Background: The Philippine Coast Guard is mandated to enforce regulations that shall promote
safety of life and property at sea within its maritime jurisdiction. In the current setting, all
voyages arriving and departing from 114 Philippine ports across the country’s archipelago shall
first undergo proper registration and recording in the trip’s manifesto and other pertinent
required documents. Once the voyage has been completed, the recorded data are still withheld
by the PCG as records. These records however thousands of citizens and guests’ data, containing
personal and sensitive information. As guided by the Data Privacy Act of 2012, the seminar aims
to ensure that the PCG is following the required legal protocol of handling, safekeeping, and
disposing the said data to ensure the policy of the State of securing and protecting the
fundamental human right to privacy. The PCG is bound to protect all forms of information of its
stakeholders, including its personnel,
