WALK YOUR WAY THROUGH LIFE

A New Year is a new dawn and a happy beginning indeed, so why not make most of it by walking
our way through.

This feature is neither a puffery nor a ballyhoo to avid members of the WALKERS CLUB or for the
rambunctious ones in your family or the typical fitness freaks, health mandarins and flaneurs around
you. But to all of us- just go ahead continue walking and do WALK your way for a happy and healthy
way of life this new year. Come let us make a beginning.

Walking though has innumerable benefits and can give you the perfect health balance in your daily
life- so just WAKE and WALK with the birds in your neighborhood as early mornings are often the
best time to catch up on your ME – TIME. It offers you plentitude of (S)ILENCE, (A)FFIRMATION,
(V)ISUALISATION and(E)XERCISE which you ought to SAVE for spending each day of your life – maybe
practice it more as a THANKSGIVING in one way or many.

 A few arcane footnotes for the hoi polloi on WALKING–

 Women generally average ten miles a day, outdistancing men who average only
seven miles a day.
 If you average 10000 steps in a day, it adds up to 115000 miles in your life-time
enough to go around our planet more than four times.
 Heart disease, various types of cancer, diabetes, arthritis, obesity, back pain and
osteoporosis are illnesses confirmed to have been cured besides greatly reducing
the risk of falls as well as fractures and injuries.
 Long distance walking became a popular pastime in the 19 th century and is known as
pedestrianism.
 Feet are said to be the mirror of an individual’s health. Sherlock Holmes was a
known master in discerning limps/ gender/ foot disorders from footprints (the
science of criminology).
 Some famous and avid walkers – Charles Darwin, Henry Thoreau, Jacques Rosseau,
Albert Einstein, Ludwig Van Beethovan, Socrates and Aristotle and many more
(golfers -to pardon me though you remain the exclusive club).

Some invaluable health and life mantras the members of the Walkers Club ought to often practice-

 Keep your chin up not only while you walk but in life too, literally and figuratively.
 Slouch no more, maintain your balance and posture always.
 Never overstep your bounds- take it easy and in your natural stride.
 Always try and remain focused- existential and situational awareness to be in the
PRESENT.

Walking in solitude often provides a great chance to explore, tranquil our minds, mull over ideas
and conceive new concepts. The very act is a counter to the relentless pace of modern life in a
society where we are overstimulated, overloaded and bombarded with information, requests and
notifications. It’s not just for fitness or weight loss. Walking has cognitive benefits too, which is why
so many of history’s most influential thinkers were habitual walkers. If you’re looking to improve
your focus and creativity at work, try taking a short break every hour and go for a quick stroll instead
of scrolling the internet and the smartphones .
In life remember it is never the last step rather it is always the first step that matters. Hence,
always learn to “WALK YOUR WAY THROUGH LIFE AND NEVER AWAY FROM IT”.
