BB113 GROUP ASSIGNMENT

Sept. – Dec. 2020

Submission Date: Week 10 ~ 13 November 2020 (Friday) before 5 pm.

Read all the instructions clearly and carefully.

1) This is a group assignment. Form a group that with exactly 5 or 6 members. Refer to the
excel file named BB113_GroupName_202009.xlsx to obtain your group number and
group members.

2) Your assignment’s report MUST be typed using MS Word with the following format:
• Font style: Times New Roman • Text alignment: Justified
• Font size: 12 points • Spacing: 1.5
• Page margin: Normal • Page Size: A4
• Insert Page Number except Cover page

3) Tables and charts must be performed using MS Excel and combine all the working sheet
into one Excel file.

4) You MUST copy the tables and charts into the assignment’s report in MS Word and save
as PDF. Submit both PDF assignment’s report (softcopy) and MS Excel (softcopy).

5) Please be noted that 50% will be deducted from the assignment’s marks if you only
submit the PDF file report. Zero (0) mark will be given for any group that commits
plagiarism for their assignment.

6) Group Leader (GL) are required to submit both PDF assignment’s report (softcopy) and
MS Excel (softcopy) to Microsoft Forms (the link can be accessed at the Group
Assignment Tasks Tab on CN).

7) Rename the file as BB113_Tutorial Slot_Group Number. Refer to the examples below:
a. PDF report: BB113_T1_Group 1.pdf
b. MS Excel: BB113_T1_Group 1.xlsx

8) The first sheet of MS Excel must contain the details of group members (Student ID and
Name). Second sheet onwards contain the solutions in which each question must be in
different sheet. Figure 1 below shows the example of your MS Excel illustrations.

9) The assignment MUST be submitted on time. Late submission is unacceptable, and
marks will be deducted as shown below:

Late within 1 day −20%


Late within 2 days −40%
Late within 3 days −60%
Late within 4 – 7 days Maximum 40%
Late after 7 days Zero mark will be awarded

An electronic survey form was distributed to students taking BB113 Statistics and Its
Applications course. In the survey form, students were asked to answer several questions
related to themselves. There were 207 students were participated in this survey and the data
are stored in file named BB113_Database_202009.xlsx.

From the data given. Answer all the questions. The details of the data are arranged in
columns as follows:
C1 – Gender
C2 – Height (in cm)
C3 – How many courses do you register in Sept.-Dec. 2020 Semester?
C4 – How do you rate your understanding on BB113 during lecture and tutorial?
(1=Very poor, 2=Poor, 3=Average, 4=Good, 5=Excellent)
C5 - What is your expected grade for BB113 course?

Questions
1. Obtain a sample of size 50 using simple random sampling method. Use the same 50
sample obtained to work on question 2 – 6.
a. Discuss the steps how you perform the sample selection in MS Excel. [3]
b. Create an Excel sheet to show your sample observations. [3]

2. For C1 variable,
a. Construct a frequency and percentage distribution table. [3]
b. Construct a pie chart. [3]
c. Roughly discuss your findings. [3]

3. For C2 variable,
a. Discuss how you determine the number of classes, class width and class
cutpoints using cutpoint grouping. [4]
b. Construct a distribution table of frequency, relative frequency, percentage
distribution and cumulative percentage distribution. [6]
c. Construct a relative frequency histogram. [3]
d. Construct a cumulative percentage polygon (ogive) graph. [3]
e. Obtain the descriptive statistics: mean, median, mode, minimum, maximum,
range, standard deviation and skewness. [4]
f. Based on part e, roughly discuss your findings. [8]

4. For C3 variable,
a. Construct frequency and relative frequency distribution table using single value
grouping. [3]
b. Construct a relative-frequency histogram. [3]
c. Roughly discuss your findings. [3]

a. Construct a percentage distribution. [2]
b. Construct a percentage pie chart. [3]

6. For C1 and C5 variable,


a. Tally the data into a contingency table where the rows represent C1 variables
and the columns represent C5 variables. [3]
b. Construct a percentage contingency table based on column total. [3]
c. Construct side by side bar chart. Roughly discuss your findings. [4]
