Sew Happy Sampler By Chris Malone

Make and hang a cheery wall quilt in your sewing room to lift your spirits and
brighten your work space. Little pockets are handy for stashing your supplies!

• 1⁄4 yard red-and-tan print for borders and
pocket lining
• 71⁄2" x 71⁄2" square and 2 strips 41⁄2" x 81⁄2" tan
with red print
• 7" x 7" tan solid square
• Assorted red, blue, gold, green, cream and
tan scraps
• Backing 15" x 29"
• Thin batting 15" x 29"
• 7 (3⁄4"–­1") red and tan buttons
• Embroidery hoop and needle
• Red 6-strand embroidery floss
• All-purpose threads to match fabrics
• 1 spool red hand-quilting thread
• 15⁄8" x 18" wooden ruler
• Spray varnish for ruler, if needed
• Freezer paper
• Air- or water-soluble marker
• No-fray product
• 2 small picture hangers
• Rotary-cutting tools
• Basic sewing supplies and tools

Instructions

Log Cabin Block


Step 1. From red scrap cut center square 11⁄2" x 11⁄2".
Cut 11⁄2" strips from six different tan scraps. Cut 11⁄2"
strips from six different colored scraps.
Step 2. Sew a tan strip to red center square. Trim even
with red square; press. Continue to add tan and col-
ored strips Log Cabin style as shown in Fig. 1. Trim
each piece even with square and press seam toward
center. Add 12 strips until block measures 71⁄2" x 71⁄2".

Appliquéd Heart Block
Step 1. Trace heart and words on tan solid fabric with Assembly
air- or water-soluble marker. Trace heart outline on Step 1. Sew bottom of Log Cabin block to top of
