Indian Navy Day 2022 to be celebrated at Visakhapatnam
• The Navy Day which is observed on 4 December every
year to acknowledge the role of the Indian Navy and
commemorate its achievements in ‘Operation Trident’
during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. And the celebrations are
usually held in New Delhi in presence of the Commander
in Chief, President of India.
• This year (2022) navy day celebrations to be held in
Visakhapatnam, Indian Naval ships, submarines, aircraft
and Special Forces from Eastern, Western and Southern
Naval Command would showcase the capability and
versatility of the Indian
• The Indian Navy was established in 1612 by the East
India Company.
Operation Trident:
It was a counter-attack by the Indian Navy on the Karachi harbour
during the Indo-Pakistan war in 1971.

India used anti-ship missiles for the first time during this operation
and destroyed the Pakistani destroyer ship PNS Khaibar.

The Indian Navy's three warships - INS Nipat, INS Nirghat and INS
Veer - played an important role in the attack.

Shivaji maharaj , is the creator of the country's naval force.
World Soil Day
World soil day is observed every year on December 5 and aims to
raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy
ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing
challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness and
encouraging societies to improve soil health.

It was recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences

(IUSS) in 2002.

5th December 2014 was designated as the first official WSD by the
UN General Assembly (UNGA)

International Cheetah Day- Kuno cheetah kills Nilghai calf
Since 2010, the world has been celebrating
International Cheetah Day on December 4 to
raise awareness about the threat of extinction
that they face.

Months after eight Namibian cheetahs found

their new home at Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno
National Park, the world is set to observe
International Cheetah Day. The day falls on
December 4 and aims to protect the wildlife. It
is also an occasion for raising awareness about
their threat of extinction.

Sanjay Malhotra appointed as new Revenue Secretary
Senior bureaucrat Sanjay Malhotra has been appointed as the
secretary in the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.

He replaced Tarun Bajaj, who superannuated on November 30.

Sanjay Malhotra was working as an officer on special duty (OSD)

in the revenue department since October this year.

Sanjay Malhotra takes over as the top bureaucrat in the revenue

department at a time when the government is preparing for the
Union Budget 2023-24 to be tabled in Parliament on February 1.

Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar named as chairperson of the
National Statistical Commission
• Government of India had appointed Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar,
Professor Emeritus at Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI), as the part-
time chairperson of the National Statistical Commission (NSC) of India for
a period of three years.
• He will take up this role as an additional responsibility while continuing as
Professor Emeritus at CMI. He joined CMI as a visiting professor in 2010,
and officiated as the Director of CMI from January 2011 to April 2021.

• NSC is an autonomous body formed in June 2005 under the

recommendation of the Dr. C Rangarajan commission. The objective of its
constitution was to reduce the problems faced by statistical agencies in
the country with respect to the collection of data, and strengthen public
trust in the numbers released by the Government of India. The
chairperson of the Commission enjoys the status of a Minister of State,
Government of India.

Dr. Indrani Mukherjee have been selected as Australia’s Superstars
of STEM 2022.
• Kadiyala is an IT Program Manager at Challenger Limited.

Science and Technology Group and has always been fascinated by

• Every year Science and Technology Australia (STA), which is the

Panel On MGNREGA Restructuring:
• The Central Government has set up a panel to recommend structural and other
reforms required for the effective implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National
Rural Employment Guarantee Act

• The panel will be headed by Amarjeet Sinha – the former Rural Development
Secretary and advisor in the PMO.
• Chief Economic Advisor Anantha Nageswaran is one of the members of this panel.
• It is expected to submit its report by February 2023.
• The MGNREGA was enacted in 2005 to implement a demand-driven scheme that
guarantees 100 days of unskilled work per year for any rural household that requires
it.
• The panel is tasked with assessing various factors behind the demand for
MGNREGA work, expenditure incurred by the government, inter-state variations, and
the composition of work.
• The panel will also look into the argument that the cost of providing work under
MGNREGA has surged since the scheme was launched.
• It will provide recommendations on changes in focus areas and governance
structures to make MGNREGA more effective.
Swar Dharohar festival 2022
