Unit No 2

Objectives: Understanding the Importance of some Services

We have different computers playing different roles on the network. We work with the following servers
and clients. We work with the basic configuration of the following

1. HTTP server
2. FTP server
3. Mail server
4. DHCP server
5. DNS server
6. Outlook client`

Lab Practice

Unit No 3

Objectives: Understanding the purpose and behavior of Protocols using Wireshark

Different Protocols come into picture, when data must be prepared and transmitted from one computer
to another. Understanding the protocols and their behavior is paramount to understanding networking.
We understand the functionality of the protocols like ARP, IP, ICMP, UDP, TCP, PPP, Frame-Relay, HDLC,
RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, DHCP, DNS, etc.

The following packet captures are discussed

1. Capture and analysis of ARP, Address Resolution packets

2. Capture and analysis of ARP, Duplicate address detection packets
3. Capture and analysis of ICMP echo request packet
4. Capture and analysis of ICMP echo reply packet
5. Capture and analysis of ICMP Destination host is unreachable packet
6. Capture and analysis of ICMP Destination port is unreachable packet
7. Capture and analysis of ICMP TTL expired in transit packet
8. Capture and analysis of ICMP Administratively prohibited packet
9. Capture and analysis of “Tracert” command packets
10. Capture and analysis of DNS standard query and Standard Response packets
11. Capture and analysis of DHCP Discover, Offer, Request and ACK packets
12. Capture and analysis of flooded broadcast packets
13. Capture and analysis of UDP protocol packets
14. Capture and analysis of NetBIOS name registration packet
15. Capture and analysis of Directed broadcast packet
16. Capture and analysis of unicast packet on Ethernet
17. Capture and analysis of broadcast packet on Ethernet
18. Capture and analysis of Multicast packets on Ethernet
19. Capture and analysis of PPP protocol packets
20. Capture and analysis of HDLC protocol packet
