Green Credits – Sustainable Living

Rewarding Water Conservation, Reduction of Pollution (Vehicular, Industrial)

Optimal usage of water, reducing grey water generation, treating and recycling of grey water, collection, storage of rain
water through creating earth dams in residential, agriculture and industrial places ; mandatory to create earth dams by bulk
water users like food processing industry, promoting less water incentive staple diet Millets, reducing cultivation of Rice
Wheat and Sugar, promoting Palm Jaggery replacing cane sugar and cane jaggery; Ban manufacture of cola drinks, regulating
manufacture, sale and purchase of bottled water. Rewarding people for plantation of trees, kitchen and terrace gardening
Rewarding people for use of bicycles, mass mode transport, penalising use of personal vehicles for causing excess pollution,
reduction of pollution by mandatory periodic maintenance of all vehicles, Reducing industrial pollution via Carbon Credits

Government of India, initiated the concept of “Green Credits” to provide market-driven

rewards (monetary benefits) for environmental protection, reduction of Carbon Footprints
to people and organisations, voluntarily adopting environment protection measures like
conserving water, reducing vehicular pollution etc, ideas conceptualised in 2016 (Vehicular
Carbon Credits, Water Credits by me – Pradeep Kumar Kunche Think Social Engineering Think Me
I have suggested measures for reduction of air pollution, and conservation of water through
my documents “Measures to contain Vehicular Pollution” Year 2015 and “Water for All”
year 2016 and "Uniform Standard By-Laws & Regulations for Residential Welfare
Associations / Gated Community/Apartment Associations" – Nov 2016 “ and “Clean Air for
All” year 2021, aimed to achieve the object of ensuring fresh water, clean air available to
all sections of people, organisations, for sustainable better living.
I have suggested “Vehicular carbon credits” in my document Uniform Standard By-Laws &
Regulations for Residential Welfare Associations / Gated Community/Apartment
Associations" – Nov 2016 “ to incentivise people who are reducing air pollution and penalise
through who are causing air pollution to reduce vehicular pollution and industrial pollution
and “Water Credits” for incentivising people who are conserving water, reducing the
generation of grey water, and preserving natural water like rainwater, creating earth dams
and penalising those who use excess water.
Appreciations for Government of India for brining “Green Credits” for incentivising people,
and organisations for their efforts to reduce air pollution and for conserving water
translating my vision into a reality for reducing carbon footprints and reducing water stress.
This concept of “Green credits” (for conserving water/ reducing air pollution, planting green
trees etc all kinds of environmental protection) will encourage people, and organisations
to adopt responsible behaviour and environmental protection, enabling the reduction of
carbon footprints voluntarily and enthusiastically, a game changer in environmental
protection, a Win-Win for people, organisations, Nation, enabling sustained living.
The proposed concept of “Water Credits” -WC (My Document Uniform Standard By-Laws
& Regulations for Residential Welfare Associations / Gated Community/Apartment
Associations" – Nov 2016) is simple, effective, enabling people/ organisations to save
water and get credits, those who use Excess water than average water must pay some
amount for those who are conserving, for example, the average consumption is 700 litres
per day in residential water, i.e 21,000 litres per month, if anyone household saves water
by various standard means and reduces fresh water consumption to 11,000 litres per

month, they get certain fixed base value Water Credit points for saving 10,000 litres,
similarly adopting methods of conservation, recycling of waste water etc will also earn
certain Water Credit points, reducing the generation of grey water will get certain water
credit points. For this Govt must ensure water meters for all types of water to assess
storage and usage (municipal, groundwater, stored rainwater); Also providing Green
credits for collection, storage of rain water will encourage people to make mini earth dams
in every RWA, every independent house, apartment to store collect and store rain water.
Also providing green credits for reducing black water and grey water and minimum
treatment and recycle and use grey water for gardening, toilet flushing (ideal to design
direct flushing of grey water without storage in commodes to prevent bacterial growth),
will reduce fresh water usage and reduce fresh water turning to black water
The value of water credits (Now onwards termed as Green Credits) can be enhanced by
people/ organisations based on demand for water credits, (green credits) then only this
concept of water credits (green credits) be sustained and enable self-revenue generation
without the need for support from the government using tax paid money. Govt must make
it mandatory excess water users to buy the green credits from people who possess water
credits (Green Credits) at demand-driven dynamic price which is determined by every
individual water-credits holder. in case excess water users unable to obtain water credits
they have to pay a heavy fixed additional amount (to be levied by Govt) for excess water
consumption (above average consumption). The idea is basically to restrict people to use
water judiciously within limits. GOI must make measures to ensure people monetize green
credits with global carbon credits in future.
Govt must establish a standard online exchange system like stock market can be termed
as “Green credit exchange system” for ensuing effortless open transactions between
sellers and buyers of green credits, this measure enables green credits value enhanced by
people within the upper threshold limit – which is an additional cost levied by Govt for
excess water consumption. The amount collected be distributed in the same category, like
household, commercial foods, industry, etc to all who are possessing water credits.
The value of Water credits (Green Credits) earned may vary based on demand and season,
in summer the value is more due to the short supply of water, and credits value varies based
on the price they are paying for water during the month. This will make people stick to the
limits of adopting judicious usage of water or pay for those who are conserving. In the
process of further reducing average consumption of water in the same category (domestic,
commercial, industrial, and agriculture etc) further incentivise by increasing credit values
among the same category creating healthy competition every year
Similarly proposed Vehicular carbon credits- VCC (my vision document Uniform Standard
By-Laws & Regulations for Residential Welfare Associations / Gated Community/Apartment
Associations" – Nov 2016) is to encourage people use mass mode transport, make sure
people who are causing pollution due to use of personal vehicles will compensate for
people who are using bicycles, mass mode transport and to some extent E vehicles (as e
vehicles uses electricity and most electricity generated from fossil fuel like coal, biomass);
the concept proposed by me is simple, people be provided unified transport card and this

card is bio metric based and every person in country holds this card, which need to be
swiped when uses any public mode transport, auto, taxi, bus, rail , air and people who own
vehicles must swipe their vehicle registration and driving licence in fuel stations to obtain
fuel issued, record milage done to ascertain the average emission from each vehicle; for
this there should be central petroleum fuels network authority integrating all petroleum
fuel stations to record online real time fuel issued to each vehicle (by creating “Central
Petroleum fuels Network Authority”) and every fuel station should record milage done by
every vehicle before fuel dispensation by default for fuel dispensation, in addition there
should be mandatory periodic maintenance of every vehicle to ensure efficient function of
vehicle engine, lube oils, parts function, this measure reduce emissions, and the fuel
stations will stop issue of fuel in case of no periodic maintenance, (Suggested in my
Document “Simple Effective Reforms for Controlling Corruption” Year 2011), also every fuel
station should do randomised checks at fuel station for emissions in period between two
periodic checks (periodic check once in three months or based on milage done, every 5,000
kilometres), till entire vehicles are EV or Hydrogen in next 50 years
The fixed value vehicular carbon credits (Green Credits) be given to people who are using
mass mode transport, who are using bicycles, or who are barefoot to reach their education,
employment or other purposes., also people who own vehicles also get vehicular carbon
credits for using mass mode transport in spite owing vehicles (example if they wish to go
for outstation 500 kilometres, use a mass mode like bus/ rail instead of a personal
vehicle, this reduce the amount of fuel burnt and carbon emission compared to personal
vehicles, this encourages people who own vehicle to use mass mode transport. For
determining Vehicle Carbon credits, need to use per capita VMT – Vehicle Miles Travelled
(excluding goods transport) as a base, for the purpose of Green credits VMT per capita is
the average miles travelled by all passenger vehicles population in the country per
day/week/month, people who use personal vehicles must limit their milage (per day, per
week, per month) below the VMT average, any excess mileage attracts penalty in the form
of buying credits from people who earned vehicular carbon credits by travelling in mass
mode or using bicycles or barefoot, and persons who are causing pollution must pay for
non-polluters by purchasing credits for excess miles done (excess of VMT per capita) the
value of the Vehicular carbon credits be dynamic based on demand by the people who are
causing pollution (to buy fuel they need to obtain VCC), in case fail to get VCC, they pay
excess amount fixed by Govt (above fixed rate of petroleum fuels) and excess amount
accumulated be distributed to all VCC holders for their efforts to reduce vehicular pollution
The same kind of methodology (like VCC) be applied to industries which are using water for
Water credits, and to industries which are causing air pollution for Carbon Credits, each
category wise, each type/sub-type of industry like commercial food centres, vehicle service
centres, food processing industry, and industries like chemicals, cement etc have different
credits. Water Credits for commercial and industrial use depend upon the source of water
(groundwater, municipal tap water, stored rainwater (earth dams), or desalinated water.
Government must make it mandatory all bulk water users commercial or process industry
or any manufacturing must replenish at least 50% of their water through creating earth

dams or establishing of desalination plants and supplying water in other parts to offset their
water consumption from freshwater sources as part of special water credits, this will help
reduce water scarcity, ensure ground water table is increased, reduces water scarcity. GOI
must opt stringent measures for bottled water manufacture, sale and usage, with
mandatory to use only saved rain water, river water or desalinated water for bottled water
manufacture, and all sale must be online real time with bar code reading, through App
based buying/ selling, enforcing all manufactures to obtain necessary statutory license, and
legal manufacture of bottled water using authorised source of water maintaining the
quality standards of bottled water, GOI make it mandatory to return used plastic water
bottles via refundable one time deposit, failure to return will lose deposit, anywhere
return, will enable better recycling of used plastic water bottles; Green credits for rising
creepers on outer walls of homes, terrace gardening to reduce surface temperature, Green
Credits for connecting air condition drain in series in high rise buildings, office buildings to
collect Drain water (pure water) to use for cleaning, gardening, more useful in summers.
Green Credits for tree plantations (as proposed by Govt), to reward tree growers are
welcome, but limitations due to space constraint, however useful for residential
independent houses, apartments and municipal roads/ parks, industrial areas, spiritual
places, Green credits for plantation should be based on number trees/ area of coverage,
GOI make fixed number of trees and type of trees people can grow trees in residential
houses and apartment complexes, RWA in common areas like open areas and on the
internal roads, only certain verity of trees whose roots do not cause disturbance to the
compound walls, underground water tanks only should be allowed to plant in residential
areas, also green credits for plantation based on usage of tree (shade, medical purpose,
fresh air) tress like neem, eucalyptus, pipal trees, bhilva, which provide medical values,
fresh air; whereas trees like moringa, guva, goose berry (amla), mango etc leaves used for
green decoctions, fruits used for consumptions, Also trees selection should be strictly
based on the soil condition, and rain fall, surplus water availability, no pollen shedding etc.
Green Credits for rising Agro forests in private lands, Govt should provide barren lands to
people (especially for unemployed youth) for free long lease for developing agro forests.
Govt must include terrace gardening/kitchen gardening in Green Credits for raising food
plants (like curry leaves, spinach, Amarant, red Roselle, mint, fenugreek, coriander, spring
onions, ginger, turmeric etc), green credits based on the quantity of raising in pots or open
areas, credits be given before harvesting, with checks, monitoring system to limit
manipulation, credits be fixed value one-time credits per year.
Green Credits to kitchen gardening will encourage majority of people especially women
and retired/ elderly at home to raise kitchen gardening at home, apartment, will bring good
health due to consumption of leafy greens, even just taking decoctions (few leafs in 100 ml
of water, boil for 3 minutes, strain leafes and consuming it, one type of leaf every day for
week, and rotate, will boost immunity and provide micro nutrients, and antioxidants, help
reduce occurrence of health disorders, especially cancers, regular consumption of leafy
green provide required micronutrients, reduces eye disorders, constipation.

The trees and terrace gardening in every RWA or independent house, municipal park, and
industrial zone must use cached rainwater (storage of rainwater flowing from terrace to
ground in the underground storage tanks in rain areas, creating earth dams in open places,
this will help in reducing dependence on freshwater for trees and plants) and the credits
be exchangeable for water credits and for vehicular carbon credits
Also, for farmers Green Credits can be given for rising crops with less water requirement
like millets, and also for SIRI cultivation of rice etc with different credits based on water
consumption of the filed / per acre, low water required crops gets more water credit,, also
more credits for creation of earth dams by farmers in their own land (ideal GOI make it
mandatory to create earth dams in farm lands to store rain water in all rain areas, ( since
it is practically unviable for small farm holdings to cater part of their land to create to earth
dam, creation of Village Agriculture Cooperative Associations – VACA by clubbing adjacent
farm lands say 0.5 acre, 0.75 acre etc to form a large holding of at least 10 acres single
unit, where in VACA ¼ of the land be used for raising cash crops like fruits and vegetables,
leafy greens etc where managing the farm is easy, reduces stress in farmers, better water
resources and better pest management, and regular income, some farmers in the group
can engage in marketing, making of products from the farm produce, farm residues etc for
additional income (need for VACA cultivation suggested in my doc “Food for All” year 2012).
Water credits (Green Credits) value in the farm sector is based on the usage of use of bio
pesticides, bio fertilizers etc, Govt must create a separate labour force that trained and
provided safety gear to use chemical fertilizers in farms, with mandatory for farmers to
source the Govt service for spraying chemical fertilisers, pesticides, fungicides with a fixed
cost for service and material cost, and expert advice how much quantity of
material required with a ban on lose the sale to farmers will not only relive health hazards
due to pesticides usage by farmers, farm labour, but also help in reduced quantity usage,
and assured quality, this improves crop output, this measure help farms prefer for
biofertilizers ( they can spay or use service), one time incentives (green credits) per crop,
and the credits be exchangeable for water credits and for vehicular carbon credits.
Government must encourage people to Adopt “Millet” (replacing Rice, Wheat) as a staple
diet, Govt must promote the cultivation, production, and usage of “Palm Jaggery”
(replacing White Sugar) Govt initiate systematic measures for reducing the cultivation of
Rice, Wheat and Cane Sugar (50% reduction in total acreage/production) in a fixed time of
10 years, as this will reduce water stress as Rice, Wheat, Sugar cane consume several times
more water compared to millets, and millets hardily require few hundreds of litres per acre,
can be grown in limited rain / rain shadow, arid, semi-arid lands, millets are complex
carbohydrates with low glycaemic index, slow release of glucose to blood, help recover
from insulin resistance, pre diabetic.
Majority of people having insulin resistance and pre diabetic, but they are unaware due to
lack of mandatory periodic diagnostic tests for all citizens, especially blood, majority of
people are living with these two health disorders, over a period of time turn into diabetics,
PCOD, ovarian cysts, fibroids, etc; white sugar, cane jaggery which contain chemicals and
empty carbohydrates, are root causes of several health issues, especially insulin resistance

and pre diabetic, and white sugar is root cause of excess fat in the body (excess sugars
greater than 5 mg per day gets converted into fats and deposited all over the body, foods
we eat with carbohydrates provide daily required five (5) gm of sugar and no need to take
any extra any type of sugar in any form), white sugar and cane jaggery are root cause of
belly fat, obesity, plaque formation in arteries, rise of bad cholesterol and triglyceride
leading to complicated health issues like BP, heart, stroke erectile dysfunction, depression
etc, whereas with palm jaggery which require hardly any water and few spells of rain water
is sufficient, so replacing white sugar production with palm jagger will save billions of litres
of fresh water, palm jaggery is more healthy due to more nutrients due to less processing
and less glucose, more fructose.
Also replacing white sugar/ cane jaggery with palm jaggery will generate millions of
employments locally in every village- especially belonging to the Other Backward Class
people (who are traditionally Palm Sap collectors across the country) as palm sap is to be
collected from every tree, minimum processing (only filtering to remove impurities/
sediments and simple boiling till sap turn forming thickened, that all palm jaggery is ready
on cooling, palm jaggery is ready to pack) and packing, distribution) unlike.
Palm trees- Palmyra palm hardly requires water- can be grown naturally and can be grown
in water-stressed areas, India already has more than 100 million palm trees, and still more
can be raised, promoting palm jaggery solves issue of cheap liquor in villages and in towns
Palm jaggery making uses no chemicals, except minute lime during sap- neera - collection
to prevent fermentation of sap-neera) and contains more phytonutrients, whereas cane
sugar processing uses hard chemicals (sulfur dioxide, phosphoric acid, calcium hydroxide,
Polyarcylamides) and cane sugar has no nutritional value, full of empty carbohydrates.
The issue with wheat is it not only requires huge water but also contains gluten (sticky gum
compounds) that causes malabsorption / low abruption of other nutrients in the small
intestine causing various health issues.
GOI reducing cultivation of rice, wheat, and sugar and replacing them with millets, and
palm (date palm, palmyra palm, etc) in time bound target-oriented manner will save billions
of litres of water, enabling better health for people.
Since the health and wellbeing of people is the prime motto of “Green Credits” (Vehicular
carbon credits, Water crests etc ), and drinking water, water for cultivation is essential for
health, Green Credits aim to ensure a sufficient quantity of fresh water is available to
people, farming, GOI must ban manufacture/ production of cola drinks, which uses billions
of litres of fresh water, use sugar/corn syrup, and they also water-intensive plants and uses
huge water, and sugars in colas is 10% by weight i.e 330 ml of colas of any brand contain
32 to 36 mg of cane sugar, and diet / slim versions of cols contain more health hazards
causing artificial sweeteners, and both cane sugar and artificial sugars in colas are the root
cause of several health issues in children and youth, who are more consumers of the colas,
Colas also contain phosphoric acid (for tartness) carbon dioxide (which gives bubbles and
fizz), and caffeine (32 mg for 330 ml of cola) which are causing health issues in millions of

people, tooth enamel in children and youth get depleted in people who are consuming
colas, especially children and youth, and the bones become weak due to calcium depletion,
and depletion of magnesium all due phosphorus content in colas, children and youth are
addicted to colas due to high caffeine content in cola drinks, colas are the root cause of
several physical (obesity, pre-diabetics, vision issues, anaemia, intestinal issues, etc and
mental health (anxiety, depression, etc due to depletion of nutrients vitamin B1, low iron
absorption and many more health issues due to colas.
Since it is practically not possible to contain people, especially children and youth from
consuming and getting addicted to it due to caffeine in colas, Keeping in view of billions of
litres of fresh water used by cola manufacturing/ production (at the same time farmers are
deprived of fresh water), col manufactures earning huge profits and people are suffering
and becoming bankrupt due to out of pocket expenses to treat health issues that arise due
to consumption of colas, GOI must ban manufacture, sale and usage of cola drinks in India.
GOI allowing Colas to thrive in India and making farmers strive for water and causing health
disorders in millions of people is not Justifiable in any manner and the purpose of Green
Credits gets derailed, if colas manufacture, sale usage is not banned, then green credits are
only for commercial financial gains in one or other form, as all good things brought by green
credits will get nullified by colas manufacture, and cola consumption by people.
GOI must immediately ban colas in India (manufacture, import, sale, consumption).
These measures for obtaining clean air, availability of fresh water, on implementation will
reduce health issues, reduces hospitalization by at least 50%, reduces mortality, increases
man-hours of productive work output, help rise of per capita, rises of GDP, and help in
Nation Building
This “Green Credits” concept help improve the quality of life of people, and creatures due
to cleaner air, better health due to reduced risk of pollution, due to more water availability
for drinking, sanitisation, agriculture and industry, reduce hunger pangs due to more food
production due to water availability, more industrial output, the rise of per capita income
of people and National GDP. This will set an example for the world to follow.
All these measures of “Green Credits” (Vehicular carbon credits, Water credits as proposed
in my documents) are practical, pragmatic realistic positive measures, enable happening of
sustained and responsible living, and inclusive growth of all sections
Entire World countries will adopt “Green Credits” initiated by India just like “Yoga”
This will be a real One Earth One Family.
