QKSAs required in Today’s Workplace

According to the research for job related to programming in Java, it can be concluded that the
technical skills are most valuable that soft skills. Soft skills are only considered if you have a
technical skill.

Most of the companies are looking for experienced programmer with at least three years of
experience and of course bachelor’s degree in computer science.

The knowledge required for this kind of jobs are purely technical related to coding and problem
solving. The applicant should have full-fledged knowledge on coding, debugging, and deploying
the software. Some of the latest and cutting-edge technologies are almost compulsory to learn
such as AWS, docker and Kubernetes.

The skills that the applicant needs to have are problem solving and critical thinking. Similarly,
skills to code are compulsory.

The attitude the applicant should bring in the workplace is positive, motivated and team
playing. Similarly, he/should be able to manage time efficiently, design and communicate
complex systems concepts with team members and most importantly be a team player.
Research compared to Conference Board of Canada
The Conference Board of Canada categorizes skills to be Fundamental, socio and emotional,
personal management and teamwork skills (Canada, 2022). For the software developers’ jobs,
it is accurate and necessary to have all the skills. However, technical skills still have more
weights that the social and emotional skills. Similarly, teamwork skills is necessary as outlined
by Conference board of Canada.

Skills to be considers as Leadership Skills

According to the research, I feel like leadership skills are acquired by being a team player.
However, in the field of technical and engineering jobs, it is necessary to have the technical
expertise itself before any other skills. Only then one can work in management and leadership
skills.

Skills Possessed VS Skills Needed to Acquire

According to research, I feel like I have accumulated technical expertise by working more than
three years as a java developer in various IT companies. But I still need to work on polishing my
technical knowledge. For example – from the report most of the job looks for technical
knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker, which I am yet to learn. Similarly, I also need to work on
my communication skills. Being a non-native speaker, I might always not be able to share
exactly my thoughts. I can also work on time management skills to be more organized.

Future Learning
From the research done in employment posting, I have learned that I need to focus on my
strong points i.e., programming with Java. But I can also acquire communication and time
management skills so that I stand out in job applications.

On the technical learning process, I can revise, learn new technologies that are being asked,
take references of YouTube tutorials etc.

Similarly, on the soft skill parts, I can practice English speaking so that I am able to share my
thoughts more fluently. Similarly , reading self-help books can also be efficient to develop
personality and understand team members.
