Vocal Journey

I have never received vocal lessons before but I’ve loved singing ever since I was a

child. I’ve been part of a few choirs, and I was always put in the mezzo section. My range

didn’t seem to be too big but it was probably underdeveloped. I’ve always been

interested in music and playing with the orchestra and back in my country they used to

do a lot of operas and I played in a few. That’s when my interest in this kind of art really

started but I never knew how to get into it. Once I discovered music theater while being

here in Canada, I decided to take a chance on it because it is something that I really

wanted to try. In the program I was told I was a soprano, contrary to what I was

categorized before, and I started to work on my upper range. I’ve noticed I’ve opened a

lot and high notes are starting to become easier. I’ve also noticed how I’ve learned how

to change the quality of the sound in my voice, how to make it brighter, more opaque,

more opera-like, legit sound and contemporary. I’ve also discovered how to add a little

more weight into my voice and even work on my lower range a little bit too. I’ve worked

in repertoire for soprano mostly, songs like Waiting for my Dearie from Brigadoon, Much

More from The Fantastiks, My Lord and Master from the King and I, Breathe from In the
Heights, and everything Maria sings in West Side Story. However, I’ve also worked on

mezzo repertoire like Whatever Lola Wants from Damn Yankees, It’s a Perfect

Relationship from The Bells are Ringing, and the Miller's son from a Little Night Music. I

enjoy singing mezzo repertoire more but I want to develop my upper range more too. I

would also love to learn how to sing opera in the future too!
