ONTAP 9 Foundational Courses


Fundamentals courses provide foundation learning concepts that explain the features and functions
of ONTAP. These courses should be completed before attending intermediate-level courses.
ONTAP Cluster Fundamentals
Delivery: Web-Based Duration: 5 hours Link: STRSW-WBT-D8CFND
Description: This course enables you to explain the architecture and functionality of an ONTAP
cluster. Also, the course introduces basic administration, configuration, and management of an
ONTAP cluster.
Ꙭ Instructor’s Tip: This is the absolute best place to start learning ONTAP and should be
completed before attending the ONTAP Cluster Administration.

ONTAP NAS Fundamentals


Delivery: Web-Based Duration: 60 minutes Link: STRSW-WBT-NASFUND
Description: This course enables you to explain the architecture and functionality of NAS protocols.
Also, the course will introduce basic administration, configuration, and management of NAS
protocols.
Ꙭ Instructor’s Tip: NAS fundamentals covers general configuration for both NFS and SMB
environments. Complete this before either the ONTAP NFS Administration or ONTAP SMB
Administration courses.

ONTAP SAN Fundamentals


Delivery: Web-Based Duration: 60 minutes Link: STRSW-WBT-SANFUND
Description: This course enables you to explain the architecture and functionality of SAN protocols.
Also, the course will introduce basic administration, configuration, and management of SAN
protocols.
Ꙭ Instructor’s Tip: SAN fundamentals covers general configuration for iSCSI, FC, and FCoE
environments. Complete this before the ONTAP SAN Administration course.

ONTAP Data Protection Fundamentals


Delivery: Web-Based Duration: 60 minutes Link: STRSW-WBT-DPFUND
Description This course enables you to explain the architecture and functionality of the integrated
data protection features that use Snapshot copy technology. Also, the course will introduce basic
administration, configuration, and management of the integrated data protection features.
Ꙭ Instructor’s Tip: Data Protection fundamentals covers general configuration for Snapshot,
SnapMirror, SnapVault, and SyncMirror features. Complete this course before the ONTAP
Data Protection Administration course.

ONTAP Data Management Fundamentals
Delivery: Web-Based Duration: 2.5 hours Link: STRSW-WBT-ODMF
Description: This course describes the NetApp data management products and how they are used to
manage systems that run NetApp ONTAP 9 data management software. The course examines the
architecture and functionality of data management products, including the NetApp OnCommand
portfolio and NetApp SnapCenter software. The course also examines foundational data management
concepts and common tasks that are performed by using the various data management products. The
common tasks covered include provisioning, monitoring, and protecting data on storage systems that
run ONTAP software.
Ꙭ Instructor’s Tip: Data Management fundamentals takes the confusion out of the different
tools and software available to manage ONTAP systems. The course not only rounds out the
fundamentals, but also serves as an entry point into the courses for each of the products
covered.

ONTAP 9 Intermediate Courses


Administration-level courses provide information about how to manage ONTAP including hands-on
labs and demos. You should complete the foundational courses before attending any administration-
level courses. Likewise, the administration-level courses should be completed before attending
advanced-level courses.
ONTAP Cluster Administration
Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 3 days Link: STRSW-ILT-ONTAPADM
Description: This course uses lecture and hands-on exercises to teach basic administration of an
ONTAP cluster. You configure and maintain a cluster. You practice working with ONTAP features. You
use the CLI and OnCommand System Manager to manage storage and network resources.
Ꙭ Instructor’s Tip: A hands-on course where you have access to an ONTAP system to
configure. You should complete the ONTAP Cluster Fundamentals course before attending
this course.

ONTAP NFS Administration


Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 1 day Link: STRSW-ILT-NFSAD
Description: This course extends the NFS information that is found in the ONTAP Cluster
Administration course. This course reviews and explores in more detail the NFS protocol. The
exercises are accomplished using ONTAP 9 software.

configure. You should complete the ONTAP Cluster Fundamentals, ONTAP Cluster
Administration and ONTAP NAS Fundamentals courses before attending this course.

ONTAP SMB Administration

Description: This course extends the CIFS information that is found in the ONTAP Cluster
Administration course. This course reviews and explores in more detail the SMB protocol. The
exercises are accomplished using ONTAP 9 software.

configure. You should complete the ONTAP Cluster Fundamentals, ONTAP Cluster
Administration and ONTAP NAS Fundamentals courses before attending this course.

ONTAP SAN Administration (aka Data ONTAP SAN Implementation)


Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 3 days Link: STRSW-ILT-SANIMP
Description: This course extends the SAN information that is found in the ONTAP Cluster
Administration course. This course reviews and explores in more detail the iSCSI, FC, and FCoE
protocols. The exercises are accomplished using ONTAP 9 software.

configure. You should complete the ONTAP Cluster Fundamentals, ONTAP Cluster
Administration and ONTAP SAN Fundamentals courses before attending this course.

ONTAP Data Protection Administration


Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 2 days Link: STRSW-ILT-DATAPROT
Description: This course extends the integrated data protection features information that is found in
the ONTAP Cluster Administration course. This course reviews and explores in more detail the
SnapMirror, SnapVault, SVM DR, SyncMirror, and NDMP technologies. The exercises are
accomplished using ONTAP 9 software. The course also provides an overview of the MetroCluster
high-availability and disaster recovery software solution.

configure. You should complete the ONTAP Cluster Fundamentals, ONTAP Cluster

ONTAP Compliance Solutions Administration


Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 1 day Link: STRSW-ILT-OCSA
Description: This course describes the architecture and functionality of the integrated data protection
compliance features and benefits in ONTAP 9 data-management software, including SnapLock
software, key management features, and encryption technologies. The course also explains the
administration, configuration, and management of the integrated data protection compliance
features.

ONTAP 9 Advanced Courses
Advanced-level courses contain content that require an advance level of knowledge for a topic. These
courses should only be attended after completing all the foundational and administration courses.
ONTAP Performance Analysis
Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 3 days Link: STRSW-ILT-PERFCDOT (in development)
Description: This course provides you with the knowledge and skills that you need to collect and
analyze system performance data from NetApp storage systems that are running ONTAP 9. You learn
how to interpret data and how to identify and implement changes that improve system efficiency.
You also learn how to use system commands and features to monitor and enhance storage system
performance using a combination of hands-on labs, case-studies, and technical discussion.

ONTAP 9 Continuous Learning


These courses are available for a limited time to allow you to learn the latest features and
enhancements for each new version of ONTAP. The “delta” courses provide you an opportunity to get
the latest updates without having to attend all the fundamentals and administration courses for each
new version of ONTAP. Courses may contain demonstrations or hands-on exercises, depending on the
delivery format.
ONTAP Administration: What is New in ONTAP 9.1
Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 1 day Link: STRSW-ILT-ADMIN91
Description: In this course you will learn about the new features that are included in the ONTAP 9.1
Data Management Software release. You also configure many of these features with hands-on
exercises using a lab environment that will be provided to you. This course is meant to update those
that have taken the current Clustered Data ONTAP 8.3 administration courses and the ONTAP
Administration: What’s New in ONTAP 9 course.
Note: This course does not cover fundamental or basic administration topics. A working knowledge of
ONTAP 9 is required.
ONTAP Administration: What is New in ONTAP 9.2
Delivery: Web-Based Duration: 1 day Link: STRSW-ILT-ADMIN92
Description: In this course you will learn about the new features that are included in the ONTAP 9.2
Data Management Software release. The course also includes configuration demonstrations for the
new FabricPool feature. This course is meant to update those that have taken the current Clustered
Data ONTAP 8.3 administration courses and the ONTAP Administration: What’s New in ONTAP 9
course.
Note: This course does not cover fundamental or basic administration topics. A working knowledge of
ONTAP 9 is required.

ONTAP 9 Install and Deploy Courses
These courses cover the different types of ONTAP software deployments including FAS and AFF
controllers, MetroCluster configurations, and ONTAP Select.
NOTE: Some of the installation courses may not be available to all learners or regions.
ONTAP Cluster Installation Workshop
Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 2 days Link: STRSW-ILT-COIW
Description: This advanced installation course prepares you to deliver ONTAP system installation
services in a way that meets NetApp quality standards and uses NetApp best practices. With your
laptop and the appropriate tools, you practice all installation tasks and set up NetApp storage
controllers and shelves in a clustered configuration. You learn how to set up and test access to the
system and the AutoSupport connection, and you learn how to conduct a customer handoff briefing.
Ꙭ Instructor’s Tip: A hands-on course where you install a FAS or All Flash FAS cluster, cabling
and all, to hand off to the storage administrator.

ONTAP Select Installation and Deployment


Delivery: Web-Based Duration: 90 minutes Link: STRSW-WBT-SELECT
Description: In this course, you learn how to plan for and install an ONTAP Select cluster. You learn
the hardware specifications required for deploying ONTAP Select as well as how to prepare the
hardware and hypervisors for an optimal installation.

ONTAP MetroCluster Installation


Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 2 days Link: STRHW-ILT-MCCIIW
Description: MetroCluster is a unique solution that combines high availability and disaster recovery
into a single offering and span across multiple nodes in an ONTAP configuration. This is an advanced
course that focuses on installation, configuration and administration operations around MetroCluster
as available in ONTAP 9. In this course you will learn how to setup and cable a MetroCluster
configuration for high availability and also learn about tools and management options.

Administration of OnCommand Unified Manager and Integrated Solutions
Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 2 days Link: STRSW-ILT-CCWWFA
Description: Through brief lectures, exercises, and classroom discussion you discover how to deploy
and maintain an integrated OnCommand Unified Manager and pair it with OnCommand Workflow
Automation (WFA) data-management solution. You learn how the performance-management
features of Unified Manager provide a unified approach to storage management that reduces
complexity. You also learn to how to extend Unified Manager’s data protection capabilities with WFA.
This course can be delivered in a traditional classroom or a virtual classroom.

Creating and Customizing Workflows Using OnCommand Workflow Automation
Delivery: Instructor-led Duration: 2 days Link: STRSW-ILT-CCWWFA
Description: This course employs brief lectures, hands-on exercises, and other activities to teach the
functions of OnCommand Workflow Automation. In this course students discover how OnCommand
Workflow Automation eliminates error-prone manual processes for storage management in an
organization. It includes creating and customizing workflows to meet your organizational storage
requirements. You also learn how to create commands, finders, data sources, and functions.
