Noise & Vibration

Exposure to noise and Vibration is
potentially physically harmful to the ear
and is a general nuisance.
Harmful noise can be long-term, such as
working with machinery for a long time, or
short term, such as using a pneumatic drill
for a short period.
Exposure to noise can cause annoyance
and irritation, can affect concentration and
efficiency, can prevent the ear from
registering other sounds, instructions and
warnings, and can cause fatigue and
accident proneness.
Short exposures to noise can result in temporary hearing loss, while prolonged exposure to excess
noise can cause damage to the inner ear and permanent loss of hearing.
During construction, the major sources of pollution by noise during construction are the following:
• Construction equipment during site preparation (possible excavation, rock breaking, backfilling
operations, piling).
• Activities at working areas, like warehouses, stockpiles, batching plant, pre-casting yard.
• Construction equipment and vehicles during construction of civil structures.
• Dry earthmoving equipment during reclamation operation.
• Workshop activities during repairs of equipment.
• Truck deliveries during all phases of construction.
Use of Hearing Protective Devices as Reusable Ear Plugs (plastic) which present the below
advantages:
➢ Cooler, more comfortable under hot Conditions.
➢ Can be reused if cleaned properly.
➢ Lightweight
