I think there are a few ways. I would also say that phthalates are a really common plasticizer,
but handbooks would be a great place to start.

I would first try to do H NMR with an internal standard and determine through integration. H
NMR should also allow you to indentify the plasticizer.

If you dont have an NMR you can try though Raman spectroscopy to indentify but it might be

Thanks for the A2A. The Wiki on PVC gives a basic outline for Polyvinyl Chloride but is a little
vague. Generally, there is Plain PVC, CPVC, UPVC, PVC-U, PVC-M, PVC-O, and Lead Reinforced
PVC; which is being phased out due to health concerns. PVC-O, -M, and -O deal with wall
thickness. There are also different Pipe Schedules of PVC Pipe; (40, 80, etc.)
