Submarines
A submarine is a
vessel capable of
navigating
underwater.
When and who
invented it?
The first submarine was designed in 1578
by William Borne. And in
1776 the American David Bushnell built
the first submarine. It was made of wood
and propelled by hand by propellers. And
in 1888 Isaac Peral built the submarine
that was electrically propelled and also
incorporated an underwater
torpedo boat.
How they work?

A balance is sought between the

weight of the vessel and the
hydrostatic thrust. A submarine can
float because the weight of the water
it displaces is equal to the weight of
the ship. This displacement of water
creates an upward force acting in
opposition to gravity, which would
pull the vessel downward. In order to
control this, the submarine has
several tanks that can be alternately
filled with water or air.
What for is most
used?

Submarines were created for

military purposes. They are used
to patrol the maritime waters and
to attack enemy ships in times of
war.
Planes
Vehicle, equipped with
wings and one or more
engines, capable of
moving through the air.
When and who
invented it?
The Englishman William
Samuel Henson designed and
patented the first airplane in
1842. It was equipped with
propellers, a steam engine and
a fixed wing.
How they work?

It has an aerodynamic
design of the aircraft's
wings, which make the air
flow faster in the upper
curved portion than in the
lower straight portion,
generating a suction effect
that prevents the aircraft
from rushing to the ground.
What for is most
used?

Airplanes are mainly used to

transport people and goods
from one place to another in a
faster way.
