Quantifiers

Concept: A quantifier is a word or phrase which is used before a noun to indicate


the amount or quantity. These words can be employed with countable and
uncountable nouns.

For countable nouns

Many: express a big quantity.


Examples.
- We have many friends
- There are not many tourist
- How many cats do you have?

A few: design a little quantity in a positive way


-there are a few have already arrived.
- Do you have a few dollars?
- I just need a few hours to finish my homework

Few: design a little quantity in a negative way


- Few students passed the exam
- Few cities in the word can compete with Paris
- She had few moments on her own

Some: indicates an indefinite, but limited quantity.


- My sister has some bracelets
- There is some ice cream in the fridge
- Do you want some tea?

For uncountable nouns

Much / not much: used to talk about a large quantity.


- We have much homework
- There is not much time
- How much juice is left?

A little: express a little amount.


- Do you have a little money?
- They have a little of free time
- She speaks a little of French

Any: indicates an indefinite, but limited quantity. It is just for negative


sentences or questions.
- I don´t have any soda here
- There are any books in your room
- Is there any encyclopedia on your house?

Little: express a little amount.


- They have little time
- There is little to do now
- They gave us little information about the place
