Expresiile “there is” și “there are” înseamnă “(acolo) este” și “(acolo) sunt”. Dacă în limba română,
putem începe o propoziție cu verbul “a fi”, în limba engleză nu este indicat. Exemple:

There is a doctor in the waiting room. = Este un medic în sala de așteptare.

There are some nurses in the emergency department (ED/ ER). = Sunt niște asistente la departamentul
primiri urgențe.
Is there any milk left in the fridge? = Mai este lapte în frigider?
Yes, there is./ No, there isn’t. = Da, este./ Nu, nu este.
Are there books on the table? = Sunt cărți pe masă?
Yes, there are./ No, there aren’t. = Da, sunt./ Nu, nu sunt.
There isn’t a doctor in the office. Nu este un doctor în birou.
There aren’t trees in the park. = Nu sunt copaci în parc.

Prepositions of place (Prepoziții de loc):

in = în
on = pe
under = sub
above = deasupra
behind = în spatele
next to = lângă
in front of = în fața

Exemples:
 The police station is behind the school. = Secția de poliție este în spatele școlii.
 The syringe is on the table. = Seringa este pe masă.
 The nurse is there, next to the doctor. = Asistenta e acolo, lângă doctor.
 The cats are under the tree. = Pisicile sunt sub copac.
 There’s a bee above your head! = Este o albină desupra capului tău!
 There are some children in front of the school. = Sunt niște copii în fața școlii.
