IV. PROCEDURES (ELICIT)

A. Reviewing previous lesson on presenting the new lesson

 Begin by showing a table showing Interphase.
 The learners need to put the correct answer in the corresponding box.

PHASE STAGE DESCRIPTION

G1
Interphase

G2

 Cell growth
 Preparation for Cell Division
 Replication of DNA

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (ENGAGE) (5 minutes)

Activity #1
 The teacher will show different pictures.
 The learners will describe the pictures.

C. Presenting example/examples instances of the new lesson (ENGAGE) (5 minutes)

Activity #2
 The teacher will give an activity to the learners. Class will be divided into groups.
 The learners will draw a model of mitotic cell with its corresponding stages/phases.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills (EXPLORE) (5 minutes)

Activity #3
 The teacher will show videos. After watching, the learners need to answer the corresponding Guide Questions
of the teacher.

E. Developing Mastery (EXPLAIN)

Activity #4

 The teacher will give an activity. Learners need to arrange the given sets of puzzle according to the topic.
 Each group will explain their connected puzzle pieces by using the corresponding Guide Questions of the
teacher.

F. Finding Practical application of concepts and skills in daily living (EXTEND)

 Understanding the importance of Mitosis phase among living things.
 Realizing that all cells in living organisms go through a cycle of growth, development and division.

G. Making Generalization and Abstractions (ELABORATE)

 How many daughter cells are there at the end of Mitosis?
 How many chromosomes are there in each daughter cell at the end of Mitosis?

H. Evaluating Learning (Evaluation)

1. A type of cell division that results in two daughter cells each having the same number and kind
chromosomes.
Occurs only in body cells.

a. Cytokinesis b. Cell synthesis

c. Interphase d. Mitosis

2. The final phase of cell division in which the chromatids or chromosomes move to opposite ends of the cell
and divides the cell into two new cells.
a. Metaphase
b. Telophase
c. Anaphase
d. Prophase

3. This phase happens when the centromere of each chromosome moves in the center of the cell.
a. Metephase b. Anaphase
c. Prophase d. Telophase

4. This happens when the cytoplasm of the cell splits into half.
a. Anaphase b. Metaphase

c. Cytokinesis d. Synthesis

5. Mitosis happens in what type of cells?

a. Body Cells b. Prokaryotes
c. Nerve Cells d. Germ Cells

6.How many chromosomes are there at the end of Mitosis?

a. 23 b. 12
c. 46 d. 92

7-10. Give the 4 stages of mitosis according to its sequence.

I. Additional activities for application or remediation (EXTEND)

 What are gametes?

 What are Haploid Cells?

ACTIVITY NO. 1

Objective:

After performing this activity, you should be able to:

1. Familiarize the changes happening in our body particularly; Growth, Development, Repair.

Materials Needed:
 Pictures on the Powerpoint presentation
Procedure:

1. The learners need to say their observation about the body parts shown in following pictures.
Guide Questions:
Q1. What do you see in the pictures?
Q2. Do you see any changes happen in the body/body parts shown in the pictures?

ACTIVITY NO. 2

Objectives:

After performing this activity, you should be able to:

1. Identify the different phases of Mitosis.

2. Describe the position of chromosomes/chromatids inside the cell.

Materials Needed:
 Bond paper
 Pentel pen Marker/s

Procedure:

1. Draw 4 same size circles.

2. On the first circle, draw 4 chromosomes (X) in the center.
3. On the second circle, draw 4 chromosomes (X) aligned vertically in the center.
4. On the third circle, draw 4 chromatids (/) on the left side and another 4 chromatids (\) on the right side. Draw the
chromatids vertically.
5. On the fourth and fifth circles, draw 2 chromatids (/).

Q1. Based on your drawing, do you see any changes happening in each circle?
