer"
environment mounted in the cloud. It constitutes the Web Server, the Data Server and the Application
Server. Additionally, independent physical equipment can be used as a work terminal for the
monitoring operator and another as a secondary application server, in case you need to connect
serial receivers.

The main advantages with using these platforms would be:

Safety Tips
 Antivirus
Having an antivirus in your servers and / or terminals is key. Not counting with one means
exposing your device to any kind of malware it may have contact with. From a keylogger that
could save the credential of your Google or PayPal accounts, to ransomware that could encrypt
the machine and ask for money in exchange. No matter how careful we are, malicious files may
still find a way to sneak in.
 Firewall
The firewall is as critical to security as an antivirus. These programs are responsible for
preventing malware from spreading throughout a network, to stop attackers from breaking into
the system. There are two types of firewall: physical and logical. A Logical firewall would be
the software installed in the computer, while physical firewalls are stand-alone devices or are
already integrated into the router. The firewall is not only responsible for allowing and blocking
incoming and outgoing connections but it can also open and close ports that certain programs
make use of. If, for instance, we were to turn off the Windows Firewall, this would mean all ports
will show as “open”. With the firewall, we are able to control which of these the machine is
allowed to “listen” for connection requests.
 Ports used by SoftGuard
The DSS (Desktop Security Suite) platform works in a web environment, through a web browser.
However, if it is executed locally, it does not require opening any ports.
This will only be necessary in a scenario where a user might require external access to the DSS
platform.
E.g.: External monitoring operators.

E.g.: Clients with Corporate Web Access (AWCC).
E.g.: Moving targets such as those in use of SmartPanics or Trackguard.
E.g.: Guards to be controlled through VigiControl.
 DSS Suite Folders
The files corresponding to the SoftGuard suite can be found distributed in different folders.
CloudSecuritySuite: Necessary files for the web server.

Data: Data files.
IRServices: Necessary files for the IPReader Service.
SoftGuard: Necessary files for creating the database, configuration and applications.
SoftGuard.Final: Shared resources folder.
 Folder access permissions
It will not be necessary to enabled shared access to the folders mentioned above except for
“SoftGuard.Final” as it requires full control permissions for the following users:
- IIS_IUSRS
- IUSR

SQL Licensing Requirements
There are different ways to license the databse engine. This can be done by CAL, meaning the
user must pay according to the number of users that will be connecting to the databse; or
CORE, where it will be paid per physical processor of the server where the SQL is installed,.
The licensing best suited for SoftGuard is that by CORE, as paying for a CAL license (per user)
would be unfeasable in most environments, as each user connecting to the platform would be
using a license. You must consider that the platform can be accessed not only by users of the
monitoring central, but also by Dealers, technicians, end-users and such.
The reality is that SoftGuard works with either of the two options so you are free to choose
whichever fits your situation best.
Communication Peripherals
It is extremely important, for the infrastructure of your central, to use networking devices
suitable for the criticality of your service.
There is a wide variety of router brands and models on the market. When deciding one to use,
it is important to distinguish between those with the basic functionalities (such as those for
home use) and more robust models for corporate use. Within your company's infrastructure,
you should always incorporate business level routers to avoid signal traffic collapses.
We recommend that such devices count with the following features:
- Load balancing functionalities.

- Creation of secure connections (VPN).
- Optimized management of connections and ports.
- Use of Firewalls, Web-Proxy.
- Quality of Services and Tunneling.
