STEINEL) Description and Operating Jnstructions for the Horizontal Milling Machine SH4d Machine Serial No. LEG ILE Order No. BERNHARD STEINEL~ MACHINE TOOL FACTORY ‘SCH WENNINGEN/ NECKAR STEINEL This booklet is intended for use by the people who will operate and maintain the nachine. Careful study should be made of the instructions given here, the machine will then repay you by trouble free running and long life with consistently accurate results. Figures are not binding. tie reserve the right to change design, dimensions and weights. Installation The machine is despatched already assembled. Any damage to the machine, or loss should ve reported inmediately after arrival. The table handwheel should be put on in the correct position on the spindle and tightened. At the transport by means of a crane the machine should be hanged up. (Fig.1) The machine should ve-carefully levelled so that the table is horizontal in both rg directions and then grouted in. It is not usually necessary to bolt it to the floor. On the face of the colunn are four tapped holes (closed with grub screws). These are for mounting the Vertical W\"Liug attachment FVK 3 Dutting the machine into the operation fh The machine should be connected to a suitable 3 phase supply. (Pig.2) The machine is wired for Anschutabe a supply Cable aa foe ee after connecting the leads, the machine S—— should be switched on. The handle cn the changeover switch should be posed to the right position (Pig-3) STEINEL The milling spindle runs clockwise if the handle on the changeover switch is posed as shown. (Pig.4) . ring Spina Frasspindet oF Fa he direction of rotation can be changed with the changeover switch, With the on-off switch, the main motor and the coolent pump are switched. =< The end limit screws on the table must Seas not be removed. (Fig.5) End Limit Screws Fig. 5 Maintenance Proper care of the machine will enable its accuracy and efficiency to be maintained. The slides should always be kept clean. If play should develop, the taper gibs on table and saddle must be adjusted. The knee has an angle strip fitted with adjusting screws. Table, saddle and knee are provided with clamping levers or bolts, a safety device ensures that the table can be fed by power only when unclamped. ‘Also when the table is clemped it is impossible to engage the power feed, Positions of levers for selecting feeds and speeds will be seen on the plates fixed to the column of the machine, © the feed drive friction clutch is adjusted at the works but can be readjusted when necessary by Ty screwing down the locking nuts a and b. (Pie.6) STEINEL the following procedure should be adopted. Slacken off the locknuts (8), tighten locknuts (2) until the spindle play is 0,0006" (for speeds over 1000 r.p.m. corre~ spondingly more) tighten locknuts (8). Zo check bearing play, a dial indicator should be applied to the cylindrical portion of the spindle nose and the spindle then levered up to get the reading. When readjusting the radial play in the front spindle bearing Angeteen der Meduhr re opply the diol incicalor le 5 Is 197 | Fig.? Spindle with American 2 Slandard Tapers N30 Lubrication All lubrication points are fitted with nipples which should be fed with the oilgun supplied. Lubricate only with oil Lubricants end Lubrication instruction see Lubrication Chart. In the case of the milling spindle the oil must only be poured in up to the top screw hole marked "oil level". For the feed gear (remove belt guard) and reversing gear (at the table) the oil level can be seen through the sight glasses. After about 300 working hours the first filligg should be drai- ned, the gears flushed and refilled. This and all further fillings can be used for periods up to 3000 hours, ts 1e.
