Then play the azimuth adjustment standard tape (eg., JVC's VIT-IS 10 kHz), and turn the adjustment serew (3) so tat ‘the output will become maximum. IF the azimuth adjustment standard tape is not availble, phy’ music casette, When treble respoase becomes optimum, set the adjustment screw. After this adjustment, the srew 2 should be locked with a bond. 6. Main Adjustments 4 Adjusting the Needle Deflection of the Level Meters Both right and let level meters ae so adjusted that the needles swing properly. But if any of the meter Darts is repalced, the meter may require adjustment ‘because ofa ight diference between the old and new adjustment is needed, take the fllowing steps Recording 1, Side the volume contro! knobs for both ioht and left channels so hat the volume will be at Apply signal to the miroptone jack, and check to se ifthe meter needles defect. 3. If both meter needles wll not swing evenly, aust the semifixed resistors (‘D and 4) alternately 39 that both needles defect evenly (See Fis. 12. ‘Turning the resistor in the diection of the arrow makes the needle swing far. For previ adjust ‘ment, its advisable to connnsct a 100 8 resistor across the head, and adjust the semitined resistors 1667, 15610 6 3) and @ so thatthe meter needle wil stay at 0 VU when the voltage across the 100 9 resistor is 4.5 mV at kl. After making sure that the meter needles swing during the recording opeation, adjust the volume contro knobs 0 thatthe needles stay at 0 VU. Then start recording 2 Next, play back the recorded portion, and make sure that the meter noodle: swingin the O VU zone 3, If both meter needles wil not deflect evenly, turn the somifxed sesstom ((Dand @)) in Fig, 12 alternately to set the needles to 0 VU, Turine the resistor in the ditectior of the artow makes the needle swing ie. 6-2, Input Level Adjustment ‘Tho DIN (RECIPB) input level is adjusted to 20 mV (signal source impedance 82 kM), but whe the ‘utpat of the amplifier is excessively lage, distortion may tke place before the volume control. In this case, the following steps shouldbe taken for adjustment 1, Plice the stereo set or the ampliir inthe reconding pessition, 2. IF the level meter needle swings beyond 0 VU withthe volume control stat “3” or less, aust the adjustment volume as shown in Fig 13 so thatthe meter noedl will not swing beyond O VU with the volume contol stat "S ~ 8” ‘The AUX IN jack input canbe adjusted in the sme manner 16-3. Recording Bias Curent Adjustment “The recording bis curent i adjusted properly, and therefore, no adjustment is required normally. Ifthe head or other parts are replaced, adjustment should be made in the following msanes, 1. Checking the bias current Place this unit in the recording position, and measure the AC voltage by V.TV.M across each head without applying recording input through the microphone or others. If the vollge measured is roughly as specie below, the bss curtent i considered to be norm Record head 12.V (normal te), 18 V (huome tape) Erase head av For this test, be sure 1o use a vacuum tube voltmeter which is soperior in high fequency characteris, 2, Adjusting the bias cuent [As shown in Fig 4, the oscillation circuit adjuster is ult inthe shield case-and adustment can be made by turning the semifixed volume contol. According to the tape sele:or switch position, itis necessary 10 make adjustment separately for the normal and chrome tapes, On the normal tape position (right), tuning the emi-‘ixed volume inthe direction of the arow increases the current, On the chrome tape poston (eft), turing itn the dieston ofthe arrow aso ncreses the current. soit Pe Bias current 5A sce" ‘ VIVM BC e Soncgh ' a1 01667, 16670 (6-4, Mechaniam Adjustment 1. Auto-Ejector 7-1, Theory of Detecting the Stop of Tape As illsteatd in Fig, 17, the turning force of the dis fon the take-up side is carted to the counter, by Which the toothed plate integrated with the counter pulley is tuned. The plate i provided withthe CaS detector clement on the upper side and the lamp on te lower side. As the plate curs, the CdS detector clement radiation i shut by the teth of the rotating plate, Thus the radiation goes on and off qulckly and transmits an AC sieal to the subsequent circuit a 2 detecting ina cos1667, ose 5 7-2, Theory of Contol Cecuit Operation “This circuit consists of thre transistor and two diodes as lustrated in Fi. 18. “The AC simnal from the CaS detector element Is amplified by Xs, and rectified through Ds and De, then being charged to Cro. As Cix is charged, it causes the bate voltage of Xs to ietease, and asa result, Xs ‘becomes conductive, but Ris (fesstr) causes the voltage to drop. Because of tis voltage drop, the base voltage also g00s down, and Xe cuts off the flow of current. Accordingly, nocurrent flows through the plunger (olenoi) connected in seis tothe collector Next, when no signal is transmitted, Ci2 is not changed, and the base voltage of Xo drops, making Xs nonsonductve. AS a esl, there will be no ‘voltage drop resulting from Rs nd the base voltage fof Xe rises, This makes Xe conductive and allowing the curent to flow tothe soknoid 7-3. Operation of Mechanism As the plunger moves up and dows, it causes the slide ‘bar to move. This slide bar movement releases the seen omen ‘operating buttons from the locked position and also nfcks the csstte holder, As theesetehoeris §— C_}-{_}-{_}-{ HA Set A+ gi SE Par ‘unlocked, the operating buttons are held stopped by ‘ane us their respective springs, and the cassotte holder is turned up, Fig 18 7-4, Symptoms causes by operation theory of this mechanism © The casete i ejected quicker at the end of fst forwand operation (or rwing than a the end of playback (or recording). This is caused by the difference in the level ofthe AC signal from the CdS ‘detector cement © With the pause button depressed, it is possible to fast forward and rewind the tape, but the contro incuit i notin aston, Thorefore, the calle isnot ejected at the end af rewinding, Be sure to release the pause button before the fast fora or rewinding operation. (If he castle not gected atthe end ofthe tape, the machine wil be damaged.) ‘© Avoid depresing the playback, rewind or fast forward button before turing on the power switch. (Otherwise, when the power switch turned on, the essetto may be suddenly jected, Uhus damaging ‘the machine 7-5. Checkups and Adjustments 1. Incase of disassembly or repair IC the dis, which is integrated with the counter pulley, Keeps stopping, the cassette is elected. Tis required (0 check whether the Coothed plate contacts the lamp, CAS detecta element or the bracket, becuase the lamp is positioned very close to the CdS detector element. Al check the counter for smooth rotation ater diassembly oF rpais. Since the CdS detector element tends to colet dust, clean it whenever repirsaraustments ae md, 2. Checking circuits for operation ‘When the rewinding operation approaches th end, the ejection of the caste tends to occur. Fortis reason, itis necessary to check the contol circuits for operation 3. Mechanism section the foad on the mechanism section i larger than the attraction of the plunger, the ato-jeétion will not take place. tn this case, check the fllowing points 9 1667, 1670 ) Check to sei he slide bar) retums to itshome position smoothly. If too tight, replace ‘he cassette holder (f} and look lever 2D Fig. 19 8. Noise Reduction System What isthe ANRS circuit ? ANRS stands for “Automatic Noe Reduction Sytem Noise takes many forms, that is, tobe produced in playback system, bias noise added in recording process, ant bulk noise pocsltr to the tape, The ANRS citcult is designed to reduce these noises ‘without impairing the frequency characteristics unlike a conventions hgh ile. ‘Thoory ofthe ANRS cleat Inthe ANRS circuit, whem the reconling signal level i high (that, the recording level is at 0 VU), the recording ANRS circult frequency characteristics show rather flat curves (See Fig 20), But if the sianal level ie lower, the recording is made by stresing the intermediate and high range of frequency sharacteristics. That i, when the recording level & lower, the intemediate and high ranges are ‘compressed. In this cae, the bis noise & also recorded, irrespective of the recording Accordingly, the signal/noise ratio improved in proportion to the depree of compression. To be more proese, when the recording level i 40 dB lower than the standard level, improvement ofthe sgal/nose ratio is 10 dB at 9 ~ 10K But ifthe tape 9 recorded & played back, the low level signal is stressed atthe intermediate and high range, ‘Therefore, in the ANRS playback system, the characteristics opposite to thse in the recording system isgven to reduce the frequency characteris ofthe fw evel sgl at the intermediate and high range (See Fig. 21). That the intermediate and high range is expanded. In this way, the bulk nose on the tape and transistor noise on the playback amplifier are both reduced and at the same time, the playback signal level is reduced to the origina inal evel. That, withoutimpaiing the orginal ina, the noise is duced a shown in Fig. 22 1667, 1667 0 unnseegnpotoiniont Fig. 21 ee Funetion of Each Block Refer tothe block diagram. Buffer Amplifier This is the emitter follower (2SC1335). It is designed to reduce the influence to the frst half stage of the system, and at the same time, make the filler circuit (consisting of the ANRS control circuit and oninear contol elements) operate correctly, NomLinear Control Elements and ANRS Control Circuit AAs nonlinear control elements, transistors X302 and X402, as well as 28C1335, are usd. AS DC Vo is applied to the circuit between the transistors B and F, the impedance Zce between Cand Eis varied by the impressed voltage Vas from = up 10. This theory i also applied to the AGC cru The high-pass filter is made up ofthe ANRS control ctcult and the sui varible impedance elements (ig. 23). This high-pass filter has such frequency characteristics that they vary according tothe value of the impressed voltage Vie, as indicated in Fiz 24. Note that the highpas iter has & loss of about 25, During the recording operation, a signal passes through this circuit, by which the intermediate and high frequencies ate amplified. During the playback operation, the high-pass filer inserted inthe feedback Joop of NF, and as a result it serves us a low-pass filter having the reversed frequency characteristics, Conttol Amplifier ‘The control amplifier isa circuit to generate the Vit which is improssd te the transistors, that i, sominear contol elements, In this circuit, the signal voltages amplified by 1C(IC302 and 402), anda DDC control voltage is produced bythe voltage doubler rectification of diodes, D301, 302,401, and 402. ‘This DC control voltage i varied by Sembfixed volume controls, R31 and 415, The rectifier circuit has constant circuits, C316, 416, R317 and 417 so that the control voltage has « proper transient characteristic. In addition, bias taps, L301, 401, C317 and 417, are provided tp keop the ANRS circuit free from adverse effects causod by bis leaks. As part of the control amplifier, it as circuit, rom which @ DC bis is applied to transistors of variable Impedance elements. This bias curent can be Yared by semitixed resistors, R320 and 420. Uf Zee is {oo great, the output ofthe high-pass filter exceeds 10 dB, and therefore, by adjusting the bias cutent, the output is kept at 10 au eo667, 16670 Adjusting the ANRS Circuit ‘Measuring instruments required for adjustment ‘Audio owilator (OSC), atenuator (ATT), highsenstvity vacuum tube vlineter, and oxilloscops Connection Remove the wires of input side of the ANRS, and connect wies as illustrated in Fig. 25.
