Constellation
What is constelaltion?
A group of stars forming a recognizable
pattern that is traditionally named after
its apparent form or identified with a
Mythological Figure.
Constellation During Early
Civilization and Time
In Ancient times, constellations were used
to create and track the calendar so they
knew when to plant crops and harvest
them. Constellations were also used for
navigation and to help sailors travel
across oceans.
Early Filipino Belief in
Constellation
The stars and constellations dotting the sky
were named based on what they perceived,
and they used those as aids to keep track of
the time during fishing, farming, &
hunting seasons
Balatik in Tagalog
(Orion’s Belt)
Balatik is named after a hunting
trip. The constellation is used
by Filipino ancestors to
determine the beginning of
their harvest and planting
periods, while the christian
Filipinos named this as Tatlong
Maria or Tres Marias
Lepu by the “Matigsalug
Manobo” of Bukidnon.

It signifies the time to clean

or clear the fields while
waiting for the harvest time.
Movement of Stars

Diurnal motion is the daily motion of

stars and other celestial bodies across
the sky. This motion is due to the
