• Single melody with chords written underneath


• Must be in C Major
• Must follow a harmonic progression
• Must be 4/4 time with a chord on beat 1 and 3
• Notes in melody must match chord
• 8 bars long

Gr. 10

• Two part melody with chords written underneath


• Must be in a major key that is not C Major
• Must follow a harmonic progression
• Must be 4/4 time with a chord on beat 1 and 3
• Notes in both melodic lines must match chord
• 8 bars long

Gr. 11

• Three part melody with both bass and treble clef used (ex 2 melodies in treble 1 in bass)
• Must be in a minor key
• Must follow a harmonic progression
• Can be in 4/4 time with a chord on beat one and three or 3/4 with chords on beat one
• Notes in all melodic lines must match chord
• 16 bars long

Gr. 12

• Four part melody with 2 in bass and 2 in treble


• Must be in a minor key to start and should modulate to a major key through shared chords
• Can create a harmonic progression as long as it follows functional harmony rules
• Can be in 4/4 time with a chord on beat one and three or 3/4 with chords on beat one
• Notes in all melodic lines must match chord or resolve properly
• Min.16 bars long
• 7th chords should be used particularly on V and on VII or iio
