Technical Specification

PX10

Application
The Alfa Laval PX10 Purifier is used for the purification of palm oil. The oil is fed from the oil tank to
the purifier where impurities and water are removed. After purification the oil passes to the vacuum
dryer, and is finally pumped to the main storage tank via an oil cooler.

Operating Principle
The PX10 high-speed centrifugal purifier is a solid-ejecting disc stack type centrifuge. The discharge
system utilises a sliding bowl bottom. The separation bowl is designed for partial discharge of
separated sludge thus the dryness of the sludge is maximised reducing the liquid volume disposal for
waste treatment. Solids discharges can be initiated automatically at regular intervals by means of
discharge programme equipment with closing the feed to the centrifuge. The light phase (oil) is
discharge under pressure by a paring disc pump. The heavy phase is discharged by gravity. The
inter-phase is adjusted with interchangeable regulating discs.

Wear Protection
The PX10 Plus is optimized for maximum wear protection in the palm oil application:
 All bowl parts in contact with oil are made of stainless steel.
 All frame parts in contact with oil (frame hood, frame ring, frame top part and outlet bend) are
made of stainless steel.
 The wear liners in wall pillars are to protect both the wall pillars in the bowl body and the sliding
bowl bottom. The wear liners are made of stainless steel.

Capacity and Process Performance

When installed and operated according to Alfa Laval instructions, the following performance could be
expected from an Alfa Laval PX 10 Purifier.

Capacity
 14,000 -16,000 litres/hour

Feed Conditions
 Moisture (max): 1% on sample
 Dirt (max): 0.1% on sample
 Temperature (min): 90 Deg. C.

Oil ex-Purifier
 Moisture (max): 0.5% on sample
 Dirt (max): 0.08% on sample

Requirements to achieve stated performance data

 Operating water pressure should be between 2 to 5 bar and is achieved by the water pump.
Altering the operating water pressure will change the discharge volume; 2 bar is used for small
discharge and 5 bar is used for big discharge.
 Cold water is used as make up water at the flowrate of 10 L/min, whereas hot water is used as
displacement water at the flowrate of 23 L/min.
