BREATHER VALVE (PRESSURE VACUUM RELIEF VALVE)

1. Breather Valves, also known as Pressure Vacuum Relief Valves, are sized as per
API Standard 2000 for meeting the venting requirements of individual tanks.
This depends on the tank size, product stored and its flash point, pumping in &
pumping out rates.

2. Breather Valves are used in atmospheric tanks, with design pressure not
exceeding 1 psig, for conservation.

3. It is not bubble tight like safety valves but is dead weight soft seated with low
leakage (S.S. seat rings with PTFE seats). PENTA-TECH has facilities to measure
leakage rates as per API 2521 & all PENTA-TECH valves meet its requirements.

4. The Overall Dimensions and M.O.C. shall be as per our drawing. Aluminium is
preferred to C.S. for petroleum applications since it is light, corrosion proof &
non-sparking.

5. The pressure & vacuum relief set points are to be indicated by the equipment
designer. For installation on rim vents of floating roof tanks, the set points for
pressure is 1/2 oz/sq. Inch (22mm w.c.) & for vacuum, it is 1/4 oz/sq. Inch (11mm
w.c.). For cone/dome roof tanks, the settings should not exceed 50% of the design
values to provide for 100% over pressure as per API Std. 2000.

6. Capacity Curves/Data can be provided based on theoretical calculations as per

API Std. 2000. PENTA-TECH can also assist in sizing & selection of relief
settings.
