STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS RELATION TO PAVEMENT DESIGN AND ANALYSIS AASHTO TP 62 Standard Method of Test for Determining Dynamic Modulus of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) This test method covers procedures for preparing and testing hot mix asphalt (HMA) to determine the dynamic modulus and phase angle over a range of temperatures and loading frequencies. This standard is applicable to laboratory-prepared specimens of mixtures with nominal maximum size aggregate less than or equal to 37.5 mm (1.48 in.).. This standard may involve hazardous material, operations, and equipment. This standard does not purport to addressall of the safety concernsassociated with its use. Itis the responsibility of the user of this procedure to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. AASHTOT 242: Standard Method of Test for Frictional Properties of Paved Surfaces Using a Full Scale Tire This method covers the measurement of the frictional properties of paved surfaces with a specified fulkscale automotive tire. This method utilizes a measurement representing the steady-state friction force on alocked test wheelas it is dragged overa wetted-pavementsurfaceunder constant load and at a constant speed while its major plane is parallel to its direction of motion and perpendicularto the pavement. The values measured represent the frictional properties obtained with the equipment and procedures stated herein and do not necessarily agree or correlate directly with those obtained by other pavement friction measuring methods. The values are intended for use in comparing certain frictional properties of a pavement relative to those of other pavements or for evaluating changesin these frictional properties of a pavement with the passage of time. The values are insufficient to determine the distance required to stop a vehicle on either a wet or a dry pavement. They are also insufficient for determining the speed at which control of a vehicle would be lost, because peak and side-force friction are also required for these determinations. ASTM E670 - 09(2015) Standard Test Method for Testing Side Force Friction on Paved Surfaces Using the Mu-Meter This test method coversthe measurement of the side force friction of paved surfacesutilizing a device commonly called a Mu-Meter. This test method utilizes a measurement obtained by pulling the Mu-Meter, containing two freely rotating test wheels angled to the direction of motion, over a pavement surface at a constant speedwhile the test wheels are under a constant static load. This method provides data of the side force friction (and other data) along the whole length of the test surface being tested which is applied to a variety of computerized algorithms enabling the production of results including (but not limited to) rolling averages, numeric and graphical representations, friction mapping and reports formatted in the layout approved by a wide variety of national airport regulators. ASTM D3387-11 Standard Test Method for Compaction and Shear Properties of Bituminous Mixtures by Means of the U.S. Corps of Engineers Gyratory Testing Machine (GTM) This method employs a testing machine that generates a precisely controlled gyratory kneading process, whichis used to prepare and test specimens of bituminous paving mixtures. This method is intended for use in bituminous mixtures design and control testing as well as accelerated traffic simulation. The objective is to compact to the ultimate in place density under the anticipated vertical stress while monitoring the process in terms of unit mass, and shearing resistance including the plastic properties. Particular attention is given to the development of the plastic properties associated with the compaction phenomenon. The maximum permissible bitumen content is indicated directly by the first evidence of a progressive increase in shear strain (as indicated by a progressive increase in the gyratory angle) accompanied by a progressive reduction in shear strength (as indicated by a progressive reduction in roller pressure.) The procedures described here are for mix design and plant control as wellas accelerated traffic simulation. ASTMC1781/C1781M-15 Standard Test Method for Surface Infiltration Rate of Permeable Unit Pavement Systems This test method covers the determination of the field surface infiltration rate of in place permeable unit pavement systems surfaced with solid interlocking concrete paving units, concrete grid paving units, or clay paving brick. Tests performed at the same location across a span of years may be used to detect a reduction of infiltration rate of the permeable surface, thereby identifying the need for any remedial maintenance intended to increase the infiltration rates to predefined levels. The infiltration rate obtained by this method is valid only for the localized area of the pavement where the test is conducted. To determine the surface infiltration rate of the entire permeable pavement, multiple locations must be tested and the results averaged. ASTMC115-96a Standard Test Method for Fineness of Portland Cement by the Turbidimeter «Scope This test. method ~—_covers F1G2, Turbidimeter determination of the fineness of Portland | cement as represented by a calculated measure of specific surface, expressed as square centimetres of total surface area per gram, or square meters of total surface area per kilogram, of cement, using the Wagner turbidimeter. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Itis the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practicesand determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
