UNVELING OF THE OK SA DEPED x HLI

CONVERGENCE DIAGRAM
[Opening]
Today, we launch Healthy Learning Institutions or HLI in
the Department of Education. These further strengthen
all that we are already doing in the Department as part
of Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd or OK sa DepEd.

Like what we will see in the diagram, our learners
remain at the center of everything that we do.

As the Department of Health implements its health

promotion efforts in the country through the life stage
approach and the settings-based approach, DepEd
recognizes that our schools, under the K-12 curriculum,
are a strategic setting during which Filipinos spend two
crucial life stages: their childhood and their
adolescence.

Through the HLI, DepEd, together with the DOH and
other stakeholders, will ensure that our schools as a
setting for health promotion possess the six pillars of a
health-promoting school, namely, physical school
environment, social school environment, access to
health care, health skills and education, links with
community, and healthy school policy.

As you can see in the diagram, these pillars shall safely

surround our learners so to speak during their stay in
our schools.

Hence, our implementation of the six flagship programs
under the Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd shall be framed
through the lens of Healthy Learning Institutions. The
School-Based Feeding Program and Nutrition Support,
WASH in Schools, Adolescent Reproductive Health,
NDEP and Tobacco Control, School Mental Health, and
Medical, Dental, and Nursing Services shall be
implemented in line with the six pillars of the HLI.

As we do this, we align with and recognize our
contribution to the fulfilment of the priority areas under
the national Health Promotion Framework Strategy of
the DOH.

Ultimately, DepEd, as a learning institution, shall
endeavor to do all these as it desires to reach its
aspirations in its Basic Education Development Plan,
particularly the health indicators embedded through its
pillars, Access, Equity, Quality, and Wellbeing and
Resilience.

[Closing]
In school health, we always say that children need to be
healthy so that they can be educated. And they need to
be educated so that they will be healthy. With
strengthened OK sa DepEd through HLI, this can be
made possible.
