Drug Education Project

* Directions: Learn about how drugs impact the lives of people, affect our society, how and why they are
being used to educated ourselves of the impact that drugs can have in life. Use either
slides/keynote/binder/poster board to present your project to the class.

Part 1-Drug Research:

1. Description of Drug (appearance, where does it come from, what is in it)

2. How is the drug made? (man-made, grown from a plant, manufactured from a plant, is it cut with other
drugs or chemicals?)

3. What type of drug is it? (classifications: stimulant, depressant, opiate, hallucinogen, etc.)
*define the classification

4. How is the drug used and why do people use it? (smoked, snorted, injected, swallowed, absorb into
your skin etc.)

5. How does your body react to the drug? (What does the drug do to your brain, breathing, eyes, your
body, your mind, etc. health effects, are their withdrawals from not using the drug, side effects?)

6. 3 key statistics about the drug. (how many people are using the drug, how many addicted the drug, in
rehab for the drug etc.)

7. List at least 5 street names for the drug. (slang words)

8. What can be done to help? (treatment)

9. Find 3 key terms related to the drug and define the terms.

10. Legalization/illegalization- what laws are put into place for this drug? Do you agree or disagree with
the reasoning for the legalization or illegalization of the drug?

11. Are there medicinal uses for this drug? If so, what are they? Do you agree or degree with the drug
being used this way?
(Be specific! Act as though no one in the class knows anything about the drug! Any extra information about
the drug is encouraged such as images, diagrams, statistics, interesting facts etc.)
Part 2-Influences:

● Provide examples from the following to show how each creates the impression that drugs are either
encouraged or discouraged by society.

12.Educational video, Movie Clip or Television Clip or Commercial- Pick a video show in which drugs or alcohol
are being used. Show the video clip and explain how they are depicting the the drug.
*Videos have to be clean/edited approved by and played by Mr. Williams.

13.News Article – Find a news article related article in which a story was written about this drug. Include a
brief summary of the article, picking out the key points. (Topics to look for: abuse of the drug, medical uses,
statistics etc.)

Part 3-Celebrity Biography:

14. List 1 famous person that has been greatly affected by this specific drug use. Make a slide for the
biography for this person. Include major details of their career. Focus specially on the events leading up to
the drug use. Please write in your own words!

Part 4-Influence of Music:

15. Provide ONE example of popular music from any decade. Include the name of the song, the musician and
the year it was popular. Select a clean version of the song to play for the rest of the class. Obtain the lyrics of
the song and highlight all of the terms used to refer to drugs. List the terms of the song that are drug
references and define them for the class. Be specific in explaining the lyrics! (What does the song mean?
What is it trying to say? How does the song influence our culture?) *Songs have to be clean/edited approved
by and played by Mr. Williams.
*-Lyrics only highlight the ones related to the drug or play the lyric video.

Part 5-Create an Action Plan (Letter, one page typed):

16. Develop strategies to reduce the influence that our society has in creating an environment portraying
drugs as “normal” everyday life. List things that can be done in our community to raise awareness on drug
issues. The action plan should include a letter written to someone that can help with your plan. Suggestions
include; letter to the editor of a newspaper, radio station, TV channel. Also movie director, role models,
addicts, recovering addicts, celebrities, police department, musicians or politicians. The letter must be written
as though it is going to be sent to the individual. If you wish to send the letter, and you receive a reply, you will
be awarded with bonus points! *Letter must at least by five sentences long.

Part 6-Evaluation:

17. Each group will be required to have a short form of review or evaluation (such as a worksheet, Kahoot,
Quizlet Live, Jeopardy or questions at the end of your slideshow), for the rest of the class, regarding their drug
topic. 5 question minimum, 10 question maximum.

Valium, Morphine etc.) 5. Tobacco (nicotine) cigarettes, cigars, hookah, chew, snuff) 6. Ecstasy/MDMA/Molly
7. Synthetic drugs/Designer drugs (man made-such as K2-Spice/Bath Salts) 8.Anabolic Steroids 9.Alcohol
10.Heroin 11.Inhalants 12.Methamphetamines (Crystal Meth) 13.Amphetamines 14.Barbiturates
15.Promethazine and Codeine (aka syrup, lean, sizzurp, or purple drank) 16. Vaping 17.Opium 18.Quaaludes

Other Important Info: Remember that you are teaching the class! Be creative!, Presentations should take
approximately 10 minutes if done correctly. Technology use and/or visual aids are required. Organization and
knowledge of topic are very important to your grade.

Extra Credit: (1 point for each topic covered) *You must label your extra credit it your slides to be graded
-Interview someone or find an interview with questions about someone who has used the drug.

-Include a drug bust story about the drug.

-What would it be like to detox from the drug (withdrawal from the drug).

-Write a poem or letter or write rap or song.

-Information on drug lacing.

-What companies or people manufacture these drugs?

-Find a rehabilitation/recovery story and summarize it.

-Find an overdose story and summarize it.

-What are the various strains or forms of this drug?

-Where did the drug originate from?

-What would it be like to be high on this drug?

-Have a before and after picture of a person who was on the drug then off the drug.

-Name three other famous people who have been affected by this drug.

-Advertising Parody – choose an advertisement from a magazine or the internet, and recreate it to show us

the truth about the product. You may draw it yourself, or use Photoshop type software. (If none found, create

an image that shows valid information about your drug).
