11 Self-Learning Module on Situation that Demonstrates Freedom of Choice!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and


reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and


independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

In this lesson, the students are expected to:


a. To understand that man has a Freedom of Choice.
b. To learn how to exercise freedom in a responsible and beneficial
manner.
c. Discuss situation that demonstrate freedom of choice

PRETEST

Choose from the following statement which do you think is the best
and practical way of demonstrating your freedom.
Buying Cellphone
1. Buying expensive cellphone out of your budget
2. Using your old cellphone than buying a new one to save money.

Going to Party:
1. Ask parent’s concern before attending the party
2. As a Senior High School student you can attend party without parent’s
consent.
Group Activity:
1. Allow your group to finish the activity while you are attending other
business.
2. Cooperating to your classmate to accomplish group activity

FREEDOM OF THE HUMAN PERSONS

Situation that Demonstrate Freedom of Choice

In module 1 we discuss about the two elements that define Freedom.


Voluntariness and Responsibility. In this module we will present situation
that will demonstrate voluntariness of a person in his or her action out of
his or her own free will. This means that a person may decide or act or not
to act, and these decision are made out of his or her own free will. Voluntary
act are free acts which can be assigned a corresponding moral value.

“Actus non facit reum nisi mens sit rea, “ the act itself does not make a man
guilty unless his intention were so.”

“ Actus me invite factus non est meus actus, “ an act done by me against my
will is not my act.

Let’s figure out what is happening and what would be the best course of
action in these situations.

A grab driver is accidentally fell on the ground in his motor bicycle and
drops the load of the boxes to the ground from his motorcycle when he
suddenly loses his balance.
Imagine that you are one of the bystander who witness this, which among
the situations will be your most truthful reactions?

The situation above have three possible reactions:


You may choose not to help and just watch or ignore him to stand up or
while he picks up load of the boxes. You may also choose to help him get up
and pick up his boxes: or you may laugh at him and refuse to help.

Human Experience:

You are a student leader in the campus and very vocal and critical on
certain policies in school. The School administrators is planning this coming
school not to accept or recognize all existing political organization , for that
reason you planned to stage a demonstration.

Guide Questions: Explain your answer on a separate paper:


1. Will a certain demonstration solve an inner conflict or problem with
the school?
2. Are there other ways to let the school administrators know your
grievances?
