Official errata to “The Perfect Sky” was presented in The Book of Drastic Resolutions: Volume Prax and
an Official, Final listing was given in a “Q&A” on the Glorantha.com website in 1999, available at:

However, these errata were not taken up in the later edition of The Glorious Reascent of Yelm (despite
numerous points incorporated into the Guide to Glorantha and other sources.) These changes are
incorporated here, revising the text of the original. (Footnotes are retained from the Moon Design edition of
The Glorious Reascent of Yelm, but do not follow the same numbering, as some stars have moved within
the list, and additional footnotes have been added from the errata and other sources.)
Some stars from the published version were removed (e.g., Ervegus, Delarvus, Scours to Rock, and
Whisperers). As noted in the online Q&A, this does not mean they do not exist, any more than “missing”
stars like the Twinstar! Rather, they either were not one of the 100 visible bodies at that time (becoming
visible later, as Artia did), or else Plentonius omitted them from his list so that he could include other stars.
Other changes are stylistic, or made for the sake of consistency. Thus, stars are named in their title
(where names are available in The Glorious Reascent of Yelm or other relevant documents), and text added
for the new entries. Additionally, some text in the original document clearly does not originate with
Plentonius but a later commentator, and thus has been separated out into footnotes or boxed text.

Eurmal recommends that you print these pages out and just paste or tape or Glue them
right on top of pages 47-52 of The Glorious Reascent of Yelm v3 (Moon Design Edition).

 The Perfect Sky
We are the blessed, for we are the first mortals to live once again
under the Sky of Perfection. Our earth no longer shakes and
moves, the seasons remain in place, the monsters and invaders
have been driven away. Our rice paddies leap to grain under our
hands. Healthy children abound. Bees are everywhere. Perfec-
tion surrounds us. God sits on his Throne to oversee the good
of mankind.
The proof of our Perfection can be seen in the sky over-
head. Scholars and seers everywhere agree that there are now
100 celestial bodies. When Yelm the One Hundred ruled, long
ago, there were exactly one hundred bodies in the Sky. Now
there are one hundred again, and so the old times return and
stability reigns.144 Here are the One Hundred Bodies, as enu-
merated by the Star Seers of Yuthuppa.
The Forty-Nine145
The first forty-nine deities are also called the Reliable Deities.
These 49 were the deities which were recognized by the earli-
est Star Seers of Yuthuppa. They could be relied upon to appear
in certain places, if both the storm clouds and drifting kazkur-
tumite darkness allowed visibility. By this observation we can
see that the ancient Star Seers had discovered that the sky was
rotating. This would have been a remarkable realization,
because the sky had not done so before the Darkness. The fact
that they knew this is one of the proofs that they have always
been in contact with their god, whom we call Dayzatar.
These are the Original Stars of the elder times. Many hun-
dreds of others have appeared since then, but these are now gen-
erally the brightest stars in the Sky (except, of course, for those
few that have faded or disappeared since then).
The Inner Circle are the first three deities, those closest to
the Pure Heavens. Subsequent stars to appear in the area have
been recognized to be their assistants.
The other forty-six include 22 stars recognized as individ-
uals, and 24 included only as part of one of five multi-star con-
stellations. Of those constellations, four are monsters and the
last is Lestakus, the brave Hunter.

lore has provided the basis for later knowledge.

1. Polaris, the Pole Star
First of the Great Stars of the Inner Circle
Polaris was the first celestial body to return to the dark sky and

destroy the darkness of Kazkurtum. True then, true now, it is the
center of the Sky and the axis of our cosmos. He is the General
of the Sky, Keeper of the Sky Dance, Post Top, and Star General.
2. Arraz, the Worker
Second of the Great Stars of the Inner Circle

Brother to Yelm, weak and willing to serve. He used to be King
of the Sky, but abdicated when Kazkurtum ruled. He was suc-
ceeded by Pole Star, who has taken the Post Throne in the cen-
ter of the Sky. Yet Arraz remains as one of the most powerful
stars, close to the center, and is still King of the Sky People.
3. Ourania, the Queen of Heaven

Third of the Great Stars of the Inner Circle
She is the virginal daughter of Dayzatar, created of his wisdom
to rule the Sky with her brother, Polaris.
4. Oropum, the Porridge Star
This is also called Evandal146 and was called Yuthuppa’s Mother
in the old texts. This was the first Reliable Star recognized out-

5. Everina, the Rice Mother
This is the home of the goddess of rice. She came down at
Yushargos from this star and taught people to worship her again.

6. Conspirator, the Spy
The unluckiest star. Before the cities, when the Stargazers saw
this they would know that an ill wind was coming their way.

Burburstus and the Virtue Stars

known beforehand, nor were they popular afterwards.147

The more common designation for this large constella-
tion is “Burburstus” with each star designated as a part of
the dragon.148 (These more common designations are also
given as subtitles in the entries below.) From Plentonius’

description it is clear that he was familiar with the more
common designations. It has been suggested that his
description is actually at one with the description below,
with the dragon constellation interpreted to be the Throne
of Yelm. (Mundanists149 speculate that he was trying to
more closely tie together the Gods Wall of Raibanth with

Yuthuppan star lore.) Here is a more popular and wide-
spread explanation, taken from a later astronomy manual:
“ Burburstus came from under the earth and beyond
the shadow. It flew upward to destroy the perfection of
Yelm. It was a loathsome and frightening thing, the first
monster ever seen in the universe. It intended to destroy

Yelm, but the Young God was not frightened, and
instead fought back. He opened his extra eye, brought
out the Eight Lights, and without touching the vile
creature he slew it, cut it into pieces, and made the best
parts into his throne.150 After he took his place, his eight
sons sat enthroned around him.”

Urnbudud, the Thunderer
When the gods fought, Urnbudud156 cut the rim of the Sky
loose from its bindings to make it turn. Then Urnbudud went
across the Sky, striking down whoever displeased him. That is
why the Desert is so empty today. But later the Young God
bound him to the Sky, where we see it now.

28. Varnaga, the Crocodile157
This is the lair of the Crocodile, the hidden monster which
lurks within, ever ready to snatch its prey and drag it to a
hideous death. Even if the victim is not devoured whole he will
probably be ripped to shreds, for this infernal creature has two
hundred sharp teeth and iron jaws which clamp onto its prey
and do not let loose even if it is slain, and once attached it
spins itself around and around with its powerful tail, and when
it rips a man’s whole leg out by the joint the blood can shoot
out for almost twenty feet, and drench those innocents stand-
ing nearby, and such blood is so poisoned by the monster’s
venom that it can almost never be scrubbed clean.
29. Galgarenge, the Griffin158
The rival sought to disrupt the Sky, but was bound into her
place by Truth.
30. Ubisus, the Bull
The wild Bull was a threat to the peace of the world until it was
pinned in place here. After that there were no threats from the
barbarians.159
31. Oasis, the Waterhold Star
This is the Waterhold Star, where the Young God is refreshed
each year.
32. Thasus, the Far Traveler
The star of the Founder, Buserian’s grandson. He is called the
Wise One, Bearer of the Lost Light, and the Far Traveler.
Bakoka, the Scorpion
Bakoka160 invaded the world, picking among the ruins of the
Desert. She could not cross water. The Young God fights her here.

The beautiful star, which answered the Empress’ plea and
saved her and her people.

This is the Young God who stabilized the heavens and accom-
plished many other deeds, and then set his chair in this place,
where he rests. He gets up once a year to cross the Sky and
view his domain.

Lestakus is the god who controls the monsters and other crea-
tures of the Forest. When his greatest prey sought refuge in the
Sky Lestakus went there too. Because it was his own home, he

all immortalized in the dome.162

terrorized the Stargazers, who feared the whole edifice of the
firmament would topple again. They were provoked by their
fear to record their current image of the Sky, in case the gods
needed help later.
The first star was called the Disruptor, because it was ad-

verse to the rest of Buserian’s calculations. Subsequent addition-
al stars finally brought the Star Gazers to recognize this as the
Broken Ring, also called Rebellus Terminus, or Umatum.166

This is an orange star, part of the Broken Ring, whom the bar-
barians call Oralanatus. This is the first of a cluster of erratic
stars which are still not yet attached properly to the dome,
though they are at the center of the Sky every 7 days before
they are cast down, invisibly, for another seven.

Lightfore and Kargzant
The planet called Lightfore appears here, out of the temporal
sequence used for the other 51 later stars. This spot was orig-

inally filled by Kargzant, which had been prominent, but was
no longer visible by Plentonius’ time.167

51. Lightfore, the Little Sun
The bright god rose and went to War against the destructive

god Kargzant. At first Lightfore was timed exactly opposite to
Kargzant, so that one rose when the other set. But slowly Light-
fore drew Kargzant to him, so that his erratic movements had
to come to time with Lightfore’s. Thus, in 111,111 Kargzant dis-
appeared as a separate entity, chained to be Lightfore’s slave.
52. Ertelenari, the Bear
This is the Bear which measured the quarters and made all the

wild animals. The ignorant call it Arakang.168

A part of the Tree, which grew from the Seed of Erenbaya.

54. Raider Star, part of the Broken Ring
The Outlaw of the Sky was joined by his first follower. This is
another part of the Broken Ring.169
55. Shargash, the Protector
The Protector arrived to settle the heavens. At first (110,787170)
it was dim, but it got brighter and bigger very slowly until at last
it was greater than Kargzant. It was accompanied by the Old Sol-
diers. They all eventually departed, some being promoted to
become fixed stars. Shargash is the greatest of the Wanderers.171
56. Anaxial, the Emperor
Our blessed Emperor sails his Yuthu-ship along the Celestial
River and defines the length of a day.172
57. Dragon’s Head, part of the Broken Ring
The enemies of Order were reinforced by our foe, the Dragon.173
This is an evil star, mutant in its color, erratic in its pose. It
blocks out all the light of stars near to it.174
58. Lokarnos, the Timekeeper
Here is the Timekeeper, who came back to us again in 110,790.
He was big when he rose, and he grew bigger. He is slow and
ponderous175 but utterly reliable.176

became constant again in 1042 S.T., much slower than it
had been at the Dawn; and one night in 112,051 it
“jumped” across the Sky without crossing the intervening
space. It has not moved strangely since, but is now indeed
“slow and ponderous” taking 98 days to cross the Sky and
then spending another 98 days in the Underworld.
59. the Cold Man, gathered at the Pot
He was the first of the survivors to gather at the Pot.
The Jumpers
The rising and falling pattern of the Jumpers was finally recog-
nized in 110,822. They do not rotate with the rest of the dome,
and so perplexed many for years. Prior to being recognized, they
had been counted among the many Erratic Bodies.177
60. Theya, the Dawn Star
When the Eastern Horizon began to glow regularly, the hearts
of all who dared to hope were filled with strength and courage.
Soon Theya could be seen leaping into the Sky. Some thought
that this body would one time leap upward and travel all the
way to the summit and be the new Sun, but they were wrong.
61. Erindamus, the Dog Star178
The Loyal Servant defends the south for his masters. He was ac-
cepted into the Reliable Stars when his pattern was recognized.
62. Rausa, the Dusk Star
The Red One. An unlucky star to shine on your fate. She was
Reliable after her leaping pattern was discerned.
63. Kalikos, the North Star
The Northern Leaping Star was accepted into the Reliable Stars
when its pattern was recognized.
The Awakeners179
Numbers 64 through 70 are sometimes called the (Early) New
Stars, but more often are called Awakeners for their part in pre-
paring for the Dawn. All appeared or were recognized within a
year and a half, followed by the Dawn.180

Because of the brightness of the Sun, it is never visible to
the naked eye and hence is mostly unknown.

but mainly that it disappeared about the time of the first
Dawn. Only the star seers of Yuthuppa (who can see the
stars during the day), the worshipers of the dog god Jaja-
gappa in Saird, and some of the followers of Shargash
know that it still defends the south. When it was visible,
this jumper was a green star-like body. If the star seers of
Yuthuppa spoke of such things to outsiders, they would
acknowledge that it is now red.

The early sky was full of many swirling bits of shapeless debris,
both good and evil. They were usually extinguished by the
Young God, although many crashed down upon the earth. How-
ever, among all the dashing debris one small and immortal bit
attracted others to gather around itself. This was the Heart of

Ethelsora, and as it grew it became stronger than it had been
before. At the urging of Entekos she moved upon the Planetary

Path, to conform to the rules of the world. But unlike other
deities who had died, Ethelsora was made totally of Life, and so
she could not enter the Underworld, where that Path always

led. Thus, when she first traversed the heavens, upon reaching

the Western Gates she did not enter them, but as her body dis-
appeared in the west it simultaneously reappeared upon the
eastern horizon, rising. She had not traversed the Underworld,
as proved by her immediate re-appearance in the east. Thus, she
proved how powerful were the Old Powers, and prepared the
world to come together again. She reappeared again to us in this
