Intermittent changes in reception aly normally ae caused by these external influences. RADIO RECEPTION Your INFINITI radio system is equipped with siate-otthe-att electonic cicuts to enhance radio reception. These clrcls are designed to extend reception range, and to entance the quality of that reception However thre are some general characteristics of bath FM and AM radio signals that can afect radio reception quality in a moving vehicle, even when the finest equipment is used. These characteristics ae completely normal ina given reception area, and do not indicate any mal function in your JNFINET radio system Remember that a moving vehicle is not the ideal place to listen to a radi. Because ofthe ‘movement, reception conditions will constantly change. Buildings, terrain, signal distance and intederence from other vehicles can work against ideal reception. Described below are some of the factors that can affect your radio reception 37 [MAXIMUM SIONAL STANCES 25 20 ale 101648 im) (SAM 6 10130 ml 7 t 209 km) Foren FM RADIO RECEPTION Range: FM range is normaly lite to 25 to 30 miles (40 to 48 kr), with monaural (single channel) FM having sighty more range than sleteo FM. Extesnat influences may sometimes interfere with FM station reception even tthe FM station is within 25 miles (40 km). The strength ofthe FM signal Is deci related to the distance between the wansmiter and 1e- ceiver. FM signals follow a fine-tsight path, exibiing many ofthe same characteristics 2s HEATER, AIR CONDITIONER AND AUDIO SYSTEM light, For example they will elect off objects. Fade ard dit: As your vehicle moves away trom a station wransmite, the signals will end to fade and/or dri, Stale and fuer: Outing signal intererence from buildings, trge hills or due to antenna, positon, usually in conjunction with increased istance from the staon transmitter, static or flutter can be heard. This can be reduced by ajusting the TREBLE contol counterclockwise to reduce treble response. \Mutipath reception: Because of the rellective characeistics of FM signals, diect and re ‘igcted signals rach the recelver at the same tine, The signals may cancel each ther, resulting in momentary futer ot foss of sound. AM RADIO RECEPTION ‘AM signals, because of their low frequenay, can “bend” around objets and skip along the ‘ground. In aaitio, the signals can be bounced of the ionosphere and bent back ext, Because of these characteristics. AM signals ae also subject to interterence as they travel from transmitir 10 receiver. Fading: Oceuts while the vehicle is passing ‘through freeway underpasses or in areas with many ‘all buildings, It can also occur for several seconds during ionospheric turbulence even in areas where no obstacles exist Static: Caused by thunderstorms, electrical bower lines, eecte signs and wen tac tts.
